Purpose: This study attempted to see the trend of researches in nursing old people. Method: We analyzed a total of 105 articles that were published in The Journal of Korean Community Nursing, J. Korean Community Health Nursing Academic Society. The J. of Korea Acad. Soc. of Home Care Nursing from 1987 to June 2003. Result: 1. It was found that researches on old people nursing had increased every year since 1995 and most largely in 1995$\sim$1999. 2. It was known that the majority of researches were designed to be non-experimental and their subjects were old people over 65 living at home. 3. Nursing interventions used in experimental studies were music therapy and various health promotion programs. 4. Major research concepts are physical activities, mental health, physical health, medical management, social health, quality of life and family health. Conclusion: The number of studies has increased in community nursing journals, but there have been not many studies about polices and management for old people living in community society and suggestions of practical alternatives. Thus it is necessary to carry out more community nursing studies about management and education for old people.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze trends in complementary and alternative therapy in nursing research in Korea. Method: The researchers examined academic theses and dissertations published from 1990 to 2002, and 151 articles were used for the analysis. Result: Nursing research on CAT increased rapidly from 1995 Articles with quantitative research designs made up 93.9% of the total and there were more experimental studies than non-experimental studies. Patients who had surgery, mental disorders, renal failure, hypertension, arthritis, dementia & cancer were the most frequently participants in studies on CAT. The type of CAT used in nursing research were mind-body therapy (65.8%), manual healing therapy (28.7%), phamacologic & biological therapy (3.7%), bioelectromagnetics (0.9%) and herbal therapy (0.9%). In 44 articles both psychological and physiological parameters were used as dependent variables. In 34 articles only physiological parameters were used and in 13 only psychological parameters. The most frequently used physiological parameters in CAT were pain, physiological function and vital signs, while the most used psychological parameters were anxiety, depression and stress. Conclusion: More studies about CAT are needed to extend the role and fields for professional nursing. There is a need to conduct qualitative studies in nursing about the experiences of patients who receive CAT and nurses who use CAT.
This study was done to analyze the trends of research on stroke in Korea, to suggest future direction, for research on stroke. This article reviewed 75 nursing research papers on stroke done since 1990 to 2000 by examining them according to the period of publication or presentation, research design, type of subjects, measurement variables, the intervention outcome of experimental research, and theme of qualitative research. The research were as follows : 1. 26 of 75 studies were composed of master thesis and dissertation of graduate school. There were 53 nonexperimental research, 15 experimental research, and 7 qualitative studies design. 2. Stroke patients subject' Characteristic were 44 and Family and Spouses of caregiver support were 28 of total studies. 3. Most measurement instruments used for research were translated and redesigned it into Korean that developed by foreigners, and development measurement instruments used Kang's ADL. 4. Family support and Social support was shown the frequently among correlational research. 5. Methodological research were development of an evaluation tool for the quality of nursing care in stroke patients, caregiver support of development of nursing intervention list, and Home care Nursing Intervention protocol, and development of client selection criteria based on the needs of services to be offered. 6. The experimental research of intervention were mostly education nursing intervention, rehabilitation program on functional recovery, support nursing intervention, and applying a home care protocol on the nursing care intervention. 7. Theme of qualitative research were family experience, home care in family experience, soobal experience, illness experience, hope of Stroke patients and so on. Phenomenologic methodology and Granded Theory was designed of Qualitative research. On the basis of the above finding the following recommendations are made: 1. It's necessary to develop a reliable and variable measurement tool for stroke patients and family care of stroke patients. 2. It's necessary to study the comparison of Nursing Studies of stroke research abroad, the replication to establish the effect of nursing intervention stroke patients and family care of stroke patients.
The topic I have chosen for presentation to you today is entitled, the theory of change in nursing practice or to put it into simpler words. How do new ideas in nursing get started - Where do they come from\ulcorner - How are these ideas spread through the social system of nurses\ulcorner - What makes some Directors of Nursing more ready to accept change than others\ulcorner What factors in-fluence than to introduce change\ulcorner The process of change has been the subject of considerable research in such diverse disciplines and fields as anthropology and rural sociology, marketing and, also, education, for many years. The studies are called“diffusion”studies, or sometimes“adoption”studies, or“adoption of innovation”studies. They deal specifically with the transmission of innovations to members of a social system, and are considered a subset of research in the general field of communication, Although a number of studies have been undertaken in medicine, and, in the past decade, numerous ones in education, there have been few studies on the process of change in nursing. Yet, nursing has undergone tremendous changes in the past 10 years - the nursing process has been introduced, there is the expanded role of the nurse which is rapidly becoming a regular mode of practice - and many, many more changes, We seem to be always running to try. to keep up with changes that have already taken place. Yet little is known about known about the process of change itself - how practitioners learn about new ideas and techniques, or about the factors which influence nurses to accept some changes and reject others. The purpose of the study I am about. to describe was to analyze the process of change as it functioned in regard to nursing innovations in a selected segment of Canadian hospitals, and to relate the analysis to general research and theory about information transmission and the acceptance of change. Three aspects of the process were investigated : 1. The flow of information about changes in nursing practice through a network of hospitals. 2. Factors influencing the adoption of changes in nursing practice. 3. Factors influencing delay in the adoption process, the rejection of changes, or their discontinuance following adoption.
The purpose of this study was to describe prenatal nursing intervention studies on pregnant women and their families published in Korean nursing journals to identify research trends and to analyze the characteristics of intervention studies. This scoping review was conducted using Arksey and O'Malley's framework. We identified a research question and searched six domestic electronic databases for relevant articles. Forty-five references that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were finally selected. We extracted the data using an analytic framework, and then collated and summarized the characteristics of the intervention studies. The most frequently used research designs were non-randomized controlled trials (91.1%), and only a few studies applied a specific theoretical framework (24.4%). The participants were mainly pregnant women only (64.4%) during the third trimester (35.6%) of pregnancy. Prenatal education was the most common type of intervention (48.9%), followed by complementary therapy (37.8%) and psychosocial support programs (13.3%). The most commonly used outcome variables were drawn from the psychological domain (44.5%), although distinct types of outcome variables-especially from the psychological and physical domains-were used to measure the effectiveness of different types of prenatal interventions. This review suggests that further prenatal nursing intervention studies in Korea should expand the study participants to include pregnant women's family members, high-risk and vulnerable groups, and women throughout entire pregnancy. Furthermore, it is necessary to develop integrative prenatal nursing interventions that promote family support and participation by facilitating partnerships among women, families, and nurses before, during, and after pregnancy.
Purpose: The objective of this literature review study was to identify research's trends and methodological issues of cost analysis on nursing services. Methods: Researches which analyzed nursing services cost, were selected from journal articles and master or doctoral dissertation studies. The total numbers of the collected studies were 23. Results: The number of studies on nursing services cost has been increased rapidly since middle-1990. The 5 methodological frameworks to classify the cost analysis researches was found. 4 researches were using the traditional costing method. 6 researches were using the clinical patient classification systems. 4 researches were using the Korean Diagnosis Related Group (KDRG). 5 researches were using the Resource Based Relative Value Scale (RBRVS). 4 researches were using the Activity Based Costing (ABC). Conclusion: These results will be used to provide the basic data for developing a more refined cost analysis method on nursing services. For further studies, we will suggest that the consent criteria of cost items need to measure nursing services be developed and the conducting cost analysis on nursing services be networked a hospital's cost management system.
The purpose of this study is to identify factors associated with effective peer-assisted learning (PAL) for nursing students. This review examined studies on PAL in nursing education. The literature was searched using terms including 'nursing & peer assisted learning,' 'nursing & peer learning,' and 'nursing & peer teaching.' Potentially relevant research on PAL was identified, and 12 studies were determined to meet the inclusion criteria. This review includes five qualitative, three mixed-methods, and three experimental studies published on the topic. In the studies reviewed, practicum classes were found to use PAL the most. Students of the same age were most commonly the subjects of PAL, as indicated in six papers. PAL has been suggested to affect participants' knowledge, self-efficacy, confidence, and anxiety. The findings indicate that interactions between peers promote learning and lead to mutually positive responses, which provide opportunities for self-development. Finally, students' learning outcomes improve and their confidence in their knowledge and skills increases as they experience the role of student nurse. These findings indicate that PAL can be utilized as an efficient learning method in nursing education programs. However, effective strategies for using PAL to achieve learning objectives and maximize learning outcomes are needed.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify contents and trends of Korean nursing doctoral dissertations in terms of research methodology and theoretical characteristics. Methods: The design of the study was descriptive study and a total of 1,089 quantitative studies completed between 1982 and 2010 were reviewed using the analytical framework developed by the researchers. Results: The majority of studies utilized the experimental design (51.5%) and the others were survey design (38.8%) and methodological design (5.0%). Study subjects were shown as patients (45%), care givers (11.2%), ordinary persons (40.6%) and others (3.2%). There were growing trends in experimental design and patients as subjects. The prevailing data collection settings were hospitals (45.8%) and community (27.8%). The theoretical frameworks that studies were based on were the existing theories (37%) and a newly developed theoretical framework by a researcher (25.2%). a framework derived from other studies by the researcher (25.2%). Majority of studies (78.5%) employed a single theory as a theoretical framework. However, 31.8% of studies had no theoretical framework based on. Conclusion: Findings of this study provided the opportunities to shed new light on the current status of Korean doctoral dissertation and to deliberate on the future direction of nursing studies in Korea.
Purpose : The aim of this study is to review cost analysis methodological issues in the nursing literature. Method : The subjects of this study were articles published in Korea from 1961 to August, 2002. They were searched by key words 'cost' and 'nursing' from various DB(National Assembly Library, The National Library of Korea, RICH etc). Finally, 31 articles were collected. Results : 1) The major type of cost analysis was a cost comparison study. 2) The important methodological weaknesses were as followers: First, many studies did not describe a cost analysis framework or a cost analysis assumption. Second, a few studies described selection criteria of cost items and effectiveness items. Third, many studies did not do a sensitivity analysis. Conclusion : With these results, it will be possible to develop a more proper cost analysis methodological framework and also to make an evaluation criteria for cost analysis nursing study.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify trends of nursing concept development in Korean journal papers to improve accurate understanding of nursing concepts. Methods: A systematic review of 216 concept development articles published from 1970 to 2018 that met the inclusion criteria was conducted using Research Information Sharing Service (RISS) databases. Results: The most common method of concept development was Walker and Avant's concept analysis method, identified in 139 (64.3%) of the 216 studies, followed by 48 examples of hybrid models (22.2%) and 15 examples of evolutionary methods (6.9%). Chinn and Kramer's method, Norris's clarification, Wilson's method, and others were also used. The concepts of "spirituality" and "fatigue" were most frequently analyzed. Among the 139 studies that used Walker and Avant's concept analysis method, 127 studies (91.4%) applied all the recommended steps; the others applied the recommended steps partially, omitting description of model cases/additional cases, antecedents/consequences, and empirical indicators. Among the studies using the hybrid model, among two (5.7%) did not describe attributes, three (8.5%) did not provide definitions, and 16 (45.7%) did not present empirical indicators in the final stage. Conclusion: Among concept development studies published in Korean journals, Walker and Avant's concept analysis method is most commonly used. In case of most studies using Walker and Avant's method a suitable concept analysis process is applied, but in case of other studies using the other concept development method, a suitable concept analysis process is not applied. Therefore, a suitable concept analysis process must be applied for concept development in nursing research.
