  • The objectives of this study wre to investigate the effects of two synthetic pyrethroids, bifenthrin(BF) and permethrin(PM), in runoff and to evaluate the effects of suspended solids (SS) in the transport of pyrethroid along the drainage channel. Monitoring of BF and PM was conducted with the runoffs as well as in sediments existing along the drainage channel at a nursery site located in southern California, USA. This study also suggests Best Management Practices (BMPs) to alleviage the pollution caused by heavy usage of pyrethroid insecticides at nursery sites. Due to a high affinity to solid particles of pyrethroid insecticides, the concentrations of BF and PM were proportional to the SS contents along the drainage channel. This study suggests that alleviation of pyrethroids existing in runoffs could be controlled by the removal of suspended solids in runoffs and potential implications of current drainage channels for mitigation of pesticides associated with runoffs.

  • This paper describes the standardization of remote monitoring and controlling system for nursery electrical facilities. The proposed system have three operating modes of motoring, controlling, and fault-notifying. In fault-notifying mode, the local unit is designed to send messages on failure of the electrical facilities to the central computer, mobile phone, and pager. Also, the local unit is consisted of 24-input and 8-output port needed for monitoring and controlling the facilities. With the use of this standardized system, we could expect the effective management in every phase of nursery facilities.

  • Five species of the genus Pythium were identified from 91 isolates which were collected from rice seedlings in machine transplanting nursery boxes and paddy fields in Korea. They included P. graminicola complex, P. monospermum complex, P. rostratum complex, and P. ultimum complex. The most frequently found species of the genus Pythium was P. graminicola complex followed by P. monospermum complex. Rice seed germinability was greatly decreased by being infested with P. graminicola complex at nursery box. P. graminicola complex was the most virulent in terms of prohibiting germinations and stunting plants in nursery boxes.

  • Iridovirus is an icosahedral cytoplasmic double-stranded DNA virus with a genome size of 170-200kb. Outbreaks of fish iridovirus infection are characterized by their wide geographic distribution and broad host spectrum, especially in water temperatures of $25-27^{\circ}C$ Recently, the causative agent of high mortalities in flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) was identified as fish iridovirus in Korea. Iridoviral infection repeatedly occurs in the same area for long periods, suggesting the possibility of viral infection in nursery. To examine this, the existence of iridovirus in juvenile flounders was detected by PCR using virus-specific primers. Antibodies induced against this virus were also examined using ELISA. As a result, juvenile fish in nursery were found to be previously infected with iridovirus, suggesting that proper prevention systems are required.

  • The effects of token and social reinforcement on inappropriate study behaviors of nursery school children were investigated. The subjects were three nursery school boys, and the target behaviors were : 1) out-of-seat behaviors, 2) bothering other children, and 3) disruptive behaviors. The ABAB(Reversal) design was used in this experiment. It consisted of four periods : baseline, reinforcement I, reversal, and reinforcement II. During the reinforcement period, social reinforcement as well as token reinforcement was applied. In all three subjects, inappropriate study behaviors decreased during the reinforcement periods (I, II), and increased during the reversal period, showing the effects of token and social reinforcement. The subjects showed stability in three post-experimental tests, indicating that modification of inappropriate study behaviors was being maintained.

  • A more comprehensive analytical framework for examining the relative merits of alternative dispatching process policies for nurseries is developed in this paper. The efficiency of the dispatch process of plants in a nursery is analysed using a vehicle routing model. The problem then involves determining in what order each vehicle should visit its locations. The problem is NP-hard. Several heuristic techniques are used to solve a real life nursery sequencing problem. The results obtained by these heuristic techniques are compared with each other and the current sequencing of orders. The model with some minor alterations can be also used to minimise the dispatching and collecting process in different agricultural plants.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of nursery period on growth and yield attribute of green papaya (var. Red lady). The nursery period was 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13 months and the green papaya was transplanted on 15 April, 2015 in a non-heated greenhouse. The plant height, node number and fresh weight of nursery plant were increased as the nursery periods increased. The growth of green papaya with 13 months nursery period was better than those of other treatments. First harvest after transplanting was increased as the nursery periods were shorten. It took 137 days (18 August) at 13 months treatment, and 184 days (2 October) at 3 months treatment. The fruit length and diameter were smallest at 3 months treatment and there was no significant difference among other treatments. The fruit yield was also influenced by the nursery periods, the commercial yield was also increased as the nursery periods increased. The commercial yield was highest at 13 months treatment (3,172kg/10a), followed by 11 (2,247kg/10a) and 9 months treatment (2,357kg/10a). At 7 and 5 months treatment were 1,942kg/10a and 1,787kg/10a, respectively and the yield was lowest at 3 months treatment (1,443kg/10a). The commercial yield was significantly decreased under 7 months treatment. Although the harvest time of 11 months treatment was earlier than that of other treatments in non-heated greenhouse, 9 month treatment will be more recommendable for green papaya production because of operating costs.
