  • Purpose: This study used a descriptive investigative design to identify educational needs for developmental supportive care for the purpose of establishing a developmental supportive care education program for nurses in neonatal intensive care units. Methods: A survey was conducted on 93 nurses working in neonatal intensive care units located in a metropolitan area, and the collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired t-test with the SPSS 25.0 program. For the purpose of analyzing educational needs, we further analyzed data through an importance-performance analysis (IPA) and the Borich needs assessment and the locus for focus models. Results: The average importance of the developmental supportive care of nurses in neonatal intensive care units was 3.74±0.78 out of 5, and the average performance was 3.46±0.81 out of 5. A t-test on the difference between the IPA and Borich needs assessment showed the highest educational need in the categories of 'individualized care', and 'I serve on the Developmental Care Committee at my institution'. In addition, according to the results of deriving the priorities of educational needs using the Borich needs assessment and the locus for focus model, the highest priority was 'I provide appropriate pain management when noxious procedures are necessary'. Conclusion: These findings can be used as basic data to design a developmental supportive care program suitable for nurses in neonatal intensive care units to meet the educational needs for developmental supportive care.

Data were analyzed using SPSS statistics 21. Results: The average ofdizziness knowledge score was 57.66± 23.75 (range 0-100) and educational need was 3.55 ± .47(range 0-5). There were significant differences in dizziness knowledge according to age (p< .001), working unit (p< .001), career duration (p< .001), change experience of unit (p< .001), dizziness patient care experience and participation in dizziness education (p< .001). There was positive correlation between knowledge of dizziness and the need for dizziness education (r= .26 p< .001). Conclusion: Results of this paper indicate that a dizziness education program is urgently needed for clinical nurses. Such a program should be seriously considered based on our results.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different methods of information delivery(information provided by nurses vs. information provided by video) on environmental stress and the satisfaction of nursing needs in families of intensive care unit patients. Methods: A nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design was used in this study. The data were collected from March 24 to May 7, 2009. The subjects, 52 family members of ICU patients (26 for the control group, 26 for the experimental group), were selected from a hospital located in Gyeonggido. Information was given by video to the experimental group whereas the information was directly given by nurses to the control group. Results: Environmental stress and satisfaction of nursing needs were not statistically different between the two groups. Conclusion: The findings of the study suggest that the information given by video may be compatible with that given by nurses. Therefore, nurses need to be flexible in using these different methods to maximize the benefits of direct and indirect information delivery method for families in ICU setting.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the levels of knowledge and performance confidence of, and educational needs on ostomy care among nurses in long-term care hospitals. Methods: The participants were 97 nurses from D and C cities. Data were collected from September 6~26, 2019, with self-reported questionnaires including general characteristics, knowledge and performance confidence of, and educational needs on ostomy care. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVAs, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The correct rate of knowledge of ostomy care was 60.1%. In addition, performance confidence of ostomy care was low, while educational needs on ostomy care were high. The knowledge of ostomy care was identified as a factor influencing in educational needs on ostomy care (β=-0.69, p<.001). It explained 42.0% of the variation in educational needs on ostomy care.
