  • Offshore software development (OSD) is international business collaboration. OSD projects often encounter intercultural and inter-linguistic problems disturbing the projects. Business documents are formal media of information and knowledge for OSD. While OSD documents should convey common understanding of the OSD products, the documents may contain unsuitable expressions which draw misunderstanding of the required products and offensive issues for the collaboration. Intercultural and inter-linguistic differences cause mistakes and inappropriate expressions. OSD from Japan to China is the largest in Asia, and Japanese language is often used in OSD documents. Large similarity is found between Japanese and Chinese in their languages, while many differences exist even for the same word. The similarity induces to write unsuitable expressions for both sides of OSD. To introduce risks for OSD projects caused by unsuitable or inappropriate expressions in OSD documents, we propose to apply a proofreading system of Japanese documents for OSD. Japanese consignor uses the system to refine OSD documents written by Japanese engineers for Chinese readers, and Chinese consignee uses it to refine Japanese documents written by Chinese Engineers as derivatives of OSD projects. Effectiveness of applying the proofreading system is discussed for actual projects.

  • In this paper a new OSD (On-Screen Display) development system for digital devices is presented. The proposed system is an example of the ubiquitous systems because it can be used to co-develop an OSD tn any time at any place if the web can be accessed. In UI, OSD is an important pan of digital devices. Especially, OSD implementations for multiple languages are essential to export digital devices and make them user-friendly. The proposed system consists of four components: font editor, menu editor. R/C simulator, and screen editor. It provides all the functions to develop an OSD and the result can be downloaded to a digital device. The proposed system was used to develop an OSD for 31 countries and the lead time of development was reduced from 52.7 days to 20 days.

  • A new intelligent home appliance is being appeared with overlap of telecommunication and home appliance technology. In this kind of product the user interface especially on screen display(OSD) and remote controller, holds a key post and is critical factor of performance and usability. In spite of this importance, the user interface is designed by circurt engineer from a viewpoint of engineering on the basis of his experience and unsophisticated insight. Therefore this study clarifies a user- centered design process of OSD from the designer's viewpoint on the basis of development case and gives a guideline for each stage in consideration of characteristic features that the user interface design of OSD is highly enfluenced by hardware specification and restricted by remote controller as input device.

  • For increasing needs about web-based XML applications, there has been a lot of studies about WIDL, CDF and OSD that are related to XML. Especially, the OSD format describes software packages and their inter-dependencies that is widely used in a CDF file, IT uses different forms for representing relationships among software pakages, because there has not been proposed a method of object modeling about it until now. In this paper, we propose a modeling method for the OSD and CDF documents using UML relationships. It is a part of the project to merge XML, applications and convert thd OCD and CDF documents into an IML class diagram to generate OODB sheme. We can esily not only visualuze implementation and dependency relationships among software packages but also understand and transform logical structure of XML documents using modeling functions.

  • Since various applications is converged in digital televisions, playing game on DTV will be available in the immediate future. Game programming of DTV is more difficult than that of PC in a viewpoint of game development. Since TV use very simple remote controller as user interface, mapping type, choice type, and one-button type are used among mobile game user interfaces. In addition, we suggest to use text class, numeral class, bitmap class, and shape class of DTV OSD middleware which is proven software, instead of developing new DTV-oriented game engine. The proposed interfaces can be applied in various game situations and allow intuitive and fast operations. By using OSD middleware, game actions can be subdivided into state structures, OSD objects can be used as game objects, and events and actions of remote controller keys are easily defined.

  • Purpose: To investigate the prevalence of occult spinal dysraphism (OSD) and subsequent neurosurgery in pediatric patients with isolated or combined dorsal midline cutaneous stigmata with or without other congenital malformations. Methods: We carried out a retrospective review of patients who underwent sonography or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for OSD because of suspicion of dorsal midline cutaneous stigmata (presumed to be a marker for OSD) between January 2012 and June 2017. Information about patient characteristics, physical examination findings, spinal ultrasound and MRI results, neurosurgical notes, and accompanying congenital anomalies was collected. Results: Totally 250 patients (249 ultrasound and one MRI screening) were enrolled for analysis. Eleven patients underwent secondary MRI examinations. The prevalence of OSD confirmed by an MRI was 2.4% (6 patients including one MRI screening). Five patients (2%) had tethered cord and underwent prophylactic neurosurgery, 3 of whom had a sacrococcygeal dimple and a fibrofatty mass. Prevalence of tethered cord increased as markers associated with a sacrococcygeal dimple increased (0.5% of the isolated marker group, 8.1% of the 2-marker group, and 50% of the 3-marker group). Incidence of OSD with surgical detethering in 17 other congenital anomaly patients was 11.8%, which was higher than the 1.3% in 233 patients without other congenital anomalies. Conclusion: Our results suggest that the presence of dorsal midline cutaneous stigmata, particularly fibrofatty masses, along with a sacrococcygeal dimple is associated with OSD or cord tethering requiring surgery. OSD should be suspected in patients with concurrent occurrence of other congenital anomalies.

  • As the microelectronics technology is developed, new types of smart intelligent products are being emerged. OSD user interface is one of the critical factor in this kind of product, especially brown goods and information devices, as it is responsible for imput and output function. OSD is being treated as accompaniment to hardware in spite of its importance, and therefore is developed from only simple and separate usability testing based on performance measurement. This study propose a usability evaluation method of OSD based on subjective preference to support existing usability testing. The purpose of this analysis is to make clear what is important factor and how its preference level is from the user's viewpoint. The various attributes of OSD are clarified from user's questionaire and interview, and orthogonal array is generated with specified factor levels. The prototypes are generated from rapid prototyping tool and tested in natural simulation environment. The preference data which collected in this usability testing is analyzed with conjoint analysis module. This usability evaluation is not the final stage in user interface design process but the early planned and circulated stage.
