  • High quality indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films were grown by pulse laser deposition (PLD) on flexible polyethersulphone (PES) substrates. The electrical, optical, and surface morphological properties of these films were examined as a function of substrate temperature and oxygen pressure. ITO thin films, deposited by PLD on a PES substrate at room temperature and an oxygen pressure of 15 mTorr, have a low electrical resistivity of $2.9{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}cm$ and a high optical transmittance of 84 % in the visible range. They were used as the anode in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). The maximum electro luminescence (EL) and current density at 100 $cd/m^2$ were 2500 $cd/m^{2}$ and 2 $mA/m^{2}$, respectively, and the external quantum efficiency of the OLEDs was found to be 2.0 %.

  • In this study, we investigated about the effect of hole transport layer materials(${\alpha}$-NPD, TPD) depending on the electrical properties of organic light emitting diode. In deposition method, we used thermal evaporation and it was a method for performing thin film by attaching vaporizing a molecule to substrate in a high thermal and vaccum. We analyzed luminance, current density, external quantum efficiency and current efficiency in 40 [nm] as optimization thickness of ${\alpha}$-NPD and TPD. In result of experiment, maximum luminance of TPD had 1.1 times higher than ${\alpha}$-NPD, but ${\alpha}$-NPD had luminance, external quantum efficiency, and current efficiency higher than TPD in low operating voltage. Actually, ${\alpha}$-NPD had efficiency higher than TPD in low operating voltage.

  • Plasma polymerized para-xylene (PPpX) thin films deposited by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) were used to passivate the organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). For OLEDs, indium tin oxide (ITO), N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,1'-diphenyl-4,4'-diamine (TPD), tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum $(Alq_{3})$ and aluminum (Al) were used as the anode, the hole transport layer (HTL), the emitting layer (EML) and the cathode, respectively. The OLED device with the PPpX passivation film (passivated device) showed similar electrical and optical characteristics to those of the OLED device without the PPpX passivation film (control device), indicating that the PECVD process did not degrade the performance of the OLEDs notably. The lifetime of the passivated device was two times longer than that of the control device. Passivation of OLEDs with PPpX films also suppressed the growth of dark spots. The density and size of dark spots of the passivated device were much smaller than those of the control device.

  • Amorphous IZO films were deposited on PET substrate by DC magnetron sputtering without substrate heating. In order to investigate effect of reactive gas addition on film properties, 0.2-0.4% of $H_2$ or $O_2$ gas was introduced during the deposition. Deposited IZO films were evaluated with mechanical property, electrical property, and water permeability. In the case of $H_2$ gas addition, mechanical property showed clear degradation compared to $O_2$ gas. In the case of $O_2$ gas, water permeability of the IZO film was increased compared to $H_2$ gas which could be attributed to the low adhesion of the film caused by bombardment of high energy negative oxygen ion. As a result, it is confirmed that water permeability of the film could be strongly affected by adhesion of the film.

  • The red emitting OLEDs using $Alq_3$:Rubrene-GDI4234 phosphors have been fabricated and characterized . In the device fabrication, 2- TNATA [4,4',4' - tris (2- naphthylphenyl - phenylamino ) - tripheny lamine] as the hole injection material and NPB [N,N'-bis (1-naphthyl)-N,N'-diphenyl-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine] as the hole transport material were deposited on the ITO(indium tin oxide)/glass substrate by vacuum evaporation. And then, red color emissive layer was deposited using $Alq_3$ as the host material and Rubrene(5,6,11,12-tetraphenylnaphthacene)-GDI4234 as the dopants. finally, small molecule OLEDs with structure of ITO/2-TNATA/NPB/$Alq_3$:Rubrene-GDI4234/$Alq_3$/LiF/Al were obtained by in-situ deposition of $Alq_3$, LiF and Al as the electron transport material, electron injection material and cathode, respectively. Red OLEDs fabricated in our experiments showed the color coordinate of CIE(0.65, 0.35) and the maximum power efficiency of 2.1 lm/W at 7 V with the peak emission wavelength of 632 nm.

  • lTO(Indium-Tin-Oxide) was used as anode material for OLED. Characteristics of ITO have great effect on efficiency of OLEDS(Organic light emitting diodes). ITO surface was treated by Nd:YAG laser in order to improve its chemical properties, wettability, adhesive property and to remove the surface contaminants while maintaining its original function. In this study, main purpose was to improve the efficiency of OLEDs by the ITO surface treatment: ITO surface was treated using a Nd:YAG(${\lambda}=266nm$, pulse) with a fixed power of 0.06[w] and various stage scanning velocities. Surface morphology of the ITO was investigated by AFM. Test OLEDs with surface treated ITO were fabricated by deposition of TPD (HTL), Ald3 (ETL/TML) and Al (cathode) thin films. Device performance of the OLEDs such as V-I-L was investigated using Source Measurement Unit (SMU: Keithly. Model 2400) and Luminance Measurement (TOPCON. BM-8).

  • Recent technical advances in OLEDs (organic light emitting devices) requires more and more the improvement in low operation voltage, long lifetime, and high luminance efficiency. Inverted top emission OLEDs (ITOLED) appeared to overcome these problems. This evolved to operate better luminance efficiency from conventional OLEDs. First, it has large open area so to be brighter than conventional OLEDs. Also easy integration is possible with Si-based driving circuits for active matrix OLED. But, a proper buffer layer for carrier injection is needed in order to get a good performance. The buffer layer protects underlying organic materials against destructive particles during the electrode deposition and improves their charge transport efficiency by reducing the charge injection barrier. Hexaazatriphenylene-hexacarbonitrile (HAT-CN), a discoid organic molecule, has been used successfully in tandem OLEDs due to its high workfunction more than 6.1 eV. And it has the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) level near to Fermi level. So it plays like a strong electron acceptor. In this experiment, we measured energy level alignment and hole current density on inverted OLED structures for hole injection. The normal film structure of Al/NPB/ITO showed bad characteristics while the HAT-CN insertion between Al and NPB greatly improved hole current density. The behavior can be explained by charge generation at the HAT-CN/NPB interface and gap state formation at Al/HAT-CN interface, respectively. This result indicates that a proper organic buffer layer can be successfully utilized to enhance hole injection efficiency even with low work function Al anode.

  • With the growing field and growing interest in transparent organic light-emitting diodes (TOLED) in the industry, various attempts are being made to improve the transmittance and performance of TOLED. TOLEDs are expected to be used in next-generation displays such as mixture reality (MR) displays, displayable windows, televisions, etc. This study presents a mesh TOLED with better transmittance and luminescence characteristics than existing TOLEDs through an in-situ vacuum deposition method that does not require additional processes such as photolithography and etching. In this study the mesh TOLED's cathode consists of Mg: Ag 1:9 electrode. Mesh patterns are interconnected with a 6 nm layer of interlayer. We approached transmittance improvement up to 30% at 555 nm at the cathode electrode with similar current injection character, also we improved lumination characteristics up to 23% at 7 V driving condition.
