열영상을 이용한 작물 생장 감시 -영양분 스트레스 분석- (Plant Growth Monitoring Using Thermography -Analysis of nutrient stress-)

  • Automated greenhouse production system often require crop growth monitoring involving accurate quantification of plant physiological properties. Conventional methods are usually burdensome, inaccurate, and harmful to crops. A thermal image analysis system can accomplish rapid and accurate measurements of physiological-property changes of stressed crops. In this research a thermal imaging system was used to measure the leaf-temperature changes of several crops according to nutrient stresses. Thermal images were obtained from lettuce, cucumber, and pepper plants. Plants were placed in growth chamber to provide relatively constant growth environment. Results showed that there were significant differences in the temperature of stressed plants and non-stressed plants. In a case of the both N deficiency and excess, the leaf temperatures of cucumber were $2^{\circ}C$ lower than controlled temperature. The leaf temperature of cucumber was $2^{\circ}C$ lower than controlled temperature only when it was under N excess stress. For the potassium deficiency or excess stress, the leaf temperaures of cucumber and hot pepper were $2^{\circ}C$ lower than controls, respectively. The phosphorous deficiency stress dropped the leaf temperatures of cucumber and hot pepper $2^{\circ}C$ and $1.5^{\circ}C$ below than controls. However, the leaf temperature of lettuce did not change. It was possible to detect the changes in leaf temperature by infrared thermography when subjected to nutrition stress. Since the changes in leaf temperatures were different each other for plants and kinds of stresses, however, it is necessary to add a nutrient measurement system to a plant-growth monitoring system using thermography.

청소년의 식행동과 심리적 요인이 피곤 자각도에 미치는 영향 (Contribution of Food Behavior an Psychological Factor to Perceived Tiredness in Adolescens)

  • The relationship among food behavior, psychological factor(life strees) and perceive tiredness was investigated in 514 adolescents. Tiredness was measured in four cases: in lessons, before school, in the early evening and at weekends. Adolescents felt most tired in lessons and before school, and leat at weekends. Irregularity of meal times and skipping breakfast were positively correlated with tiredness in lessons and befor school. Consumption of some foods was related to perceived tiredness. High sugar or fat containing ice-cream, hamburger of fizzy drinks in boys, and crisps and cookies in girls were positively associated with tiredness. Whereas beans and mushrooms were negatively associated with tiredness in girls. Life stress(by scholastic problem and personal problem) of adolescents was positively related to tiredness. The contribution of stress to tiredness was much greater than of food behavior according to multiple linear regression .There was no relationship between nutrients intake and tiredness in lessons and before school which were more strongly influenced by stress, whereas the relationship was found at weekend without influences of stress. The more tired, the lower NARs(nutrient adequacy ratio) of energy, phosphorus, vitamin A, vitamin B$_2$, and niacin were. In conclusion, some eating behavior and psychological factor can cause tiredness in adolescents, but tiredness in school and before school had more of a psychological cause than at weekend. 여대생의 비만도에 따른 월경전증후군 증상, 영양섭취 실태 및 심리지수 연구 (A Study on Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), Nutrient Intake, Psychological Index according to the Obesity Degree of College Women)

  • This study was designed to compare the incidence and severity of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) between normal (N = 85) and overweight or obese (N = 28) college female students and investigated correlation between PMS, nutrient intake, hematological index and psychological index (depression, anxiety, stress). Each subject was asked a Menstrual Discomfort Questionnaire (MDQ) for PMS by 5 Likert scale. The PMS scores of women in the normal weight subjects ranked in order of severity were water retention (2.71), followed by behavioral change (2.58), negative affect (2.46), pain (2.31), autonomic reaction (2.27), decreased concentration (2.16). The symptoms of 'pain' and 'behavioral change' of overweight or obese subject were significantly higher than those of normal subject (p < 0.05). And total cholesterol concentration of overweight or obese subjects was significantly higher than in normal subject (p < 0.05). There was a significant positive correlation (p < 0.05) between the symptoms of 'negative effect' and BMI. And the triglyceride concentration was positively related with 'water retention (p < 0.01)'. The symptoms of 'decreased concentration' were negatively correlated with calcium (p < 0.01) and vitamin B6 intake (p < 0.05). The depression score were positively related with symptoms of 'behavioral change (p < 0.05)', 'negative affect' (p < 0.01), and the anxiety score was positively correlated with 'behavioral change (p < 0.05)' and 'decreased concentration (p < 0.05)'. The stress score was positively correlated with 'decreased concentration (p < 0.01)', 'behavioral change (p < 0.05)' and 'negative affect (p < 0.05)'. This suggests that PMS represents the clinical manifestation of a calcium, vitamin $B_6$ deficiency and psychological disorder. Therefore we concluded that nutrient supplementation, depression and stress management may help to relieve PMS symptoms.

접목 전 대목 및 접수의 양수분 관리가 고추의 접목활착 및 접목묘의 생육에 미치는 영향 (Graft-take and Growth of Grafted Pepper Transplants Influenced by the Nutrient and Irrigation Management of Scion and Rootstock before Grafting)

  • 접목묘의 활착률 및 생육은 활착기간 중의 환경조건뿐만 아니라 접목 전 대목 및 접수의 생육상태의 영향을 받을 수 있다. 접목 직후에 있어서의 환경 스트레스를 완화하고 생장을 촉진하기 위해서는, 접목 후의 환경 조건뿐만 아니라 접목 이전의 대목 및 육묘관리에도 주목할 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 접목 전 접수의 수분관리, 대목의 양분관리가 고추 접목묘의 활착 및 생육에 미치는 영향을 검토하기 위해 수행되었다. 접목 전 접수 육묘시 관수에 따른 고추 접목묘의 생육을 검토하기 위해, 접수의 관수 횟수 및 관수시기를 접목 5일 전 최종 관수 후 0, 1(접목 2일 전), 1(접목 1일 전), 2회(접목 2일 전 및 접목 직전)로 처리하였다. 관수횟수 및 관수시기에 따라 접수의 상토 및 식물체의 수분포텐셜이 영향을 받았으며, 이에 따라 접수 및 접목묘의 엽면적, 생체중 및 건물중 등에 있어서 차이를 보여, 접목 13일째 접목 2일전 1회 관수 처리구의 생체중 및 건물중은 0회 관수처리구 대비 각각 29, 34% 높았다. 따라서 72공 플러그 트레이를 이용한 고추 접수 생산시 접목 전 5일간의 기간 중 2일 전 1회 관수와 같이, 접목 전 접수의 수분관리를 통하여 적절한 수분스트레스를 줌으로써 접목시 접목묘의 수분스트레스를 완화하여 원활한 접목활착 및 이후 생육촉진을 도모할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 접목 전 대목 육묘시 양분공급에 따른 고추 접목묘의 생육을 검토하기 위해, 접목 일주일 전부터 대목의 양액공급 횟수를 0, 1(접목 2일 전), 2(접목 2일전 및 접목 직전), 4회(접목 7, 5, 2일 전 및 접목 직전)로 처리하였을 때, 상토의 pH와 EC, 대목과 그를 이용한 접목묘의 생육 및 식물체내 무기성분 함량이 영향을 받아, 접목 13일째 4회 공급처리구의 생체중 및 건물중은 0회 처리구 대비 각각 30, 20% 증가하였다. 따라서 72공 플러그 트레이를 이용한 고추 대목 생산시 접목 전 7일간의 기간 중 4회 이상의 양액 공급을 통해 접목묘의 생육을 촉진할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 결론적으로, 접목전 대목 및 접수의 양수분 관리에 의해 고추 접목묘의 생육이 영향을 받으며, 따라서 접목 전 대목 및 접수의 적절한 양수분 관리를 통해서 접목묘의 생육촉진 및 품질향상을 도모할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Characteristics of inorganic nutrient absorption of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) plants grown under drought condition

  • Global warming and climate change have been one of the most important problems last 2 decades. Global warming is known to cause abnormal climate and influence ecology, food production and human health. According to climate change model global warming is causing expansion of drought and increase of evaporation. Therefore, securing water in agriculture has been an important issue for crop cultivation. As potato is susceptible to drought, water shortage generally results in decrease of yield and decrease of biomass. In this research, we investigated characteristics of inorganic nutrient absorption and growth of plants grown under drought condition. Plants were sampled in sites of Cheong-ju and Gangneung, where the severity of drought stress were different. During the growth period in Gangneung, total rainfall in 2016 decreased by 50% compared with those in last 5 years average. Especially, there was almost no rain in tuber enlargement period (from mid-May to mid-June). On the other hand, the total rainfall in of Cheong-ju was is similar to those in last 5 years average. Inorganic components including K, Ca and Mg and plant growth factors such as plant length, stem length, leaf area index and plant biomass were investigated. Tuber yields in both areas were investigated at harvest. Growth period of plants was is longer in Cheong-ju than that in Gangneung. Contents of all inorganic components were higher in plants grown in Cheong-ju than in Gangneung. The results were attributed to higher production of plant biomass in Cheong-ju. Considering the results, severe drought stress conditions in Gangneung accelerated plant aging and resulted in low plant growth. Although total yield was greatly reduced under drought stress the rate of commercial yield was is not significantly different with non-drought conditions.

Growth and Yield Responses of Two Rice Cultivars to Ozone Treatment under Different Nutrient Supply

  • Two rice cultivars of the japonica type, ozone-resistant Ilpumbyeo (IL) and ozone-susceptible Keu-mobyeo#l (KM) were exposed to ozone ($O_3$) at 0.15 ppm for 30 days. The available nutrient regimes were varied by doubling the supply of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) within a basic fertilizer status (N, P, K; 15, 12, 12 kg l0$a^{-1}$). There was little difference on plant height between ozone-treated and nontreated plants. The most significant ozone stress on tiller number was shown on the 30th day of ozone exposure. Slight recovery from ozone stress was noted on the 60th day. On the 30th day, tiller number was greatly decreased by 40.8% in IL and 64.6% in KM, whereas at a high nitrogen supply regime (2N), it was decreased by 21.4% in IL and 42.7% in KM as compared to the control not treated with ozone at basic fertilizer status. The inhibition of tiller production caused by ozone exposure was alleviated on the 60th day. In both cultivars, number of spikelets per plant and weight of 100 grains were affected little by the ozone treatment irrespective of nutrient regime. However, the number of panicles per plant and yield were reduced significantly. In both cultivars, yield of ozone-treated plants with 2N status was 12.4-16.1 % higher than that of the ozone-treated plants with basic nutrient status. A significant yield decrease of 47.8% and 33.4% was observed for IL and KM, respectively, in ozone-treated plants with higher potassium (2K) status.

한국 노인의 식품안정성에 따른 인구사회학적 특성, 영양섭취상태 및 정신건강상태: 2008-2010년 국민건강영양조사 자료를 이용하여 (Socio-demographic Characteristics, Nutrient Intakes and Mental Health Status of Older Korean Adults depending on Household Food Security: Based on the 2008-2010 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey)

  • Objectives: This study was performed to investigate the associations of food security with socio-demographic characteristics, nutrient intakes and mental health status among older Korean adults. Methods: This study was conducted using data from the 2008-2010 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). Subjects were 4,451 adults aged 65~98 years. Food security was measured using a self-reported question on food sufficiency of subjects' household. Based on the answers, study subjects were classified into secure, mildly insecure, moderately insecure, and severely insecure groups. Dietary intake was estimated by 24-hour dietary recall. Nutrient intake was assessed by dietary reference intakes (DRI). As for mental health status, the data on mental stress, depression, and suicide ideation were used. Results: Rate of food insecurity in older adults was 14.3%. Old age, being female, low education, low income level, living alone, and discomfort in daily living were more related to food insecurity. Means of nutrient intakes were significantly different according to food security status. Intakes of calcium, potassium, and vitamin $B_2$ were lower than recommended intakes in all groups. Consumption amounts of soy and soybean products, vegetables, mushrooms, fruits, vegetable oils, meats, eggs, seafood, and dairy products were lower in food insecure groups. Mental stress, depression, and suicide ideation were higher in food insecure groups independent of the gender and income level. Conclusions: These present findings suggested that food security is related to mental health as well as nutrition status in older Korean adults. A national system that include food and psychosocial support programs for the elderly should be considered in order to improve the overall health of older Korean adults.

Nutrient requirement for maintenance and nutritional changes of the Hanwoo steers in early-fattening stage under heat stress

  • Four early-fattening Hanwoo steers weighing $247{\pm}13.5kg$ were used within a $4{\times}4$ Latin square design to establish a nutrient requirement for maintenance and to investigate nutritional changes in the steers under heat stress condition. The steers were fed four different energy level diets: 100% (control) and 100%, 115% and 130% of total digestible nutrients (TDN) requirement of the early-fattening Hanwoo steers for maintenance based on the Korean Feeding Standard for Hanwoo. The steers in the control were housed with no stress (temperature $24^{\circ}C$ and humidity 60%), whereas the steers in the other groups were under heat stress (temperature $30^{\circ}C$ and humidity 70%). True digestibilities of dry matter (DM) and other nutrients were not significantly (p > 0.05) affected by heat stress (i.e., control vs T100). This may be the result of a lower DM intake than that of the Korean feeding standard due to the establishment of the nutrients requirement under heat stress. Heat stress and different energy intake levels did not affect the blood metabolite concentrations. Average daily gain (ADG) for T100 (-69.6 g) was lower than that of the control (-44.6 g, numerically), T115 (44.6 g, p < 0.05) and T130 (83.3 g, p < 0.05), respectively. Based on the ADG and TDN intake, the equation (Y = 0.1814X + 111.5) for the TDN requirement of the early fattening Hanwoo steers for maintenance was calculated, indicating that 11.5% of TDN requirement for maintenance under heat stress may be additionally supplied.

일부 지역 경찰공무원의 직무스트레스 정도에 따른 건강관련 형태 및 영양소 섭취량에 관한 연구 (Health-Related Behaviors and Nutrient Intake of Police Officers Based on the Level of Job Stress)

  • 현대사회의 다양한 직업 중에서 경찰공무원의 업무는 힘들고 위험한 직업으로 각종 정신적, 신체적, 환경적 스트레스 발생 가능성이 매우 높다. 스트레스에 대한 대처능력은 평상시 건강 행태 및 영양소 섭취 정도에 따라 사회심리적인 스트레스 상황에 유효하게 대처할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 전북지역 경찰공무원 166명을 대상으로 경찰공무원의 직무스트레스 정도에 따른 식생활 및 영양섭취와의 관계를 조사하였다. 경찰공무원은 주된 직무스트레스 요인으로는 '직무요구', '조직체계' 및 '직무자율성 결여'이었으며, 95% 이상의 대상자들이 본인이 건강하다고 인식하고 있었다. 전체의 86.1% 정도가 음주를 하고, 42.7% 정도 흡연을 하며, 89.6%가 운동을 지속적으로 하여 한국 성인의 평균과 비교하여 비교적 건강행태가 양호한 것으로 나타났으며, 직무스트레스에 따른 음주, 흡연, 운동 빈도의 차이는 보이지 않았다. 식습관 조사 결과 43% 정도가 아침식사를 하는 것으로 나타났고, 직무스트레스가 적은 집단이 높은 집단에 비해 아침 결식 비율도 낮고(p<0.01), 식사 속도도 양호하며(p<0.05), 간식습관도 양호한 것(p<0.001)으로 조사되었다. 직무스트레스에 따른 맛의 기호도는 스트레스가 높은 집단이 단 음식을 덜 선호하는 것으로 나타났다(p<0.05). 직무스트레스 정도에 따라 영양소 섭취정도는 유의한 차이는 없었으나, 스트레스가 높은 집단에서 칼슘 및 비타민 $B_2$ 섭취량이 권장섭취량의 75% 미만으로 매우 불량한 것으로 나타났다. 이상과 같이 경찰공무원의 건강관련 행태 분석 결과 경찰공무원은 직업특성 상 일반성인과 비교하여 건강에 대한 인식 및 흡연, 음주, 운동 등의 생활습관은 비교적 양호한 편으로 나타났으나, 부족한 영양소 섭취, 잦은 아침결식과 간식섭취, 빠른 식사 속도 등 식습관 및 영양 섭취 부분에서는 문제점이 확인되었다. 따라서 건강유지와 만성질환의 발병을 예방하기 위하여 경찰공무원 스스로 올바른 식습관을 인식하고 실천을 유도하기 위한 식생활 개선 교육프로그램이 직장 내에서 주기적으로 이루어져야 하겠으며, 또한 직장 차원에서의 직무스트레스 관리도 병행되어야 할 것으로 사료된다.

Feeding a calcium-enriched fatty acid could ameliorate the growth performance of broilers under the chronic heat stress

  • The current study was conducted to evaluate the effect of calcium-enriched fatty acid supplementation on the growth performance, blood metabolites, intestinal morphology, carcass traits, and nutrient digestibility of broilers subjected to chronic heat stress. A total of 210 one-day-old broiler chicks (40.12 ± 0.25 g) were randomly allocated to one of five dietary treatments, to obtain six replicates per treatment. Broilers were subjected to chronic heat stress from day 21 to day 35, post-hatching, at 34℃ for 9 h per day. The body weight (BW) and feed intake of the experimental broilers were recorded weekly, and the average daily gain (ADG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were calculated accordingly. Rectal temperature was measured to compare the basal body temperatures between individuals, and blood samples were collected on days 21 and 35 to evaluate basal body temperature, serum total cholesterol, and the triglyceride content of the broilers. On days 21 and 35, one broiler from each cage (n=6) was euthanized to measure carcass trait parameters, nutrient digestibility in digesta, and intestinal morphology. On days 14, 28, and 35, the broilers fed 2.0% calcium-enriched fatty acids had higher BW (p < 0.05) than those fed the other diets. However, no differences (p > 0.05) were found in the average daily feed intake (ADFI) between dietary treatments over the 35 experimental days. On the other hand, on day 21, post-hatching, the broilers fed the 2.0% calcium-enriched fatty acid diet had improved (p < 0.05) dietary feed efficiencies compared to the other treatments. On day 28, the broilers fed the 5.0% of calcium-enriched fatty acid diet also had higher (p < 0.05) dietary feed efficiencies than those fed with the other dietary treatments. No effects (p > 0.05) on carcass weight, nutrient digestibility, intestinal morphology, or blood parameters were found between broilers fed with dietary treatments. This study demonstrated that the inclusion of an additive, containing 2.0% calcium-enriched fatty acid, to broiler diet could ameliorate the negative growth performance of broilers; and no interaction (p > 0.05) was observed between the calcium-enriched fatty acid and nutrient digestibility, digestive anatomy, blood metabolism, and carcass traits of broilers subjected to chronic heat stress conditions for 35 days post-hatching.
