Factors Affecting Quality of Nursing Services and Intention to Revisit as Perceived by Hospitalized Patients and Nurses in Medium Sized Urban Hospitals (일 지역 중소 종합병원 입원환자와 간호사가 지각한 간호서비스 질과 의료기관 재이용 의도에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors which affect the quality of nursing services and intention to revisit as perceived by hospitalized patients and nurses in medium sized urban hospitals. Methods: The SERVQUAL scale, a measurement of overall nursing services and intention to revisit a medical institution, was used. The sample consisted of 223 patients and 239 nurses from four medium sized hospitals in I city. Frequencies, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and Stepwise method regression were used to analyze the data. Results: For expectation, nurse and patient perceptions were similar, but for performance, patient perception was significantly higher than nurse perception for five factors. The factors affecting intention to revisit the hospital were those recommending, satisfaction with medical and nursing services. Conclusion: The findings indicate that differences between expectations and performance for both patients and nurses need to be reduced in order to elevate patient satisfaction. A precondition for intention to revisit and increased satisfaction is the development of marketing strategies as well as intervention programs in nursing.

Comparative Study on the Nurses' Job Satisfaction between the Oriental Medicine Ward and the General Ward (한방병동과 일반병동 간호사의 직무만족도의 비교연구)

  • In our society today, a variety of medical caring system, along with a scientific development in the area of oriental medical science plus national demand, has increased the augmentation and the opening of oriental wards and hospitals (Han Bang), which has come to create an additional requirement of nursing activity at oriental medicine wards should be different from that of the general wards or the same as the other. In view of this, various studies need to be made in this connection. The purpose of this study is to comprehend the number of nurses who want to work at oriental medicine wards and measure job satisfaction in nursing as compared with those working at general wards so as to provide basic materials for future assignment and supplementary training for the nurses. An attempt was made to contribute toward nursing administration on the one hand improving nursing training course on the other hand. A total of 72 nurses currently working at two oriental medicine hospitals available in Seoul and 82 general nurses were selected for this study using the questionaire from December 1993 to January 1994. An instrument for the study was based on the measurement of work satisfaction developed by Paula L. Stamps including 37 questions complemented by Kim for revision (1993) and 14 questions regarding general characteristics and oriental medicine wards. The instrument to test dependability showed Cronbach's=0.7711. The collected data have been processed by computer package SPSS. General characteristics of the two groups and the matters involved in oriental medicine wards were calculated into real figure and percentage an similarities between the two groups were analyzed by t-test and F-test according to the characteristics of variables. The comparative test on work satisfaction among the two groups including general characteristics and work factors were conducted by t-test and F-test. The major findings as a result of the study are as follows : 1. As general characteristics, age group of 2630 years are more than any segment of age. As to marital status, the number of those in single status is slightly higher than the married. Approximately 80% of them are graduates of nursing schools and nursing colleges. They are mostly in service for one to three years. There is no significant difference between the two groups. 2. The number of those who want to work at oriental medicine wards represents 40.3% against 58.4%, being in favor of general wards. 3. The reason for service at oriental medicine wards is that "there is room for potential research" which happened to rank first, followed by "easy job," "good working atmosphere" and "growing interest in oriental medicine." 4. Work satisfactions among nurses who work at oriental medicine wards prove greater than that of nurses who work at general wards. 5. Work satisfaction between the two groups by work factors is reflected with significant difference statistically on task requirement, interaction and doctor-nurse relationships. 6. The general charcateristics and the work satisfaction by work factors prove that there are significant difference in age, marital status, education and the period of work. They tend to be more satisfied with the work as they grow in age. Significant differneces are found in the work factors such as autonomy, adiministration and professional job in the relationship with doctor-nurse. As to marital status, the married are more satisfied than the unmarried. There are significant differneces in the factors respecting administration and doctor-nurse college graduates are highly satisfied with task requirement. However, satisfaction with the professional level has proven the highest degree for those having master degree. The period of work and satisfaction : There are significant differneces in task requirement, administration, interactions, professional level and doctor-nurse relationships. As a general rule, the degree of satisfactions is in proportion to the lengrh of service. The following conclusions are drawn based on the fndings mentioned above. Even though the work satisfaction of the nurse who work at oriental medicine ward is relatively high, it is desired that personal consultation be given as to disposition of nurses when they are assigned to oriental medicine wards. It is also recommended that lectures on oriental medicine be conducted through supplementary training and/or basic nursing course in order that they may be motivated for ingenious activities with an increasing sense of self-esteem which will eventually enhance positive changes for the patients who are in need of oriental medicine nursing and for the medical teams. In addition, joint reseaches involvingclinical care and education should be in constant process for unique and scientific development for those who are subject to oriental medicine nursing care.

Evaluation of Government Assisted Visiting Nursing Services of Health Center in 2000 (2000년 보건소 공공근로 방문간호사업 평가)

  • This study is a fact-finding research to understand the status of visiting nursing services operated by health centers in Korea and it aims to provide basic information for policy development on operation and management of visiting nursing services in health centers. Method: This study investigates the results of visiting nursing services in 242 health centers from Jan. 10 through Dec. 30, 2000, where 3,106 visiting nurses were employed by the public work program. Result: In 2000, 129,401 new household as service recipients was identified and that was 0.9% of Koreas total households (15,137,000), and 5.8% of low income households (2,242,000). The highest high risk group was dementia patients(aver. 55.2/1,000 person). Average number of households visited by visiting nurse were 4.5 households per day and the first-visited houses per visiting nurse were 1.1 households per day. The re-visiting rate was 71.3%. Total 4,059,130 service items were provided and assessment ranked the highest with 33.7%. The satisfaction level of clients on the nurses was an average of 3.17 points in the scale of 4 and the nursing service was a 2.60 points in a scale of 3. Conclusion: Visiting nursing service should continue to provide comprehensive healthcare services in cost-effective ways while cooperating with others

Factors Affecting Burnout of Staff in Emergency Medical Service (Focusing on 119 rescuers in Busan and Gyeongnam) (응급의료종사자의 소진 영향요인 (부산, 경남 지역 119구급대원 중심으로))

  • Purpose: This study aims to investigate the degree of burnout of 119 rescuers, to determine factors influencing their burnout, and to provide basic data for development of intervention programs to prevent the burnout. Methods: Subjects of this study were all 119 rescuers working at fire stations located in Busan and Gyeongnam. The data were collected from May 1, 2010 to June 30, 2010. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 17.0. Results: When the difference in the degree of burnout by general characteristics was investigated, the means of burnout were significantly different depending on age, period of service, position, license, annual salary, desire to work continuously and types of working hours. Job stress, job satisfaction, social support, self efficacy and self esteem showed a statistically significant correlation with burnout. The degree of burnout became higher with more job stress and lower job satisfaction, social support, self efficacy and self esteem. As a significant factor affecting the degree of burnout of 119 rescuers, job stress showed 47.3% of explanatory power. The explanatory power of all of job stress, job satisfaction, self efficacy, types of working hours, annual salary and license was 62% and the power of job stress was the highest. Conclusion: From these results, job stress, job satisfaction and self-efficacy were found to be factors affecting the burnout of 119 rescuers. Therefore, intervention programs to reduce job stress and to improve job satisfaction, social support, self efficacy and self esteem should be developed to lower the degree of burnout of 119 rescuers. In addition, further researches to analyze works of 119 rescuers and legal and institutional strategies to improve their treatment are necessary and supplementary training in various practices by different circumstances based on standardized protocols should be conducted.

Relationship between Delegation Preparedness and Job Satisfaction of Nurses in Comprehensive Nursing Care Service Units (간호·간병통합서비스병동 간호사의 위임준비성과 직무만족 간의 관계)

  • This study examined the relationship between delegation preparedness and job satisfaction in comprehensive nursing care service wards. Data were collected from 126 nurses who had been working in the comprehensive nursing care wards of five general hospitals located in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, from May 26 to June 7, 2017. Data were analyzed using independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficients. The delegation education showed a significant difference in delegation preparedness (t=-2.77, p=.006). A statistically significant positive correlation was observed between delegation preparedness and job satisfaction (r=.43, p<.001). Job satisfaction was significantly correlated with understanding the task (r=.26, p=.003), delegation of the task classification (r=.45, p<.001), understanding the delegation (r=.35, p<.001), and delegation skill (r=.34, p<.001), which are the sub-domains of delegation preparedness. Delegation preparedness was correlated significantly with interactions (r=.46, p<.001), task requirement (r=.36, p<.001), professional status (r=.33, p<.001), administration (r=.31, p<.001), and pay (r=.20, p=.026), which are sub-domains of job satisfaction. These results highlight the need for schools and clinical settings to provide continuous education to improve the delegation preparedness for nurses in comprehensive nursing care wards.

Factors that Affect Employee Satisfaction according to Hospital Size and Job Group (병원규모 및 직종별 종업원 만족도 영향요인)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the factors that affect employee satisfaction according to hospital size, job group and career at hospitals. Methods : Data were collected from 4,307 employees working at 5 university hospitals. Statistics were done with the SPSS program version 21.0. Results : There were significant differences in employee satisfaction according to hospital size, job group and career. Additionally, there were positive correlations between each of the factors for employee satisfaction and overall employee satisfaction. Multiple regression analysis showed that overall employee satisfaction was affected by factors such as job, communication, personnel and leadership according to hospital size, job group and career. Conclusions : The results of this study suggest that by identifying the differences in satisfaction of employees who are working in different circumstances and providing resources to satisfy employee needs, hospital employers can promote the growth of the hospital by reducing employee turnover.

Effects of Nurses' Resilience, Job Satisfaction, and Social Support on Organizational Commitment (간호사의 회복탄력성, 직무만족, 사회적 지지가 조직몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of nurses' resilience, job satisfaction, and social support on organizational commitment. Methods : The data were collected from August 25, 2017 to September 5, 2017 by distributing a questionnaire to 195 nurses. The measures in this study included resilience, job satisfaction, social support, and organizational commitment. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVAs, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and a hierarchical multiple linear regression using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results : There were significant correlations among resilience, job satisfaction, social support, and organizational commitment. The factors that significantly influenced nurses' organizational commitment were job satisfaction (β=0.599, p<.001), type of work (β=0.190, p=.007), and pay satisfaction (β=0.170, p=.002). Conclusions : In order to increase organizational commitment, it is necessary to create a systematic program that enhances nurses' job satisfaction with their type of work and pay satisfaction.

Nutting Services Positioning Analysis far Nursing Services Repositioning (간호서비스 리포지셔닝을 위한 간호서비스 품질분석)

  • Recently, the hospitals in Korea has positively changed one way or another. Therefore hospital managers must focus on the nurses' role in terms of consumers' perception of overall image of hospitals and the degree of satisfaction of the consumers. To achieve the purposes, the questionnaire was developed and distributed to 280 people who had a direct experience with nursing services subjected hospitals in Seoul at the time of screening. Among them, 229 responses were turned out to be useful and used for final analysis. The measurement instrument for hospital nursing service quality evaluation was modified from the SERVQUAL model originated from Parasuraman, Zeithaml, and Berry (1988). For data analysis, SPSS/PC and PC-MDS program were used. The results were as follows : 1) The perception map showed that the seven subjected hospitals were divided into three groups. It could be interpreted that the hospitals in the same group had a strong competitive relationships. Because the nursing services' scores of hospitals C and E were higher than those of other hospitals, they could be served as a benchmark for the other hospitals. 2) The marketing place of hospital nursing services was divided by four. Since service generally had a strong point in nearby service market segment. Aiming an nearby hospital nursing services market segment by the hospital nursing services department was regarded as a good repositioning strategy. 3) When consumers evaluated the quality of hospital nursing services, they were greatly affected by the hospitals' overall image or other characteristics. Therefore, for improving hospital's nursing services, hospital nursing services department requires a great deal of labor to improve hospitals' overall image or other characteristics.

A Study on the Differences of Perception between Consumers and Providers about Nursing Service Quality, and the Usefulness of Tools Measuring Nursing Service Quality (간호서비스 질에 대한 지각차이 및 측정도구에 관한 연구)

  • Service quality is, unlike goods quality, an abstract and elusive term. However, quality is very important to marketers and consumers in that it has many strategic benefits in contributing to profitability of marketing activities and consumers' problem-solving activities. The main purpose of this study is 1) to explore the differences of perception between consumers and providers about nursing service quality. 2) to identify the useful tool between two tools measuring nursing service quality. To achieve these purposes of the study, the questionnaire was developed and distributed to 210 nurses who worked at seven subjected hospitals in Seoul. Also, 280 people who had a direct experience with the subjected hospital nursing services at the time of screening were involved. They were randomly selected at the seven subjected hospitals during August to September of 1998. Among them, 165 responses from nurses and 229 responses from others resulted in worthy finds. The measurement instrument for a nursing services quality evaluation was modified from the SERVQUAL model originated from Parasuraman, Zeithaml, and Berry (1988). The reliability coefficient of the scale was calculated and showed high degree of internal consistency (Cronbachs' Alpha = .9353). For data analysis, SPSS/PC was used for descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and regression analysis. The results were as follows : 1) In the perception about nursing services quality, there were gap between consumers and providers. Especially the critical attributes in point of perception nursing services quality, naming satisfy, hygiene and performance factors, are very different contents. 2) In the comparison analysis of the usefulness tools it was turned out that SEVPERF model is more appropriate than SERVQUAL model. And in the analysis to identify the construct validity of the tool, it is turned out that the relationship between the constructing factors of the tool and the general satisfaction is significant.

  • For the purpose of investigating the job implementation of industrial health nurses catch hold of satisfaction, relational character of influence. A questionnaire survey was carried out on 131 nurses who employed at the manufacture of electronic products(27.1%), distribution industry(38%), service station(22%), construction(10%), et cetra The tool of this study was modified as completed from kang's(l991) checklist of questions were composed of the performance of nurses' duty(13 items), the factor of main influential character of nurses' job(11 items), job satisfaction(26 items). The results were as follows. 1. Industrial health nurses worked to labor follow up study after physical examination(100%), medication(97.1%), workers regular physical examination(95.5%), dressing(94.1%). 2. The factor of influence of job performance were personal relation(100%), satisfaction of nurses job performance(86.7%), environment of workplace(86.7%). 3. A period of long work experienced nurses felt the highest satisfaction as 3.44 point.
