Structural Investigation of Infrared Transmitting $PbO-Bi_2O_3-Ga_2O_3$ Glasses by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (X-선 광전자 분광법(XPS)을 이용한 $PbO-Bi_2O_3-Ga_2O_3$계 적외선 투과 유리의 구조해석)

  • X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) has been empolyed to investigate the structure of PbO-Bi2O3-Ga2O3 glasses. XPS OIS spectra recorded from binary PbO-Ga2O3 glasses clearly showed the presence of two peacks due to bridging and non-bridging oxygens, respectively. Gaussin best-fit deconvolution of the OIS peaks suggested there are substaintial amount of non-bridging oxygens in the structure. Therefore, in addition to the glassforming and charge compensating roles of PbO as suggested from the previous works, role of PbO as network modifiers needs to be considered. Addition of Bi2O3 to binary glasses resulted in the rapid decrease in the amount of non-bridging oxygens as well as in values of FWHM (Full Width at the Half Maximum intensity). It is believed that Bi2O3 form distorted BiO6 octahedra and therefore, work as intermediates. Infrared spectra also suggested that Ga2O3 behave as network-formers in the form of GaO4- tetrahedra.

Study on Dielectric Characteristics of Pb($Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}$)$O_3$-$PbTiO_3$-$PbZrO_3$Ceramics) (Pb($Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}$)$O_3$-$PbTiO_3$-$PbZrO_3$계 세라믹의 유전특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, xPb(Zn$_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}$)$O_3$-yPbTiO$_3$-zPbZrO$_3$-(0.5wt%)MnO$_2$ ceramics were fabricated by the mixed oxide method sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 2[hr] and then the deielectric, electromechanical coupling factor($K_{p}$ and mechanical coupling factor(Qm) properties were investigated. In 0.1PZN-0.45PT-0.45PZsample, dielectric properties and electromechanical coupling factor were 829 and 29%. In the case of 0.5PZN-0.45PT-0.50PZ sample, that was 101 according to mechanical quality facotr. molphotropic phase boundary(MPB) certained area which $PbTiO_3$addition quatity 40∼50[㏖%].

Effect of Bi2O3/Li2CO3 on Low Temperature Sintering and Dielectrics of BaTiO3 Ceramics (BaTiO3 저온 소결 및 유전상에 미치는 Bi2O3/Li2CO3의 영향)

  • Effect of Bi2O3/Li2CO3 on low temperature sinteirng and dielectric property of BaTiO3 ceramics has been investigated. For the specimen sintered at 110$0^{\circ}C$, it was densified to 96% of BaTiO3 theoretical density by the addition of 1.0-1.25w/o Bi2O3/Li2CO3. Maximum dielectric constant increased and Curie temperature lowered with the increase of Bi2O3/Li2CO3 content, which probably can be explained by thne substitution of Bi3+, Li1+ on BaTiO3 lattice. The volatilization of Li1+, resulting from the increase of soaking time at 110$0^{\circ}C$ leads to the increase of Curie temperature and tetragonality of the specimen.

  • The oxidation behavior of the NiCrAlY bond coat and thermal fatigue failure in the plasma-sprayed thermal barrier coating system, ZrO2.8wt%Y2O3 top coat/Ni-26Cr-5Al-0.5Y bond coat/Hastelloy X superalloy substrate, in commercial use for finned segment of gas turbine burner were investigated. The main oxides formed in the bond coat were NiO, Cr2O3, and Al2O3. It divided the oxide distribution at this interface into two types whether an Al2O3 thin layer existed beneath ZrO2/bond coat interface before operation at high temperature or not. While a continuous layer of NiO was formed mainly in the region where the Al2O3 thin layer was present, the absence of it resulted in the formation of mixture of Cr2O3 and Al2O3 beneath NiO layer. Analyses on the fracture surface of specimen spalled by thermal cycling showed that spalling occurred mainly along the ceram-ic coat near ZrO2/bond coat oxide layer interface, but slightly in the oxide layer region.

  • In this study, the (l-x)$TiTe_3O_{8}$-x$MgTiO_3$ ceramics were investigated to obtain the improved dielectric properties of a high temperature stability and a sintering temperature of less than $900^{\circ}C$ which was necessary for the LTCC. According to the X-ray diffraction patterns of the (l-x)$TiTe_3O_{8}$-x$MgTiO_3$(x=0∼1) ceramics, the columbite structure of $TiTe_3O_{8}$ and ilmenite structure of $MgTiO_3$ were coexisted. Increasing the $MgTiO_3$ mole ratio(x), the density and dielectric constant were decreased and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency was moved to the negative direction and the quality factor was increased. In the case of the 0.6$TiTe_3O_{8}$-0.4$MgTiO_3$ ceramics sintered at $830^{\circ}C$ for 3hr., the microwave dielectric properties were $\varepsilon_{\gamma}$=29.3, Q${\times}$$f_{\gamma}$=39.600GHz and $\tau$$_{f}$=+9.3ppm/$^{\circ}C$.

Dielectric Properties of $BaTiO_3-SrTiO_3$ System ($BaTiO_3-SrTiO_3$ 계의 유전성)

  • $BaTiO_3$ and $SrTiO_3$ were mixed with the mole ratio of 35:65, 50:50 and 65:35 and heated at 1100~120$0^{\circ}C$ for 1~64 hours. The dielectrics of $BaTiO_3$-$SrTiO_3$ system were investigated as a function of amount of solid solution formed. The dielectric constant was increased and Curie temperature was shifted to higher temperature with increasing of heating of soaking time for the same composition and heating temperature. This can be explained by the homogeneous distribution of $Ba^{2+}$ and $Sr^{2+}$ ion in the $BaTiO_3$ system. The Curie temperature was shifted to lower temperature with increasing $SrTiO_3$ in the $BaTiO_3$-$SrTiO_3$system because of decreasing the lattice constant.

Electrical Switching Effects in the Sintered $Fe_2O_3$-$Bi_2O_3$ ($Fe_2O_3$-$Bi_2O_3$ 소결체의 전기적 Switching 특성(I))

  • Electrical switching phenomenon was observed in the Fe2O3-Bi2O3 system for the sintering temperature range of 700$^{\circ}$~85$0^{\circ}C$ for DC conductivity measurements of these sinterd materials in the ambient temperature range of 30$^{\circ}$~20$0^{\circ}C$ have shown that the conductivity increases with increasing the sitering temperature and ambient temperature. The formation of the current channel and the experimental evidence of the dependence of switching threshold voltage on the ambient temperature, strongly indicates that the main electrical switching mechanism of sintered Fe2O3-Bi2O3 is thermal effect.

  • Plasma-sprayed coatings were prepared using by spray-dried Cr$_2$O$_3$ powder with and without MoO$_3$ addition. A reciprocal type tribe-tester was employed to examine friction and wear behavior of the specimens at room temperature. The worn surfaces of plasma spray coated specimens were observed by SEM. The results showed that friction coefficient of the MoO$_3$-added coatings were lower than those without MoO3 addition. However pure Cr$_2$O$_3$ coating showed the lowest wear loss at the self-mated test. The larger protecting layers were observed at the worn surface of plasma spray coated specimens with MoO$_3$ addition.

  • The effects of flux KCl and dopants, La2O3 and Ta2O5, on the PTCR characteristics in molten salt synthesized BaTiO3 have been studied. The resistivity of BaTiO3 at room temperature decreases with increasing amount of dopant La2O3 up to 0.2 atom%, and then increases with La2O3 content. In case of dopant Ta2O5, it increases with increasing amount ofthe dopant. These results could be explained by observation of the microstructure and defect equation. From the results of complex impedance-frequency characteristics, the grain resistances are almost same but the resistances at the grain boundary are quite different.

  • The syntheses of LaNiO$_3$Perovskite crystalline phase from mixtures of La$_2$O$_3$and NiO via it mechanochemical(used planetary mill) and a wet ball mill process were investigated. A single and stable LaNiO$_3$perovskite crystalline phase was successfully prepared by using a heat free mechanochemical process which produced a fine amorphous powder, while that phase was not formed in a wet ball mill process which needed heat treatment ranging from 500 to 150$0^{\circ}C$ and produced a coarse powder. It was shown that the LaNiO$_3$ceramics made of the mechanochemically synthesized powder possesed a good metallic characteristic.
