Background: The turnover rate of nurse aides in Taiwan is high. However, the predictors of turnover behavior in the newly employed are still unclear. Objective: To examine the predictors of turnover behavior in newly employed licensed nurse aides. Methods: A longitudinal study design was used and subjects were newly employed certified nurse aides from a nurse aid training association in Taiwan. A total of five questionnaire surveys were conducted. The questionnaire was mainly used to collect information on turnover behavior, personal socioeconomic background, workplace psychosocial hazards, worker health hazards, and musculoskeletal disorders. Results: A total of 300 participants were recruited in the study. Cox regression analysis results showed that short working experience (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.21, p < 0.01), work as non-home nurse aides (HR = 0.58, p = 0.01), low monthly salary (HR = 0.68, p < 0.01), high work mental load (HR = 1.01, p = 0.01), low workplace justice (HR = 0.97, p < 0.01), high workplace violence (HR = 1.60, p < 0.01), high burnout (HR = 1.01, p = 0.04), poor mental health (HR = 1.06, p = 0.04), and high total number of musculoskeletal disorder sites (HR = 1.08, p = 0.01) contribute to a higher risk of turnover. Conclusion: The results indicated that employment period, work as a home nurse aide, monthly salary, work mental load, workplace justice, workplace violence, work-related burnout, mental health, and total number of musculoskeletal disorder sites are predictors of turnover behavior in newly employed certified nurse aides.

Background: Emergencies in outpatient clinics are rare. However, potentially catastrophic events can be challenging to manage due to a variety of factors, including limited equipment and staff. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to improve the staff knowledge and familiarity with critical performance elements for emergencies encountered in the setting of a periodontics clinic. Methods: Emergency cognitive aids tailored to the clinic's resources were created for anaphylaxis, airway obstruction, and sublingual hemorrhage. The project pre-post-test repeated measures design evaluated the effectiveness of cognitive aids using a combination of hands-on simulation, written knowledge assessments, and self-efficacy surveys. Training sessions and simulations were provided to the clinic's existing care teams made up of a periodontist and two dental assistants with an anesthetist who was present for simulations involving sedation. Due to the small sample size (N = 14) and non-normal distribution, all metrics were evaluated using non-parametric statistics. Results: Significant improvements were found in knowledge assessment (-2.310, P = 0.021) and self-efficacy (-2.486, P = 0.013) scores when retention after a training session before and after the introduction of cognitive aid was compared. The mean simulation scores and times improved steadily or reached maximum scores during the project progression. Conclusion: Training sessions before and after cognitive aid introduction were effective in improving knowledge, self-efficacy, and simulation performance. Future projects should focus on validating the process for creating contextualized cognitive aids and evaluating the effectiveness of these cognitive aids in larger samples.

This study seeks to measure the level and root causes of occupational and interpersonal conflicts between nurses and nurse aids against hospital doctors, in order to help increase motivation of both groups in their workplace and enable more effective nursing care to patients. 271 nurses and nurse-aids working in small- and medium-sized hospitals were therefore given a series of surveys on topics such as conflicts with doctors, communications, cause of conflicts and solutions. Analysis of the survey result shows that both nurses and nurse-aids share relatively similar level and causes of conflicts in their place of work; however, nurse-aids felt more stress when their responsibilities seem to be duplicated or blurred from those of doctors and nurses. When conflicts actually occur with doctors, both groups would first try to avoid it one way or another. Then, nurses would make others cave in or file complaints through union, while nurse aides would seek help from supervisors or try to meet them half way.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data to develop first aid education programs for elementary school students. Method: A self-report questionnaire was used to collect data from 720 5th and 6th grade elementary school students. Results: 1) The mean score for cognition of first aid education of the students was high with a score of 2.64 $({\pm}.30)$. 2) The mean scores for the 11 categories were, "Fire & Burns", 2.78 $({\pm}.40)$, "Poisoning", 2.77 $({\pm}.47)$, "Thermal injuries", 2.75 $({\pm}.51)$, "Rescue & moving", 2.73 $({\pm}.37)$, "Bites", 2.72 $({\pm}.44)$, "General first aid", 2.64 $({\pm}.37)$, "Wounds", 2.59 $({\pm}.39)$, "Removing foreign bodies", 2.58 $({\pm}.46)$, "Cardiopulmonary resuscitation", 2.57 $({\pm}.59)$, and "Musculoskeletal injuries" and "Others", 2.54 $({\pm}.51,\;{\pm}.53)$. 3) There was a significant difference in the cognition of first aid education according to student's gender (t=-3.012, p=.003), and judgement about the emergency situation (F=3.411, p=.034). Conclusion: The results indicate the necessity of developing effective first aid education programs for elementary school students.
The purpose of the present research is to evaluate the therapeutic ingredients-empathy, warmth, and intimacy - as perceived by patient in the relationship with nurses during his hospitalization. "Relationship Questionnaire"developed by C. B. Truax during 1963 was administered from September 1976 to December 1976 to a sampling of 61 discharged patients, 20 were received by mail questionnaire, 19 were successfully interviewed by their doctor at a regular psychotherapy meeting, 22 were contacted by nurses or psychiatric residents at discharge day. Findings showed that 1) the total mean score of therapeutic ingredients of nurses was 9. 54 ; 2)the total mean score of empathy, warmth and intimacy was 10. 10, 9.57, and 9.00 : 3) there was the significant relationship between therapeutic ingredients and other variables-sex, education, number of admission, helpfulness ratings of admission and, present health condition- : 4) there was no significant. relationship between therapeutic ingredients as patient′s perception and age, duration of admission, or motivation of admission, or follow - up rare ; 5) there was no relationship among empathy, warmth and intimacy ; 6) tile ranking of the important psychiatric personnel who were marked as the helper at the treatment and understanding for patient′s recovery, was psychiatric doctor and nurse and then nurse student and then nurse aid.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the communication confidence, self-efficacy, and self confidence in first aid and to identify the predictors of self confidence in first aid. Subjects were 202 caregivers and data were collected by questionnaires from march 1 to 31, 2023. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson correlation coefficients and Multiple regression analysis using the SPSS 29.0 program. Self-efficacy was a positive correlation with communication confidence (r=.54, p<.001), and self confidence in first aid was a negative correlation with communication confidence(r=-.18, p<.05) and self-efficacy(r=-.31, p<.001). Predictive factors for self confidence in first aid were absence of nurse's aide(β=-.18, p=.009) and self-efficacy(β=-.30, p<.001), and explanatory power was 11.0%(Adj R2=.110, p<.001). Based on the results of this study, to develop and apply an educational program focusing on emergency problems.

With the increasing incidence of AIDS, it is probably inevitable that nurses working in hospital and community settings will come in contact with patients with AIDS. Nurses, more than any other health care profession, are on the front line of AIDS patient care. The purposes of this descriptive study were to gather information about registered nurses' knowledge and attitude regarding AIDS. and to provide a basis for the development of continuining education programs for the nurse. Data was gathered in 1988 using self-administered questionnaires given to a convinience sample of two hundred seventy registered nurses from two university hospitals, school nurses and postgraduate students of nursing. Data was analyzed with SAS. The results were as follows. Above 90% of the nurse knew well about definition of AIDS and routes of transmission but nurses relatively lacked knowledge about transmission of HIV in breast milk(69.3%). Less than half knew that drug abuser(44.1%) and sexual partner with IV drug abuser(39.6%) are at high risk for contracting AIDS. Above 70% of the nurse showed reluctance to provide care for surgery. delivery of child birth and hemodialysis of patients with AIDS. The results showed that, given a choice. 41.7% of the nurse would refuse to care for AIDS patients and 48.3% claimed that they should have a right refuse to care for AIDS patients. Reluctance of nursing patient with AIDS appeared to be principally associated with general fear of becoming infected with HIV. 41.8% exhibited a sympathetic attitude toward individual AIDS patient. The study findings suggest that it is necessary to examine the correlations between knowledge and attitude and to develop continuing education programs that alleviate the fear of contagion of the nurse.
Purpose : This study was conducted to investigate the extent to which the professional self concept between the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) and general nurse in psychiatric ward was comparable. The results were expected to provide basic data for developing the construct of professional self concept and making awareness of the importance of the program increasing professional self concept. Method : The subjects of this study were 227 PMHNP and 436 general nurse in psychiatric ward. The instruments used for this study were PSCNI by Arthur (1990), PSI by Heppner and Peterson(1982) and the index of work satisfaction by Slavitt et al.(1978). With the aid of the SAS, t-test. two-way ANOVA and stepwise multiple regression were conducted. Result : 1. The average item score of PSCNI of PMHNP was $2.82\pm0.27$. and that of general nurse was $2.66\pm0.27$. Statistically significant difference between two groups was found(p=0.0000) 2. There was statistically significant difference between two groups in the score of professional practice(p=0.0000), satisfaction(p=0.0024), leadersbip(p=0.0000) , flexibility(p=0.0000) and skill (p=0.0000). 3. Statistically significant differences between the two groups were observed in terms of age(p=0.0003), marital status(p=0.0001). education(p=0.0005), religion(p=-.0144), motive (P=-.0001), length of service as a nurse(p=0.0121), the length of service in psychiatric unit(p=0.0143). However there were no significant interaction effect with group and age, marital state. education, religion, motive, length of service as a nurse, length of service in psychiatric unit. 4. Job satisfaction (JS) and problem solving inventory score(PS) were found to be the highest factor predicting the professional self concept between the PMHNP and general nurse. JS and PS accounted for $43.4\%$ in the professional self concept of PMHNP, whereas PS, JS, age and religion accounted for $53\%$ in the professional self concept of general nurse in psychiatric ward. In conclusion, this study suggested that we need to develop programs and polices to increase the professional self concept of nurse, particularly of psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners.
Today's healthcare environment is changing, driven by demographic, environmental, social, political and technological forces. These rapidly changing healthcare environment and increasingly professional nursing practice indicate that identifying leadership characteristic of nursing leaders and executives is a vital importance in today's time and also mandate innovative leadership for nursing service. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examined the transformational, transactional leadership styles of the Nurse Administrators. Also described are the relationships between these leadership styles and the job satisfaction. the organizational commitment of their subordinates. The sample consisted of sixteen mid-level nurse administrators, fifty head nurses and one hundred aid fifty-three staff nurses of 4 public & private University Hospitals and 1 General Hospital. Data for this study was collected from Sep. 20 to Oct. 5 by Questionnaire(Bass' MLQ, Job Satisfaction scale developed by Paula(1978), Organizational Commitment scale by Peter et at(1979). The data was analyzed by frequency, percentage, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient with SPSS PC/sup +/ program. Major findings are as follows : Appropriate one-way ANOVA tests revealed that the differences for transformational and transactional leadership styles of nurse executives. mid-level nurse administrators, head nurses as perceived by their immediate subordinates were statistically significant(P<.05), The scores of transformational and contingent reward behaviors were declined of the mid-level nurse administrators, nurse executives. The transactional scores of nurse administrators were lower than trans- formational ones, which is a desirable findings. The result of this study, the head nurses were perceived as the highest transformational leader by their subordinates, and second was the mid-level nurse administrators. The nurse executives received the lowest transformational leadership scores from their subordinates. These results were opposit to the previous studies. And significant positive correlations were founded between transformational leadership including charisma, intellectual stimulation, individual consideration and contingent reward of nurse administrators and the job satisfaction, the organizational commitment of their subordinates. From the data, it can be concluded that transformational leadership style of nurse administrators promotes the job satisfaction, the organizational commitment of thier staff nurses. Therefore leader looks for potential motives in subordinates, seeks to satisfy higher need, and engages the full person of the subordinate resulting in a relationship of mutual stimulation and elevation.

Purpose: This study aimed to perform a concept analysis of quality nursing care. Methods: Walker and Avant's concept analysis method was used to carry out this study. Results: The defining attributes identified were as follows: caring, the nurse-patient relationship, and patient needs. Antecedents included patient characteristics, individual factors (age, education, knowledge, competence, and experience), job position, and environmental factors. The consequences of quality nursing care have significant influence on both patients and nurses. Conclusion: The findings can aid researchers in obtaining a better understanding of quality nursing care, and stakeholders can consider the factors related to quality nursing care and its consequences to improve the nursing process.
