Spatial activities of Liriomyza trifolii (Burgess) were investigated weekly using yellow sticky trap which were placed at three different height and monitored during four time periods. Yellow sticky trap placed at plant height caught significantly more L. trifolii (Burgess) than did traps placed at 30 and 60cm above plant height. Diel activities of L. trifolii (Burgess) were monitored with yellow sticky traps at 1- and 2-h intervals during three time periods. Leafminer flight activity in May, July and October peaked from 1400 to 1800 hours, 0800 hours and from 1200 to 1400 hours, respectively. 2nd peak of flight activity only occurred in May. Attraction of L. trifolii (Burgess) for yellow sticky traps was affected by temperature as well as solar intensity. Male of L. trifolii (Burgess) appeared more responsive to yellow sticky traps than female regardless of trap height or time of day.
Here we evaluated the effect of using water retentive pavement or WRP made from fly ash as material for main street in a real city block. We coupled computational fluid dynamics and pavement transport (CFD-PT) model to examine energy balance in the building canopies and ground surface. Two cases of 24 h unsteady analysis were simulated: case 1 where asphalt was used as the pavement material of all ground surfaces and case 2 where WRP was used as main street material. We aim to (1) predict diurnal variation in air temperature, wind speed, ground surface temperature and water content; and (2) compare ground surface energy fluxes. Using the coupled CFD-PT model it was proven that WRP as pavement material for main street can cause a decrease in ground surface temperature. The most significant decrease occurred at 1200 JST when solar radiation was most intense, surface temperature decreased by $13.8^{\circ}C$. This surface temperature decrease also led to cooling of air temperature at 1.5 m above street surface. During this time, air temperature in case 2 decreased by $0.28^{\circ}C$. As the radiation weakens from 1600 JST to 2000 JST, evaporative cooling had also been minimal. Shadow effect, higher albedo and lower thermal conductivity of WRP also contributed to surface temperature decrease. The cooling of ground surface eventually led to air temperature decrease. The degree of air temperature decrease was proportional to the surface temperature decrease. In terms of energy balance, WRP caused a maximum increase in latent heat flux by up to $255W/m^2$ and a decrease in sensible heat flux by up to $465W/m^2$.
Various attempts have been made to explain the: pronounced seasonal and universal time (UT) variations of geomagnetic indices. As one of such attempts, we analyze the hourly-averaged auroral electroject indices obtained during the past 20 years. The AU and AL indices maximize during summer and equinoctial months, respectively. By normalizing the contribution of the solar conductivity enhancement to the AU index, or to the eastward electrojet, it is found that the AU also follows the same semiannual variation pattern of the AL index, suggesting that the electric field is the main modulator of the semiannual magnetic variation. The fact that the variation pattern of the yearly-mean AU index follows the mirror image of the AL index provides another indication that the electric field is the main modulator of magnetic disturbance. The pronounced UT variations of the auroral electrojet indices are also noted. To determine the magnetic activity dependence, the probability of recording a given activity level of AU and AL during each UT is examined. The UT variation of the AL index, thus obtained, shows a maximum at around 1200-1800 UT and a minimum around 0000-0800 UT particularly during winter. It is closely associated with the rotation of the geomagnetic pole around the rotational axis, which results in the change of the solar-originated ionospheric conductivity distribution over the polar region. On the other hand the UT variation is prominent during disturbed periods, indicating that the latitudinal mismatch between the AE stations and the auroral electrojet belt is responsible for it. Although not as prominent as the AL index, the probability distribution of the AU also shows two UT peaks. We confirm that the Dst index shows more prominent seasonal variation than the AE indices. However, the UT variation of the Dst index is only noticeable during the main phase of a magnetic storm. It is a combined result of the uneven distribution of the Dst stations and frequent developments of the partial ring current and substorm wedge current preferentially during the main phase.

Genetic transformation carried out to induce the pathogenicity mutants from the two isolates, Elsinoe fawcettii R-34 and MUD of citrus scab fungus to hygromycin resistant by transferring plasmides (pUCATPH) that contain hygB gene. We produced protoplast for transformation by using of combinations of available enzymes including ${\beta}$-D-glucanase, ${\beta}$ -glucuronidase, Iyticase and driselase. The protoplasts regenerated at 64 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml of hygromycin B but not 128 $\mu\textrm{g}$ in sensitivity test to identify the concentration of useful marker for the selection of transformants. Approximately 1200 and 67 hygromycin resistant isolates from strain R-34 and strain MUD, respectively, were isolated on PDA added with 200 $\mu\textrm{g}$ /ml of hygromycun B. Fifty seven and 4 of hygromycin resistant isolates from strain R-34 and MUD, respectively, did not produce necrotic lesions on the leaf in detached-leaf assay. Finally, 9 isolates were isolated from strain R-34, and these Isolates produced non or very few symptoms on seedlings of citrus in greenhouse pathogenicity test. And it's very interesting that some isolates produced melanose-like symptom on very young leaves which it was not typical symptom and somtimes produced on only expanded leaf.
Objectives : To find antipruritic herbal medicines, we screened the water extracts of four herbal medicines which have been frequently prescribed to treat dermatologic diseases in oriental medicine. Methods : Water extracts of Bupleuri Radix, Scutellariae Radix, Cimicifugae Rhizoma and Puerariae Radix were administered at a dose of 300 mg/kg to male ICR mice. 1 hour later, serotonin hydrochloride dissolved in physiologic saline at a concentration of 100 nmol / 50${\mu}{\ell}$ was administered intradermally to the nape of the neck at a dose of 50${\mu}{\ell}$. Then the scratching behavior was observed. Dry skin pruritus was induced with cutaneous application of acetone / ether (1:1) mixture and water (AEW) to the rostral back of male ICR mice, twice a day for 5 days. 14 hours after the last application, the most effective material in the first experiment was administered perorally at doses of 75, 150, 300, 600 and 1200 mg/kg. 1 hour later, the scratching behavior was observed. Results : Water extracts of Puerariae Radix significantly inhibited the serotonin-induced scratching behavior and the mean of scratching bouts was reduced by half compared with the control group. Bupleuri Radix group also showed a 29% decrease in the mean of scratching bouts, but there was no statistical significance. Water extracts of Puerariae Radix also inhibited the AEW-induced scratching behavior, in a dose-dependent manner. The dose of 150 mg/kg showed the highest and statistically significant antipruritic effect. Conclusions : These results suggest that Puerariae Radix and its constituents have antipruritic effect, and are new candidates as antipruritic agents.
This paper is concerned with the design or an LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality) -based H$\infty$ controller for a line of sight (LOS) stabilization system and with its robustness performance. The linearization of the system is necessary to analyze various nonlinear characteristics, but the linearization entails modeling uncertainties which reduce its performance. In addition, the stability of the LOS can be adversely affected by angular velocity disturbances while the vehicle is moving. As the vehicle accelerates, all the factors that are Ignored and simplified for the linearization tend to Inhibit the performance of the system. The robustness in the face of these uncertainties needs to be assured. This paper employs H$\infty$ control theory to address these problems and the LMI method to provide a suitable controller with minimal constraints for the system. Even though the system matrix does not have a full rank, the proposed method makes it possible to design a H$\infty$ controller and to deal with R and S matrices for reducing the system order. It can be also shown that the proposed robust controller has a better disturbance attenuation and tracking performance. The LMI method is also used to enhance the applicability of the proposed reduced-order H$\infty$ controller for the system given. The LMI-based H$\infty$ controller has superior disturbance attenuation and reference input tracking performance, compared with that of the conventional controller under real disturbances.
The random insertion of useful gene in genome has been a common method to produce transgenic animals. This method is inefficient for induction of high levels gene expression in transgenic animals. To improve this limit, we tried to develop the system which target the gene at the specific genomic region. Thus, in our experiment, the vector system to target the human thrombopoietin (TPO) gene was developed. Targeting vector including TPO, neo and DT genes was transfrcted into bovine embryonic fibroblasts (bEF) or bovine ear skin fibroblasts (bESF). First of all, we determined concentration of the geneticin (G418) for selection of transfected cell lines. Our results showed that 1200 and 900 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml of G418 were the most proper for selection of transfscted bEF and bESF cells. In this study, lipofectamine was used as a transfection reagent. Thus, the proper ratio of DNA:lipofectamine for transfection was also required to elevate targeting efficiency in primary mammalian cells. Our result indicates that the most proper ratios of DNA:lipofectamine were 4:2 and 1:2 in bEF and bESF cells. According to the optimized these conditions, single colonies were picked following transfection and were analyzed by PCR. More than 90% of the single colonies have TPO gene. However, there were no colonies with targeted TPO at the specific genomic region. Therefore, further experiments to select the specifically targeted colonies and to find more efficient methods such as reducing selection time and shortening a size of TPO gene are required.

There are many factors such as airtighteness and high density of merchandises or passengers that contaminate indoor air in underground commercial floor. So it is very important to know air quality and quantity of contamination in underground market increasing in number lately. It was from these viewpoints that gaseous pollutants, dusts and mutagenicity of organic compounds extracted from dusts in an underground market were investigatd. Organic ompounds (tar) were extracted by Soxhlet extractor with benzene as a solvent. Mutagenicities of these extracts were evaluated by the preincubation method using Salmonella typhimurium TA 100 and TA 98 strains with and without S9mix. The results obtained were as follows: It seemed to be under the influence of outdoor air that the concentrations of $CO, CO_2, NO, NO_2$ and dusts were higher in winter than summer. The concentration of $CO_2$ was higher in indoor than outdoor, but the concentration of NOx was similar in both sampling areas. Metal contents in dusts attached to the ventilation ducts were as follows showing in order of high concentration : Fe (9000-22000ppm), Zn(1200-2300ppm) and Pb (280-590ppm). The contents of tar were 6-33% of dusts, and higher than those from dusts collected by high volume air sampler. The extracts from dusts attached to the inlet duct exhibited lower mutagenicity than those from dusts attached to the outlet duct. This finding seemed to suggest that mutagenic substances were in creasing in underground. There was no seasonal difference of mutagenicity toward TA 98. Toward TA 100 in the presence of S9mix, the mutagenicity was about 3 fold higher in winter than summer. The mutagenicities of tar extracted from dusts collected by high volume air sampler were different from those attached to the ventilation ducts. The former showed 2-3 fold higher mutagenicity than the latter toward TA 100. However no difference showed between the former and the latter toward TA 98 in the absence of S9mix, but the former was 4-5 fold higher than the latter in the presence of S9mix.
Background: The aim of this study was to assess cancer awareness among medical students in Saudi Arabia toward tobacco and alcohol use as risk factors. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey from October to December 2014, covering 1200 medical students, was performed. Results: Of the total, 975 (81.25%) responded. The male to female ratio was 1.00:7.125. 96/975 (9.8%) had smoked tobacco in their lifetime, and 51/975 (5.23%) were alcoholic beverage consumers. On asking them whether tobacco smoking and alcohol consumption can cause cancer, only 4/975 (0.4%) and 14/975 (1.43%) answered no for smoking and alcohol, respectively. Conclusions: The prevalence of smoking and alcohol use is very low among medical students, which might be due to high female contribution besides social stigma. The prevalence of second-hand smoke (SHS) was found to be very high in Hail region.
The separation performances for thirty different dimensions of a low-pressure hydrocyclone (LPH) were tested in order to obtain an optimum dimension scale for fecal solid removal from an aquaculture system. The geometric variables were considered on two inlet diameters (Di: 30 and 50 mm), five overflow diameters (Do: 30, 50, 60, 70 and 100 mm), and three cylinder lengths (Lc: 250, 345 and 442 mm), while the cylinder diameter (Dc) of 335 mm, underflow diameter (Du) of 50 mm and cone angle (${\theta}$) of $68^{\circ}$ were kept constant. A small size for carp feces was regarded as the target for the removal of solids. Spherical polystyrene particles (1.1-1.3 mm dia., ${\rho}_s=1.05g/cm^3$), which demonstrate a similar settling velocity and specific gravity to the carp feces, were used as feed. The separation performance was tested in the range of 330 to 1200 ml/s of the inflow rate. Experimental results using ANCOVA and the Tukey test (${\alpha}=0.05$) demonstrated that the separation performances of LPH were significantly affected (P<0.05) by fi, Di and Do. In contrast, there was no significant Lc effect (P>0.05) on the separation performances. The maximum separation performance was detected at dimension combinations of 30 mm of inflow diameter (Di), 50, 60 and 70 mm of overflow diameter (Do), 345 mm of cylinder length (Lc). The dimension proportions were 0.09, 1.03, 0.15-0.21 and 0.15 (or Di/Dc, Lc/Dc, Do/Dc and Du/Dc, respectively.
