Comparison of Capacitor Voltage Balancing Methods for 1GW MMC-HVDC Based on Real-Time Digital Simulator and Physical Control Systems

  • Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC)-based HVDC power transmission using a real-time simulator is one of the key technologies in power electronics research. This paper introduces the design methodology of a physical MMC-HVDC control system based on a Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), which has the advantage of high-speed parallel operation, and validates the accuracy of MMC-HVDC control when operated with a Real-Time Digital Simulator (RTDS). Finally, this paper compares and analyzes the characteristics of capacitor voltage balancing methods such as Nearest Level Control (NLC), NLC with a reduced switching frequency, and tolerance band modulation implemented on physical control system.

  • Timing simulators are widely used nowadays for analyzing large-scale MOS digital circuits, which, however, have several limitations such as nonconvergence and/or in accuracy for circuits containing tightly coupled feedback elements or loops. This paper describes a new timing simulator which aims at solving these problems. The algorithm employed is based on the wave-form relaxation method, but exploits the signal flow along the feedback loops. Each of feedback loops is treated as one circuit block and then local iterations are performed to enhance the timing simulation. With these techniques, out simulator can analyze the MOS digital circuits with up to 5-20 times of the magnitude speed improvemnets as compared to SPICE2, while maintaining the accuracy.

  • Web caching server is one of the important components of any web site, as it makes the access of users to web content much faster while balancing the network and server load. There are many caching approaches proposed in order to solve this problem. Classically, we know several caching algorithms like FIFO, LRU, LRU-min and etc. Most of them have their advantages and disadvantages based on specific context. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the new concept of caching objects along with their related content and test the performance of the proposed caching method using CPN Tools simulator program. It is generally known that the use of Colored Petri Nets(CPNs) for modeling the simulation of new idea is one of the popular methods of system evaluation throughout software development projects. Moreover it could be very handy in describing the overall logic of the system. The CPN Tools is one of the most robust simulator programs which supports all necessary tools and functions to build and run the simulation model for CPN. Therefore in this paper, we will use CPN Tools software in order to build a simulator for our innovative caching approach named as web caching with related content. Then we will analyze the results derived from the simulation of our model and will make corresponding conclusions.

무게-가변형 드론을 위한 동역학 기반 시뮬레이터 개발 (Development of Simulator for Weight-Variable Type Drone Base on Kinetics)

  • Regarding previously-developed drone simulators, it was easy to check their flight stability or controlling functions based on the condition that their weight was fixed from the design. However, the drone is largely classified into two types that is the one with the fixed weight whose purpose is recording video with camera and racing and another is whole weight-variable during flight with loading the articles for delivery and spraying pesticide though the weight of airframe is fixed. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the structure of drone and its flight principle, suggest dynamics-model-based simulator that is capable of simulating weight-variable drone and develop the simulator that can be used for designing main control board, motor and transmission along the application of weight-variable drone. Weight-variable simulator was developed by using various calculation to apply flying method of drone to the simulator. First, ground coordinate system and airframe-fixing coordinate system were established and switching matrix of those two coordinates were made. Then, dynamics model of drone was established using the law of Newton and moment balance principle. Dynamics model was established in Simulink platform and simulation experiment was carried out by changing the weight of drone. In order to evaluate the validity of developed weight-variable simulator, it was compared to the results of clean flight public simulator against existing weight-fixed drone. Lastly, simulation test was performed with the developed weight-variable simulation by changing the weight of drone. It was found out that dynamics model controlled various flying positions of drone well from simulation and the possibility of securing the optimum condition of weight-variable drone that has flying stability and easiness of controlling.

임베디드 코어 설계시 효율적인 설계 공간 탐색을 위한 컴파일드 코드 방식 시뮬레이터 생성 시스템 구축 (Construction of a Compiled-code Simulator Generation System for Efficient Design Exploration in Embedded Core Design)

  • 본 논문은 어플리케이션에 최적화된 임베디드 시스템 설계에 있어 효율적인 설계 공간을 탐색할 수 있도록 머신 기술 언어를 기반으로 한 컴파일드 코드 방식 시뮬레이터 생성 시스템을 제안한다. 제안된 시스템 event-driven 시뮬레이션의 융통성을 유지하면서 많은 시뮬레이션 시간을 소요하는 인스트럭션 펫치와 디코딩 과정을 정적으로 결정하여 빠른 수행시간을 갖는 컴파일드 코드 방식 시뮬레이터를 생성한다. 생성된 시뮬레이터는 임베디드 코어의 성능 측정을 위한 사이클 수준과 인스트럭션 수준의 시뮬레이션을 가진다. 구축된 컴파일드 코드 방식 시뮬레이터 생성기의 효율성을 확인하기 위해 JPEG 인코더 어플리케이션에 대한 아키텍처 탐색을 수행하였다. 제안된 시스템은 MIPS R3000 프로세서의 초기 임베디드 코어로 시작하여 어플리케이션에 최적화된 임베디드 코어를 얻어내었다. 이 과정에서 많은 시뮬레이션 시간이 요구되었다. 사이클 수준 컴파일드 코드 빙식 시뮬레이터는 event-driven 시뮬레이션의 정확성을 가지며 평균 21.7%의 향상된 시뮬레이션의 수행 속도를 보인다.

  • 音聲과 데이터가 集積된 패킷 通信網의 性能을 豫測하고 시스템 파라메터를 最適化하기 위한 시뮬레이터의 개발에 관하여 記述하였다. 具現된 시뮬레이터는 CCITT의 勸告事項에 따라 運用되는 데이터 터미널이나 host는 물론 패킷 音聲터미널도 연결가능한 音聲 및 데이터集積通信網의 性能을 여러 상황에서 豫測할 수 있다. 시뮬레이션 技法으로는 지금까지 알려진 세가지 discrete event 시뮬레이션 技法 중 process interaction 方法이 사용되었는데 이 方法을 사용하면 실제 시스템과 가장 비슷한 시뮬레이터를 具現할 수 있다. 시뮬레이터는 약 4,000line의 GPSS 시뮬레이션 언어와 PL/I으로 具現되었다. 시뮬레이터의 컴퓨터 run time을 줄이기 위하여 GPSS의 LINK block을 사용함으로써 條件的 event의 數를 줄이는 方法을 사용하였다. 구현된 시뮬레이터를 사용하여 7-node 通信網의 性能을 豫測하였다. 또 개발된 시뮬레이터의 妥當性을 檢證하기 위하여 간단한 音聲과 데이터 multiplexer를 시뮬레이션 모델로 구성한 뒤 그 시뮬레이션 결과를 解釋的 방법에 依한 결과와 比較하였다.

Development of a CAN-based Real-time Simulator for Car Body Control

  • This paper presents a developing procedure of the CAN-based real-time simulator for car body control, aiming at replacing the actual W/H (Wiring Harness) and J/B(Junction Box) couple eventually. The CAN protocol, as one kind of field-bus communication, defines the lowest 2 layers of the ISO/OSI standard, namely, the physical layer(PL) and the data link layer(DLL), for which the CSMA/NBA protocol is generally adopted. For CPU, two PIC18Fxx8x's are used because of their built-in integration of CAN controller, large internal FLASH memory (48K or 64K), and their costs. To control J/B's and actuators, 2 controller boards are separately implemented, between which CAN lines communicate through CAN transceivers MCP255. A power motor for washing windshield, 1 door lock motor, and 6 blink lamps are chosen for actuators of the simulator for the first stage. For the software architecture, a polling method is used for the fast global response time despite its slow individual response time. To improve the individual response time and to escape from some eventual trapped-function loops, High/Low ports of the CPU are simply used, which increases the stability of the actuator modules. The experimental test shows generally satisfactory results in normal transmitting / receiving function and message trace function. This simulator based on CAN shows a promising usefulness of lighter, more reliable and intelligent distributed body control approach than the conventional W/H and J/B couple. Another advantage of this approach lies in the distributed control itself, which gives better performance in hard real-time computing than centralized one, and in the ability of integrating different modules through CAN.

제강.연주 공장 설계와 운영을 위한 시뮬레이터 (A Simulator for the Design and Operation of the Steel Mill)

  • 치열한 경쟁과 원자재 가격 급등은 시행착오를 최소화 하면서 제철소를 최적으로 설계하여 운영할 것을 한층 더 강력하게 요구하고 있다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션은 이 요구에 부합되는 방법론을 제공할 수 있다. 본 논문의 목적은 제강 연주 공장의 설계와 운영을 지원하기 위한 시뮬레이터를 제안하는 것이다. 본 연구에서 제안하는 시뮬레이터는 유지보수와 확장에 용이하도록 널리 알려진 Arena로 개발되었으며 사용의 편의성을 위하여 엑셀 기반으로 입출력 인터페이스를 설계하였다. 또한 운반 대차와 천정 크레인으로 구성되는 복잡한 운반 모듈을 포함하여 모델의 정확도를 높였다. 시뮬레이터는 생산량 분석과 물류 분석을 통하여 제강 연주 공장 설계안의 적정성을 평가하는데 유용하게 사용될 수 있다. 그리고 다양한 상황별로 최적의 제품 조합을 도출하는데 적용될 수 있으며, 공정별 설비별로 작업을 배정하는 조업 운영 패턴을 평가하고 정확도를 향상시키는 도구로써 활용이 가능하다.

  • With aggravation of environmental contamination and energy resource exhaustion, Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) that can be economically operated with low fuel consumption are receiving greater attention. For performance improvement of such HEV, the development of efficient transmission can be seen as one of core technologies such as performance of components and driving strategy. Dual clutch transmission (DCT) is actively studied as a transmission type for HEV due to its advantages of having excellent power transmission efficiency based on manual transmission characteristic, resolving the problem of power interruption, and realizing driving convenience of automatic transmission (AT). In this paper, one diesel HEV equipped with 6-Speed DCT, modelled using MATLAB/Simulink, and a performance simulator developed for this vehicle are introduced. Driving simulation with driving cycles such as FTP75 and NYCC was performed using the developed performance simulator, and the simulated results regarding state of charge and fuel economy, when AT and DCT are applied to this diesel hybrid vehicle respectively, are compared. This performance simulator can be utilized to develop a control algorithm for improving the fuel economy of HEV with DCT.

객체지향모델를 이용한 경량전철 시스템의 성능 시뮬레이션 (Multi-discipline simulation of light rail transit system using object oriented method)

  • Most rail system related simulations currently used are designed to simulate only one discipline system. This obviously assunes the other discipline system are running regularly not being affected by the system being simulated. In this paper a multi discipline simulator is proposed and its design concept is presented.A multi discipline simulator is the simultor in which major subsystems with different technical discipline are simulated simultaneously. The advantage of the simulator is in that it makes it possible to analyze the systems behavior while other discipline system vary. With this we can identify the possible to analyze the systems ehavior find their solutions. A proto type simulator has bee developed using object oriented programming. Object concept was judged best suitable to model the various multi-discipline self-controlling railway subsystems. It was applied to the target system, which is under development by the Korea Railroad Research institute. The test results show it is very useful in design verification. It could also be a good tool in research and development work to make to improe the system.
