Objectives : The aim of this study is to investigate the relevant factors which determine the use of oriental healthcare services among subjects with chronic illnesses. Method : This study utilized the data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2005. Out of all the participants of the survey, 11,665 individuals who are older than 19 years old and have one or more chronic diseases were included in this study. Results : The factors that affect utilization of oriental healthcare services were significantly associated with gender, educational level, job, personal income, the number of chronic illnesses, experiences of nontreatment or delayed treatment and admission experiences for the last one year(p<.001). Although some of these factors need further studies, the determining factors for the use of oriental healthcare services are the presence of chronic illness and the number of chronic disease. That is, the chronically ill are more likely to seek oriental healthcare services. And the more chronic diseases the clients have the higher probability of seeking oriental healthcare services was found. Conclusions : The results suggest that the national integrated care services should be established for diverse development of policy regarding the quality of care of chronic illness and cost-effectiveness.

Objectives: Using data from the 1styear of the 7th National Health and Nutrition Survey, this study administered a questionnaire to patients with oral damage and examined the type of medical care used based on the nature of the injury, further characterized by age group and sex. Methods: Of the 8,150 respondents, this study selected those who participated in the health survey and oral exam survey, excluding surveys with missing values, and set 7,681 people as the research participants. This study used SPSS Windows version 23.0(SPSS Inc. IL, USA) as the statistics program and applied the chi-square test (p) based on a complex sample and logistic regression analysis. Results: In the analysis of the type of tooth damage, there was a significant difference (p<.001) in the number of male patients who were injured due to exercise, violence, and safety accidents compared to females. However, there was no significant difference in their type of medical security and whether or not they visited a dental clinic. The patients with private insurance showed relatively high use for tooth extraction and oral surgery (p<.001). Conclusions: The best way to prevent tooth damage is to prevent the accident. For sports or exercises which may cause tooth damage, protective gear, such as a mouthpiece, should be used to prevent tooth damage.

Objectives: This study examined the determinants of quality of life, depending on the presence or absence of asthma in adults, based on secondary wave data. Methods: Among the 21,724 people participating in the 6th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey as it was conducted from the first to third period, 495 participants who were aged 19 or older and responded to the question of the presence or absence of asthma were included in the final analysis. Demographic characteristics were examined using the SPSS/WIN 23.0 software tool for analysis of complex sample survey data. Health-related characteristics were presented using descriptive and multivariate analysis of data. Rao_Scott ${\chi}^2$ was used for the analysis of differences in quality of life, and multiple regression analysis of complex sample survey data was used to analyze factors affecting quality of life. Results: The variable factors negatively influencing quality of life were aging, cognition of their ill health, and limited activities. Conclusions: Based on the analysis, the study suggests that practical and ongoing nursing intervention proposals to improve the quality of life of asthmatic patients should be implemented not only for physical limitations and aging but also for psychological factors that reflect subjective health statuses.
Background: Good patient experience is positively associated with adherence to treatment recommendations, better clinical effectiveness, and health outcomes. This study aims to find out the key factors affecting positive patient experience to improve the quality of care using nationally representative survey data. Methods: The data was collected from the 6th National Health Nutrition Survey in 2015. Four patient experience items were investigated for patients with visiting outpatient care over the past year. Positive patient experience was defined as a case of responding always or usually yes. The t-test, chi-square test, and multiple logistic regression were performed to determine the key factors affecting the outpatient experience. Results: More than 80% of the respondents reported their care experience as positive excluding doctor spending enough time during the consultation. Male, poor health status, and single/divorced, and the longer time interval between outpatient care visit and survey were found to be significantly correlated with negative care experiences in the multiple logistic regression. Patients who received outpatient care at the oriental medicine clinic had a positive experience compared to those received outpatient care at the general hospital. However, patient factors including age, income, job, and insurance type had no significant association with patient experience. Conclusion: Health care providers should prioritize patients who report negative patient experiences and implement management decisions to improve the patient experience.

Objective : This study was carried out to develop a semi-quantitative food frequency Questionnaire (SQFFQ) for estimating average dietary intake to determine the risk factor for lifestyle-related diseases in a conjoint cohort study. Design : We developed an SQFFQ for genomic epidemiological studies based on the data in the'98 Korea Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. A subset of data on informative food items was collected using the 24-hr recall method with 2,714 adults aged 40 or older living in middle-sized cities or in rural areas in Korea. The cumulative percent contribution and cumulative multiple regression coefficients of 17 nutrients (energy, fat, carbohydrate, protein, fiber, iron, potassium, sodium, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin A, retinol, $\beta$-carotene, vitamin $B_1$, vitamin $B_2$, niacin and vitamin C) of each food were computed. Results : Two hundred and forty-nine foods, which were selected based on their 0.9 cumulative percent contribution, and 254 foods, which were selected based on their 0.9 cumulative multiple regression coefficients, respectively, were grouped into 97 food groups according to their nutrient contents. Several popular Korean foods, which were missing from the list due to the seasonality of the survey, were included. The portion sizes were derived from the same data set. The SQFFQ covered 84.8 percent of the intake of 17 nutrients in the one day diet record data of our 326 cohort study subjects. Conclusions . The final list included 103 food items. The foods list in the SQFFQ described herein accounted for 84.8 percent of the average intake of 17 nutrients. Therefore, the list could be used for the assessment of the baseline dietary intakes of the conjoint cohort studies.
This study aimed to identify a nutritionally vulnerable group and to examine their nutritional problems based on a relationship between socioeconomic position and nutritional status through life-course. A cross-sectional nationwide survey of 2005 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) was used. A total of 8,930 participants aged $\geq$ 1 year were included. The socioeconomic position indicator was education level. Nutritional status was assessed by the percentage attainment of a dietary reference intake (DRI) and dietary quality based on nutrient intakes estimated by a 24 hour-recall data. Food insufficiency was examined by one-item food insufficiency questionnaire. The difference in nutritional status and food insufficiency according to educational level was tested by General Linear Model and Chi-square test, respectively. The nutritional status and food insufficiency was the worst during adolescence and older age than other period. Both quantity and quality of nutrient intakes was poorer in low education group than high education group. The prevalence of food insufficiency also was higher in low education group. The results were consistent across the life-course and sex. Based on these findings, we suggest that the development of various policy and strategies targeted to nutritionally vulnerable group is necessary to reduce nutritional inequality by socioeconomic position.
