Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify essential global health competencies for undergraduate nursing students in Korea. Methods: This study used a mixed methods design including an online survey with a convenient sample of 223 nursing educators, followed by an expert discussion with four nursing educators with expertise in global health. The global health competency was measured using the Global Health Competencies for Nurses in the America, which consists of 30 competencies in 6 domains. Each competency was measured by a 4-point Likert Scale, with at least 80% of 3 or 4 point scores indicating consensus that competency was considered essential for undergraduate nursing students. Results: Nursing educators most strongly agreed the competencies of the Social and Environmental Determinants of Health domain as essential global health competencies for nursing students. A total of 21 items in 5 out of 6 competency domains were initially identified with at least 80% agreement. Finally, the experts decided on 24 global health competencies through the revision and integration of several competencies. Conclusion: The findings indicate that nursing educators perceived that nursing students need to be prepared for responding to emerging global health needs. The proposed list of global health competencies can provide guidance to develop a framework for integrating global health into undergraduate nursing curriculums.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate clinical nurses' perception on nursing managerial competencies. Methods: This was a descriptive study. The data were collected from 198 nurse managers who had worked in six general hospitals using a self-reporting questionnaire. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Importance-Performance Analysis. Results: Only 32% of the participants had experienced nursing managerial competency training. The mean score for perceived performance of nursing managerial competency was lower than that for perceived importance. There were significant differences in perceived importance, performance, and importance-performance gaps among head, charge, and staff nurses. Importance-performance analysis showed that three of the 30 nursing managerial competencies require further development: staffing, human resources development and education, and nursing standard development competency. There were significant differences in importance-performance gaps according to age, career years in current hospital, work shift, position, nursing delivery system, and nursing managerial competency-education experience. Conclusion: A training program for developing and improving nursing managerial competencies which is focused on the gaps in importance and performance level is needed for clinical nurses. In addition, it should be considered to improve nursing work conditions such as nursing delivery system and formal appointment in order to increase the performance of nursing managerial competencies.
The purpose of this study was to develop a disaster nursing competency scale for nursing students. 23 preliminary items were selected by classifying 44 disaster nursing core concepts extracted via literature review. Content validity was done by expert panel. In order to verify the reliability and validity of the preliminary instrument, data were collected from 270 nursing students in 2 colleges of nursing in Korea. One factor 11 items in disaster nursing skills and one factor 11 items in disaster nursing knowledges were extracted by factor analysis. This instrument may be useful to identity a disaster nursing competency and its related factors for nursing students.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify trends of nursing research on disaster for nursing students in Korea through a systematic review. Methods: A systematic review was conducted across international and domestic electronic databases, and 13 of 506 studies were identified for this review. Results: The most commonly used variables in the study were 'disaster nursing competency (23.5%)' and 'disaster awareness (20.6%)'. In addition, the major factors influencing the disaster nursing competency of nursing students were analyzed as 'disaster preparedness'. However, many tools were developed for the needs of researchers rather than those that were sufficiently valid and reliable. Also, most studies did not use the theoretical framework. Conclusion: There is necessary to develop an instrument with confirmed reliability and validity to measure disaster nursing competency of nursing students. Finally, disaster education and research should be conducted based on the theoretical framework to enhance the disaster nursing competency of nursing students.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to describe competency in evidence-based practice (EBP) among clinical nurses and to explore critical thinking disposition (CTD) and organizational culture (OC) as possible predictors for competency in EBP. Also this study was conducted to identify baseline data for purpose of developing evidence-based OC to ensure safety of patients and to improve quality of nursing services in clinical setting. Methods: With a descriptive correlation study design, a competency in EBP questionnaire was administered to a convenience sample of nurses (N=393) from a single general hospital in Gyeonggi Province. Results: The overall mean score for competency in EBP was $3.03{\pm}0.53$. Factors influencing competency in EBP were education (${\beta}=0.23$, p<.001), attendance at lectures on EBP (${\beta}=0.18$, p<.001), intellectual eagerness & healthy skepticism (${\beta}=0.27$, p<.001) among CTD, and hierarchy-oriented OC (${\beta}=0.14$, p=.005), which explained about 35% of the total variance. Conclusion: Critical thinking and competency in EBP should be part of nursing education especially for undergraduate students as well as strengthening clinical practice by activation of EBP. The results of this study that hierarchy-oriented OC, is a significant predictor for competency in EBP is difficult to accept. Its seemed to require further exploration.
