  • Traffic signal is one of the major factors that affect the amount of vehicle emissions on urban highway. The amount of vehicle emissions in urban area is highly affected by the vehicle's cruising speeds heavily influenced by the traffic signal lighting conditions. It was attempted in this study to trace the changing patterns of the vehicle emissions by collecting the emission data from a set of simulation studies and by categorizing vehicle cruising conditions into four different groups: idling, acceleration, deceleration, and running at a constant speed. Authors propose a simple emission model prepared based on Kinematic theory. The validation test results showed that the amount of the emission estimated by the proposed model was relatively satisfactory compared to the one of the existing model employing the average speed data only as the determinant.

  • This study examined the effectiveness of maternity nursing simulations using a high-fidelity simulator for undergraduate nursing students. One-group pretest-posttest design was used. The simulation-based education program consisted of three sessions, including the clinical scenarios about prenatal, childbearing and postpartum care. The program provided for 3 weeks in November 2014. Data was collected before and after the simulation education using self-reported questionnaires, which included simulation effectiveness, problem solving ability, communication skills and self-confidence in maternity nursing. The data of 83 participants were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 20.0 program. After simulation education, the overall score of the simulation effectiveness was 17.4 out of 26.0. Communication skill (t=4.58, p=<.001) and self-confidence in maternity nursing (t=9.70, p=<.001) increased significantly in the posttest. On the other hand, there was no significant change in the problem solving ability. The simulation effectiveness correlated significantly with the problem solving ability (r=.494, p<.001), communication skill (r=.361, p<.001), and self-confidence in maternity nursing (r=.497, p<.001) after simulation-based education. These findings suggest that the high-fidelity simulation in maternity nursing education could be used not only to enhance the nursing competency, but also to deal with the limitations of the clinical practicum in the current situation.

  • A subway system is one of the major transportation modes at a metropolitan area. When it meets the other lines, the metro station, so-called transferring station, is usually threatened by severe pedestrian congestion and safety issue of transit users including the transportation vulnerable. Although transportation planners forecast travel demand at the beginning, it is not easy to predict pedestrian flows precisely for a long term if land use plans have dramatically changed. Due to expensive costs, structural extension of metro stations is limited. Therefore, it requires efficient and technical improvements as meeting the demand of pedestrian and physical characteristics. In this study, the core mechanism of pedestrian movement-based simulation model was introduced and evacuation scenarios were analyzed with the developed model. As a result, the multiple optimal routes for unexpected events at the solid space of the multiple stories are easily searched through the simulator and in the case of Sadang Station, travel time can be reduced by 60% when the evacuation information and intuitive design are provided.

  • In this paper, we study a simulation model for cooperative MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) channels and present a cooperative one-ring channel model which is extended from the geometrical one-ring and two-ring scattering models. Assuming that the source, the destination and the relay are surrounded by an infinite number of scatters, we derive a reference model for the cooperative one-ring channel and propose a simulation model based on the reference model provided in the paper. Then we show how modeling parameters of the simulation model are determined to match the correlation functions for the respective models. With numerical investigation, we also show that the correlation functions for the reference and the simulation are well matched.

  • It is essential to comprehend coupled hydro-mechanical behavior to utilize subsurface for the recent demand for underground space usage. In this study, we developed a new simulator for numerical simulation as a tool for researching to consider the various domestic field and subsurface conditions. To develop the new module, we combined OpenGeoSys, one of the scientific software package that handles fluid mechanics (H), thermodynamics (T), and rock and soil mechanics (M) in the subsurface with FLAC3D, one of the commercial software for geotechnical engineering problems reinforced. In this simulator development, we design OpenGeoSys as a master and FLAC3D as a slave via a file-based sequential coupling. We have chosen Terzaghi's consolidation problem related to single-phase fluid flow at a saturated condition as a benchmark model to verify the proposed module. The comparative results between the analytical solution and numerical analysis showed a good agreement.

  • This paper describes a theoretical and exprimental investigation of the pressure - time histories of some basic internal combustion engine exhaust systems. The program package is utilized the method of characteristics to solve the general equations of one - dimensional unsteady gas flow. This analysis is then combined with boundary models, based on quasi - steady flow approach, to give a complete treatment of the flow behavior in the exhaust system. Using a rotary valve exhaust simulator, experimental pressure - time histories were obtained. The predictions are com¬pared with measured results and show a high degree of correlation in amplitude and phasing.

  • The above-Knee Prosthesis has been used by the handicapped person and become a important part of their life. But uniform above-knee prosthesis only increases inconvenience And so the tool that can estimate and help to design of suitable prosthesis for user need to be developed. The simulator developed in this research is composed of two part. One is hardware that can realize various walking motions. The other is software that can display and analyze the results of walking mot ion. Three motors constitute hardware of Simulator. Two motors are used to realize heap motion that need two degree of freedom and the rest one used to realize swing motion. Software of Simulator display results of three motor trajectories and walking mot ion of hardware using computer graphic. • This thesis proposes a new social network simulator, which can be used for the social network analysis (SNA). It is composed of three modules; initialization, network evolution, and output generation. For the network evolution module, we suggest a modified JGN (MJGN) based on JGN, the network evolution model developed by Jin, Girvan, and Newman. Arena, one of the most popular simulation tools, was used to model the agent based social network simulator. Lastly, some test results were presented to show the value of the proposed simulator when one performs SNA at the longitudinal point of view.

  • This paper presents a retargetable compiled assembly simulation technique for fast ASIP(application specific instruction processor) simulation. Development of ASIP which satisfies design requirements in various fields of applications such as telecommunication, wireless network, etc. needs formal design methodology and high-performance relevant software environments such as compiler and simulator In this paper, we employ the architecture description language(ADL) named ${HiXR}^2$ to automatically synthesize an instruction-level compiled assembly simulator. A compiled simulation has benefit of time efficiency to interpretive one because it performs instruction fetching and decoding at compile time. Especially, in case of assembly simulation, instruction decoding is usually a time-consuming job(string operation), so the compiled simulation of assembly simulation is more efficient than that of binary simulation. Performance improvement of the compiled assembly simulation based on ${HiXR}^2$ is exemplified with an ARM9 architecture and a CalmRISC32 architecture. As a result, the compiled simulation is about 150 times faster than interpretive one.

  • Recently, various network protocols have been developed to keep step with the rapid growth of Internet users. For the education of students in the computer networks classes, there have been many attempts to allow students experiment routers setting, operations and management of networks by themselves, in addition to the classroom lectures based on textbooks. One of the attempts is to install expensive real router experiment sets in laboratories for students, and one another is using router and network simulators for virtual experiments. This paper presents the design and implementation of NetSim, a scalable, component-based simulator environment for the network experimentation. NetSim expands the existing component-based JavaSim simulation tool for the education purpose, and it allows the design and experiment of various networks and protocols. For the evaluation of NetSim, it is shown that the network design and RIP-based router setting process is possible in NetSim.
