Objective: Despite the recommendation of the use of high-fidelity simulation (HFS) in interprofessional education (IPE), there is little known about its work for nursing students. Thus, this study aimed to explore nurse educators' perceptions and experiences in developing and implementing the HFS-based IPE for nursing and medical students. Methods: This study used a case study, using reflective filed notes. Results: Nursing educators perceived HFS as an effective educational approach to engaging nursing and medical students actively in interprofessional collaborative practice (ICP) experiences and in evaluating their actual performance on it. In terms of their perspectives on the elements necessary for effective HFS-based IPE, four themes were identified: collaborative learning, co-facilitating debriefing, leadership commitment and active faculty involvement.
The purpose of this study was to provide the basic sources for educational program that identifies moral judgement and ethical values of nursing students. The subjects consisted of 114 nursing students in college. Data were collected by the Korean Form of Moral Development Inventory(Shin, 1997) and Nursing Ethical Values(Lee, 1990) from March 5 to 21. 2002. The findings were as follows: 1. The mean score of the stage 5B was higher than the score of other stages. The mean score of P(%) was 39.15. No significant difference were found between P(%) and general characteristics. 2. The mean score of the nursing ethical values was 3.38. The nursing students took the position of deontology slightly. In nurse-colleague relationship area(4.22), the subjects should to taking evidently deontological position. 3. According to general characteristics, no significant difference was found except nurse-patient relationship area among subcategory of ethical values. The mean score of this area by influence person of moral development were significantly different at the .05 level. 4. The trend of subjects in action choices on 4 dilemmas of the DIT showed between-subjects variability. Action choices on 'Heinz and the drug', 'Doctor's dilemma', and 'webster' were 'pro' in most of subjects, whereas 'escaped prisoner' was 'con'. 5. The ethical values in human-life area associated with action choices on 'Heinz and the drug' was significantly different . And the nursing ethical values, human-life area, and nurse-nursing task relationship area were significantly different according to action choices on 'Doctor's dilemma'. 6. There was found little correlation between action choices on 4 dilemmas of the DIT and moral judgement. Also little correlation was shown between action choices on 4 dilemmas of the DIT and ethical values. No significant correlation were found between moral judgement and nurse ethical values.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship among calling, nurse's image, satisfaction in major, self-efficacy and nursing professionalism and to identify the predictors of nursing professionalism among nursing students. Methods: The research design for this study was a descriptive survey using convenience sampling. Data collection was done using online questionnaires completed by 358 nursing students in G city. The data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation analysis and hierarchical multiple regression with the SPSS Win 25.0 Program. Results: The mean score of nursing professionalism was 3.56±0.55 out of a possible 5. Nursing professionalism showed a significantly positive correlation with calling (r=.51, p<.001), nurse's image (r=.53, p<.001), satisfaction in major (r=.65, p<.001) and self-efficacy (r=.20, p<.001). In the hierarchical multiple regression analysis, satisfaction in major (β=.44, p<.001), nurse's image (β=.26, p<.001), calling (β=.21, p<.001), self-efficacy (β=.14, p=.002) and servable occupation (β=.15, p=.020) were significant predictors and explained 51% of nursing professionalism. Conclusions: The results of the study show factors that influence nursing professionalism in nursing students. Based on the results of the study, nursing professionalism education programs need to include factors that improve calling, nursing image, satisfaction in major and self-efficacy.
Purpose: This study developed a short-term education program aiming to strengthen global health capacity in nursing students, and examined the effects of the program. Methods: The subjects of this study were 83 students recruited from 29 nursing colleges. Domestic workshops and overseas training in the Philippines were offered. For data collection and analysis, the triangulation method was adopted. Results: Students' critical thinking disposition and global leadership capacity were significantly increased. Thematic content analysis derived fifteen themes: expansion of global health, understanding of cultural diversity, vision of being a global leader, cultivation of communication skills, open mind toward people with different culture, pride and vocation, understanding of nursing in foreign countries, understanding of visiting nurse service, sustainability, understanding of local needs and environments, and education methods with an emphasis on participants, broader view and thinking of the world, reflection on the characteristics of a nurse, development through cooperation, and development through programs. Conclusion: The global health capacity building program improved nursing students' view of global health and nursing care. It is needed to develop continuously diverse global health capacity-building programs for nursing students.
It is important for nurses to try to improve their interpersonal relationship and communication skill. The purpose of this study was to examine the nurse's inerpersonal conflict and expression with physicians, other nurses and patients & their caregivers. A convenient sample of 62 RN-BSN students were recruited. The data collection was done from August, 2001 to September, 2001. Nurses experienced the most conflicts with high-positioned nurses, then doctors, patients and their families, administrators, nurse-aid, nurse colleagues and lower-positioned nurses. There was a significant correlation between nurse's interpersonal conflict with doctors and nurse's age & career, between with high-positioned nurses and region of hospitals & nurse's position. The expression that nurses least-like from physicians was 'Do it as order'. From other nurses was 'manner of speech such like order'. And from patients and their family was 'naming such like young lady or sisters'. The other side, the expression that nurses most like expression from physicians and ohter nurses was 'You are excellent'. From patients and their family was 'You are kindness'. In conclusion, it is necessary to improve nurse's communication skills and interpersonal relationships.
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to understand the experiences of career exploration among nursing students during their clinical practice and to develop a theoretical framework for the career exploration process. Methods: From February 2 to 28, 2015, data were collected through focus group interviews from 24 participating fourth-year nursing students. The data were analyzed using grounded theory. Results: The central phenomenon of 'confusion between the ideal and the reality of nursing' occurred in contexts for various reasons of choosing one's major, nurses in the ideal, a vague fear of the field, arduous nursing assignments in the field, and severe adversity in the nursing field. Nursing students tried to deal with their confusion by using interaction strategies such as pursuing the intrinsic value of nursing, finding role models, trying to project oneself, and preparing for adapting to reality. The career exploration process in clinical practice was a voyage to discover the authentic nurse of the pre-registration nurse. Conclusion: This result shows that nursing students were to gain confidence in their career choices by finding the value of nursing and interacting with patients. Therefore, opportunities for learning experiences about interaction with patients and various positive experiences in clinical practice should be provided for nursing students.
Purpose: This study was designed to develop and evaluate the a web-based simulation program on patient rights education using integrated decision making model into values clarification for nurse students. Methods: The program was designed based on the Aless & Trollip model and Ford, Trygstad-Durland & Nelms's decision model. Focus groups interviews, surveys on learning needs for patient rights, and specialist interviews were used to develop for simulation scenarios and decision making modules. The simulation program was evaluated between May, 2011 and April, 2012 by 30 student nurses using an application of the web-based program evaluation tools by Chung. Results: Simulation content was composed of two scenarios on patient rights: the rights of patients with HIV and the rights of psychiatric patients. It was composed of two decision making modules which were established for value clarifications, behavioral objective formations, problems identifications, option generations, alternatives analysis, and decision evaluations. The simulation program was composed of screens for teacher and learner. The program was positively evaluated with a mean score of $3.14{\pm}0.33$. Conclusion: These study results make an important contribution to the application of educational simulation programs for nurse students' behavior and their decision making ability in protecting the patient rights.
Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the clinical learning environment, supervision and nurse teacher evaluation scale (CLES+T) that measures the clinical learning environment and the conditions associated with supervision and nurse teachers. Methods: The English CLES+T was translated into Korean with forward and back translation. Survey data were collected from 434 nursing students who had more than four days of clinical practice in Korean hospitals. Internal consistency reliability and construct validity using confirmatory and exploratory factor analysis were conducted. SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 22.0 programs were used for data analysis. Results: The exploratory factor analysis revealed seven factors for the thirty three-item scale. Confirmatory factor analysis supported good convergent and discriminant validities. The Cronbach's alpha for the overall scale was .94 and for the seven subscales ranged from .78 to .94. Conclusion: The findings suggest that the 33-items Korean CLES+T is an appropriate instrument to measure Korean nursing students'clinical learning environment with good validity and reliability.
