  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the choice experiences of students majoring in nursing and whose mothers were nurses. Methods: The participants of this study were 12 students, six male and six female. Data were collected via an in-depth personal interview. The collected data were analyzed with Colazzi's phenomenological methodology. Results: A core theme of 'Natural choice as my major' emerged. In addition, we found the following three theme clusters: 1. My choice; 2. Expanding relationship between Mother and I; 3. Journey with mother. Conclusion: The results of this study show that the mothers of nursing students who were nurses themselves were good role models. They could influence their children to choose nursing as a profession. Also, they affected or are affecting their children to be colleagues in the same way. If we could provide good working environments for nurses, the next generation will also choose nursing as a profession and ultimately establish a family line. An educational setting is required to provide better professional nursing conditions for the next generation.

Methods: A total of 180 nursing students were recruited using convenience sampling from a university in G city in July, 2021. Results: The professional identity scores were higher than the average, and differed significantly according to nurses' academic grade, department satisfaction, interpersonal relations, and subjective health status. Professional identity showed a significant positive correlation with academic self-efficacy (r=.69, p<.001), major satisfaction (r=.72, p<.001), and clinical practice satisfaction (r=.71, p<.001). The factors affecting professional identity were clinical practice satisfaction (ß=.42, p<.001) and academic self-efficacy (ß=.38, p<.001). Conclusion: Our finding suggest that nursing students should be encouraged to develop their professional identity by improving clinical practice satisfaction and academic self-efficacy. Therefore, it is necessary to provide nursing education programs that increase their pride as nurses and establish their professionalism in nursing.

  • Purpose: This study investigates the level of nursing professionalism and factors that affect nurse perceptions. Method: This study is a descriptive study involving 443 nursing students from two universities. Data were collected in September 2012 via a structured self-report questionnaire and subsequently analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. Results: The mean scores for nurse image, core elements of nursing professionalism and nursing professionalism were $3.65{\pm}.46$, $4.17{\pm}.39$ and $3.59{\pm}.45$, respectively. Nursing Professionalism had a significant positive correlation with nurse image (r=.749, p<.001) and core elements of nursing professionalism (r=.365, p<.001). In multiple linear regression, factors that influenced nursing professionalism were: temperament as nurses, professionalism, vision of career, role performance of nurses' image, and fundamental nursing practical experience. These variables explained about 58.8% of the total variance in nursing professionalism. Conclusion: For more positive nursing professionalism among students, more attention should be paid to enhancing the positive image of nurses. Doing so can serve as a fundamental resource for the development of appropriate strategies for nursing professionalism.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of simulation-based education on communication and clinical judgment in nursing students and nurses. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. Seven databases were searched to obtain articles published in Korean or English. Of 12,864 articles reviewed, 36 were included in a systematic review and 23 in a meta-analysis. To estimate the size of the effects of simulation-based education, a meta-analysis was performed using the R package meta program. The risk of bias was assessed using RoB 2.0 and ROBINS-I. Results: The effect sizes (ES) of simulation-based education on communication and clinical judgment were ES=0.77, 95% confidence interval (95% CI)=0.43 to 1.12 on communication-related variables and ES=1.84, 95% CI=1.03 to 2.65 on clinical judgment. Conclusion: Simulation-based education for nursing students and nurses is useful for improving their communication and clinical judgment. Thus, it is necessary to develop and apply simulation-based education programs for nursing students and nurses to improve their abilities in communications and clinical judgment.
