Purpose: In accordance with changes in the healthcare environment, it is necessary to understand managerial cost accounting for nurses. This study aimed to develop educational components of managerial cost accounting for nurses. Methods: This study is comprised of a comprehensive literature review, nominal group technique using focus group interview, audit by an expert group, and priority analysis. Results: The comprehensive literature review identified 15 educational components of managerial cost accounting. In the nominal group technique, the participants finally agreed on eight educational components of managerial cost accounting for nurses. The average content validity index of these components was 0.99. "Activity-based costing" scored the highest for relative importance (15.7%). Conclusions: These results can be used to develop an education program to strengthen nurses' managerial cost accounting competencies. Furthermore, it will be helpful to use a basis for the development of cost management curricula for nursing students and on-the-job training courses of nurse managers and executives.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the methodological quality of nursing studies using structural equation modeling in Korea. Methods: Databases of KISS, DBPIA, and National Assembly Library up to March 2014 were searched using the MeSH terms 'nursing', 'structure', 'model'. A total of 152 studies were screened. After removal of duplicates and non-relevant titles, 61 papers were read in full. Results: Of the sixty-one articles retrieved, 14 studies were published between 1992 and 2000, 27, between 2001 and 2010, and 20, between 2011 and March 2014. The methodological quality of the review examined varied considerably. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that more rigorous research is necessary to address theoretical identification, two indicator rule, distribution of sample, treatment of missing values, mediator effect, discriminant validity, convergent validity, post hoc model modification, equivalent models issues, and alternative models issues should be undergone. Further research with robust consistent methodological study designs from model identification to model respecification is needed to improve the validity of the research.
Purpose: The purpose of this study aimed to describe the empathy and cultural competence and to find the relationship between the empathy and cultural competence in Korean nursing students. Methods: A total of 276 nursing students participated in this study. Data collection was conducted through the use of questionnaires which were constructed to include an Interpersonal Reaction Index, the Caffrey Cultural Competence in Healthcare scale, and Cultural Competence Assessment. Results: Empathy and cultural competency of participants in this study were shown to have moderate levels (Empathy: M=3.5, SD=0.41; Cultural competency: M=2.7, SD=0.42). And the nursing students who exhibited more frequent interaction with foreigners and willing to have multicultural education were found to have significantly higher empathy and cultural competence. There was a significant positive correlation between empathy and cultural competency(r=.189, p<.001). Purpose: This study was conducted to design and implement a fundamental nursing practice based on flipped learning and to examine the effects. Methods: Participants were 57 students who were taking the fundamental nursing practice course at D university in N city. The study included processes of instructional design, action/effects and reflection. Data were analyzed using paired t-test with the SPSS/WIN 23.0. Results: In the instructional design stage, the class consisted of 3 parts: outside class (pre-learning), inside class (assessment, collaborative practice, peer review, reflection), after-class (self-directed practice, feedback). In the action/effects stage, the flipped learning was applied for 15 weeks according to the instructional design and then the effects of flipped learning were evaluated. Students showed a significant improvement in self-directed learning ability (t=-3.56, p=.001) and critical thinking disposition after the class (t=-3.72, p<.001). Finally, in the reflection stage, the researchers examined whether the four pillars of flipped learning occurred. Conclusion: Findings indicate that flipped learning applied in fundamental nursing practice is effective in improving self-directed learning ability and critical thinking disposition. The action research method was a useful way to foster professor's educational competency as well as to verify effects of a new nursing education method.

This study aims to develop some guidelines on visiting nursing services for the management of hypertension patients at home in the rural areas of Korea. Firstly, in-depth interviews were given to the eight staff in charge of visiting nursing services in the rural health centers from June 1, 1999 to August 30, 1999. And then, their five patients with hypertension were under participatory observation. At the same time, literature review was conducted. Through those methods, some preliminary items were derived and the initial guidelines were drawn up. They were referred to ten experts, so that their validity was tested with Delphi Technique. Through the verification of their validity, they were complemented into the final ones. The total number of the items in the final guidelines was 22. By areas, they could be categorized as follows; eight items as skilled nursing care, five as general nursing care, three as guidance for diet, two as guidance for exercise, one as hospice care, and one as connection with social welfare services. Caring is an essential element of nursing. In a family with a patient. a critical situation may happen not only for the patient but also for the members of the family. Therefore, a caring service from the healthcare providers can also be requested for the family members. The movie 'Mabin's Room' deals with family problems. In this study, the assessment, problem, diagnosis and planning for the family nursing situation for family problems were made focusing on the role of characters in the movie 'Mabin's Room'. Regarding family nursing intervention, the framework of the story 'Mabin's Room' was reorganized to solve the problems based on the role of community health nurse. In this scenario approach method, the situation in the movie is used without change but the scenario related to the roles (or communication) of community health nurse for solving the family problems is added. It is a problem solving oriented method by reorganizing the scenario in a movie story situation. The reorganized scenario in this study is just an example of scenario approach method. Community Health Nurses can cultivate their creativity by solving various problems in the community by adopting or modifying this simple scenario in practice.
