Methods: The participants were 133 elderly people dwelling in a community. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and Stepwise multiple regression with SPSS. Results: The predictors of quality of life in the elderly were depression, physical symptoms, and social support. Depression and physical symptoms had a significant negative correlation with HRQoL and social support had a significant positive correlation with HRQoL. Among them, depression was shown as the most significant predictor of HRQoL in the elderly ($R^2$=.573, p<.001). Conclusion: These results indicate that strategies to relieve depression should be integrated in interventions to improve the QoL of older adults dwelling in a community residence.

  • Purpose. The purpose of this study was to obtain a clearer understanding of spirituality and examine the process of spirituality through defining the meaning and attributes of spirituality. Method. Concept analysis was done in the three phases, theoretical phase, fieldwork phase, and analytical phase suggested in the Hybrid Model. Five people participated in the fieldwork phase. Results. Spirituality is activated through self-awareness which occurs as spirit being activated through self-introspection, and through restoration of the relationship with Supreme Being. This interconnectedness with Supreme Being has an absolute impact on one's harmonious interconnectedness with self and neighbors, thus leads all the critical attributes of spirituality to be revealed. The core energy of this harmonious inter-connectedness is love. When activated, it has a great impact on an individual as integrative energy, leads one to go beyond everyday experience as well as to have new perspectives, and to live a satisfactory life in every aspect. Conclusion. The results of this study suggest that promotion of connectedness is the most important element in spiritual nursing interventions. The results can also be used effectively in developing spirituality assessment scales and theory.

The Stone means the adherence factors in exercise. The stream means the interrupting factors in exercise adherence. The subcategories were 1) feeling of developmental crisis, 2) searching for exit (from the developmental crisis), 3) finding a surprising new world (full of fun), 4) confronting the situation of dropout, and 5) adherence to exercise by SSAS. Conclusion: The predisposition of fun in middle aged women for the adherence of exercise should be explored along with more adherent factors.

  • Today interdisciplinary collaboration is an important component of clinical research. This paper focuses on how the University of Washington School of Nursing (UW-SON) Center for Women's Health and Gender Research (CWHGR) facilitated and sustained interdisciplinary research. The CWHGR funded by National Institutes of Nursing Research has been an important resource for the UW-SON since its inception in 1989. The CWHGR encourages interdisciplinary collaborative research by providing small grant funds, mentoring faculty and pre- and postdoctoral fellows, providing consultation to researchers in other disciplines, and creating a model of biobehavioral and sociocultural research collaboration that facilitates interdisciplinary research. A brief overview of the UW-SON CWHGR is provided as well as identification of barriers to interdisciplinary research.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to verify the educational effectiveness of the Objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) module development activities on nursing students in the areas of performance skill, knowledge, self-directed learning readiness, and problem solving ability for medication skill. Methods: This study was a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized post-test design. The subjects (N=47), who agreed to participate in this study, were assigned to either the experimental (n=24) or control group (n=23). The experimental group was trained with OSCE module development activities for four days. The control group was trained with a traditional demonstration and practice class for the same amount of time as the experimental group. Medication performance skill and knowledge tests and surveys were done to measure self-directed learning readiness, and learning satisfaction after the experimental treatments. Results: The experimental group which participated in the OSCE module development activities showed significantly higher performance skill, self-directed learning readiness, and problem solving ability for skin test and insulin medication than that of the control group of traditional education. Conclusion: It is recommended to use the OSCE module development activities for nursing students in nursing education-learning in order to improve nursing skills.
