The Effects of Perceived Netflix Personalized Recommendation Service on Satisfying User Expectation (지각된 넷플릭스 개인화 추천 서비스가 이용자 기대충족에 미치는 영향)

  • The OTT (Over The Top) platform promotes itself as a distinctive competitive advantage in that it allows users to stay on the platform longer and visit more often through a Personalized Recommendation Service. In this study, the characteristics of the Personalized Recommendation Service are divided into three categories: recommendation accuracy, recommendation diversity, and recommendation novelty. Then proposed a research model which affects the usefulness of users to recognize recommendation services by each characteristics and leads to satisfaction of expectations. The result of conducting an online survey of 300 people in their 20s and 30s who subscribe Netflix shows that the perceived usefulness increased when the accuracy, variety, and novelty of Netflix's Recommendation Service were high. It was also confirmed that high perceived usefulness leads to satisfaction of expectations before and after Netflix use. The derived research results can confirm the importance of evaluating the personalized recommendation service in terms of user experience and provide implications for ways to improve the quality of recommendation services.

  • The representative companies mentioned in the recommendation service in the domestic OTT(Over-the-top media service) market are YouTube and Netflix. YouTube, through various methods, started personalized recommendations in earnest by introducing an algorithm to machine learning that records and uses users' viewing time from 2016. Netflix categorizes users by collecting information such as the user's selected video, viewing time zone, and video viewing device, and groups people with similar viewing patterns into the same group. It records and uses the information collected from the user and the tag information attached to the video. In this paper, we propose a method to improve video media recommendation by automatically generating metadata of video media that was written by hand.

  • This study analyzes the success factors of OTT original content through big data, and intends to suggest scenarios, casting, fun, and moving elements when producing the next work. In addition, I would like to offer suggestions for the success of 'Squid Game Season 2'. The success factor of 'Squid Game' through big data is first, it is a simple psychological experimental game. Second, it is a retro strategy. Third, modern visual beauty and color. Fourth, it is simple aesthetics. Fifth, it is the platform of OTT Netflix. Sixth, Netflix's video recommendation algorithm. Seventh, it induced Binge-Watch. Lastly, it can be said that the consensus was high as it was related to the time to think about 'death' and 'money' in a pandemic situation. The suggestions for 'Squid Game Season 2' are as follows. First, it is a fusion of famous traditional games of each country. Second, it is an AI-based planned MD product production and sales strategy. Third, it is casting based on artificial intelligence big data. Fourth, secondary copyright and copyright sales strategy. The limitations of this study were analyzed only through external data. Data inside the Netflix platform was not utilized. In this study, if AI big data is used not only in the OTT field but also in entertainment and film companies, it will be possible to discover better business models and generate stable profits.

  • 본고에서는 스마트 TV의 대표적인 서비스인 OTT(Over-The-Top)서비스의 전송 방법 중 최근에 가장 주목을 받고 있는 HTTP에 기초한 적응적 스트리밍 기술을 알아본다. 먼저, 최근 MPEG등 각 표준단체에서 진행되고 있는 HTTP 스트리밍 기술의 표준화 범위 및 진행 상황에 대해서 살펴보고, 표준화 범위 중 핵심이 되는 메타데이타 파일 구조 및 청크 단위의 전송 포맷 및 기존 시스템 포맷의 확장 사항 등에 대해서 설명한다. 마지막으로 MPEG DASH(Dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP)의 basic on-demand profile에 기초한 구현 내용 및 결과를 소개한다.

  • 최근 스마트폰을 비롯한 다양한 스마트 기기가 확산되면서 미디어 환경 및 이용행태에 변화가 일어나고 있다. 스마트미디어화에 따라 이용자 선택형 서비스가 강화되면서, 인터넷 접속이 가능한 다양한 스마트 기기 내에서의 OTT(Over-The-Top) 서비스 이용이 증가할 것으로 보인다. 지상파, 유료방송 등 전통적인 방송시청 플랫폼에서뿐만 아니라 다수의 플랫폼과 기기를 통한 방송시청이 증가하고 있는 만큼, 이에 대한 이용행태 변화를 분석하는 것이 중요하다. 본고에서는 국내 스마트미디어 이용자의 TV를 비롯한 다양한 스마트 기기 이용행태 조사결과를 분석하여 국내 미디어 시장에 대한 시사점을 도출하고자 한다.

  • This study proposes a strategy for developing Korean entertainment video service by studying the current status of user's experience of OTT(Over the Top, online video streaming service), mainly Netflix and Watcha Play. Firstly, as case study research, I investigated the features of domestic video streaming services and that of foreign services and K-content service needs. Secondly, I interviewed eight Netflix and Watcha Play users to understand the user experience and the demand for K-content video streaming service. As a result, I was able to derive two points about the strategy. First, isolated channel strategy. Second, content diversification and personalization strategy. This study is meaningful that it presented a strategy for the direction of the Korean entertainment industry. I hope that the follow-up study will help improve the Korean entertainment industry and help develop Korea's entertainment strategy.

A Study on the Brand Image and Purchase Satisfaction of Multiplex Cinemas according to the Types of Value Perceptions of Offline Movie Viewers (오프라인 영화 관람객의 가치 인식 유형에 따른 멀티플렉스 영화관의 브랜드이미지, 구매 만족도에 관한 연구)

  • The spread of Over-The-Top (OTT) service, which represents Netflix, and the social distancing caused by COVID-19, acted as an overall bad news for domestic multiplex movie theaters. In addition to this, the phenomenon of digital shifting was added, and the need for domestic offline movie theaters to seek a new market for growth emerged. This study focused on the concept of consumer value perception amid this problem consciousness, and attempted to investigate the relationship between the brand image of multiplex movie theaters and purchase satisfaction according to the type of consumer value perception. After data was sampled through a questionnaire survey to a total of 350 subjects, the results of empirical analysis according to the study model are as follows. Among the types of value perception of offline movie viewers, practicality had the strongest influence on brand image construction, and self-faithfulness had the strongest influence on purchase satisfaction of offline movie watching. In addition, the brand image of offline movie theaters had a positive(+) effect on the purchase satisfaction of moviegoers. Based on this, this study suggested a new survival strategy in the new normal era of offline Multiplex Cinemas.

  • We studied the current state-of-the-art of Smart TV, the challenges and the drawbacks. Mainly we discussed the lack of end-to-end solution. We then illustrated the differences between Smart TV and IPTV from network service provider point of view. Unlike IPTV, viewer of Smart TV's over-the-top (OTT) services could be global, such as foreign nationals in a country or viewers having special viewing preferences. Those viewers are sparsely distributed. The existing TV service deployment models over Internet are not suitable for such viewers as they are based on content popularity, hence we propose a community based service deployment methodology with proactive content caching on rendezvous points (RPs). In our proposal, RPs are intermediate nodes responsible for caching routing and decision making. The viewer's community formation is based on geographical locations and similarity of their interests. The idea of using context information to do proactive caching is itself not new, but we combined this with "in network caching" mechanism of content centric network (CCN) architecture. We gauge the performance improvement achieved by a community model. The result shows that when the total numbers of requests are same; our model can have significantly better performance, especially for sparsely distributed communities.

  • Adaptive bitrate streaming is a crucial element in the implementation of high-quality streaming of media content over the Internet. Dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (MPEG-DASH) has lately emerged as the de facto solution for over-the-top (OTT) video streaming services. In this paper, we perform macro-level analysis on a real-world MPEG-DASH-based Internet live broadcasting service to gain insight into its behavior throughout the end-to-end service-provision chain, from broadcasters to viewers. Based on this analysis, we propose methods to improve the quality-of-experience (QoE) of MPEG-DASH-based services, particularly with regard to reducing broadcasting delays between recording and viewing of videos, as well as synchronizing client terminals.

트래픽 규격화를 통한 효율적 망관리성 제고

  • 망관리성이란 다수의 이용자가 네트워크를 효율적으로 이용할 수 있도록 하기 위해 통신사업자가 네트워크를 합리적으로 관리할 수 있어야 한다는 것을 의미한다. 본고에서는 최근 증가하고 있는 대용량 비디오 트래픽에 대한 최적의 이용환경을 제공하고 망관리성을 제고하는 방안으로서 비디오 트래픽 대역폭 최적화 동향을 살펴보고 향후 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 비디오 트래픽 대역폭 최적화란 네트워크(3G/ LTE 등), 단말(휴대폰/태블릿 등), 콘텐츠(스포츠/드라마/영화 등) 유형별로 이용자의 동영상 품질 만족도와 네트워크 품질을 동시에 만족하는 최적 대역폭(비트레이트)의 비디오 트래픽을 전송하는 것이다. 비디오 트래픽 최적화에 있어서 최적대역폭 선정 기준의 정립은 다음과 같은 두 가지의 연구 결과를 기반으로 진행된다. 첫째, 일반적으로 동영상 대역폭이 증가할수록 영상 품질도 정비례로 증가할 것이라는 예상과는 달리, 무선 단말 이용자는 영상화질의 일정 임계치 이상에서 품질의 차이를 거의 느낄 수 없다. 둘째, 다량의 비디오 트래픽이 네트워크 총 대역폭의 일정 비율 이상을 차지하게 될 경우 네트워크 품질저하 요소가 발생하여 네트워크 품질이 급격히 악화된다. 비디오 트래픽 최적화는 이러한 요소를 고려하여 이용자의 영상 품질 만족도를 최대화하면서 네트워크 품질 유지비용을 최소화하고 트래픽 전송품질을 확보할 수 있는 최적대역폭을 설정하는 것이다. 비디오 트래픽 최적화의 목적은 트래픽을 통제하거나 차단하는 것이 아니며 최적대역폭에 대한 가이드라인을 제시하여 콘텐츠사업자(이하 CP)와 Over-The-Top 사업자(이하 OTT)가 자발적으로 준수하도록 유도하고자 하는 것이다. 비디오 트래픽 최적화는 ICT생태계 모든 이해관계자에게 편익을 제고할 것으로 기대된다. 첫째, 이용자에 대해서는 통신품질 안정화로 전체적인 이용자 만족도를 향상시킨다. 둘째, CP/OTT는 멀티미디어 서비스의 대중화와 서버 및 전송장비 비용을 절감할 수 있다. 마지막으로 통신사는 네트워크 품질저하 및 비용 급증을 방지할 수 있다.
