Recently LED fish-attracting lamps have been more widely used in fisheries as low-cost and high-efficiency fishing gear, and development of long-life high-efficiency lamps is required through the design of LED packages to optimize heat resistance. This study developed an improved LED fish-attracting lamp with excellent heat performance, which was verified using a numerical model. Heat-resistance design factors such as the heat-radiation fin shape, PCB type, and LED chip count were investigated and optimized. Comparison with a commercial 180-W LED fishing lamp showed that the increase in initial temperature was 40% higher than that of the surrounding LED chip because of design errors in contact thermal resistance. The 250-W LED lamp developed in this study has a characteristic with thermal rising in linearly stable according to the heat source. In addition, luminance efficiency was improved by 20-65% by using flow-visualization simulation. A decrease of 45% in total power consumption with a fuel-cost reduction of over 55% can be expected when using these optimized heat release design factors.
The aim of this work is to investigate the spray and combustion characteristics of dimethyl-ether (DME) at various injection conditions. The spray characteristics such as spray tip penetration and spray cone angle were experimentally studied from the spray images which obtained from the spray visualization system. Combustion and emissions characteristics were numerically investigated by using KIVA-3V code coupled with Chemkin chemistry solver. From these results, it revealed that DME spray had a shorter spray tip penetration and wider spray cone angle than that of diesel spray due to the low density, low surface tension, and fast evaporation characteristics. At the constant heating value condition, DME fuel showed higher peak combustion pressure and earlier ignition timing, because of high cetane number and superior evaporation characteristics. In addition, the combustion of DME exhausted more $NO_x$ emission and lower HC emission due to the active combustion reaction in the combustion chamber. The result shows that DME had a little soot emission due to its molecular structure characteristics with no direct connection between carbons.

Small amplitude in-phase oscillations of multi-cylinders are considered both numerically and experimentally. Flow field is separated into inner and outer regions. The basic unsteady solution is obtained analytically and the secondary flow, termed as steady streaming flow, can be obtained numerically by using Finite Volume Code with Panel Method. The Particle Induced Velocimetry, one of whole field measurements, is introduced for comparison with numerical flow visualization quantitatively. Among the algorithms for PIV, the Three Step Vector Searching Technique is applied to reduce CPU time. Small but non-zero damping coefficient, that is important in lightly damped system can be obtained with varying number of bodies and distances.

The structural intensity analysis, which calculates the magnitude and direction of vibrational energy flow from vibratory velocity and internal force at any point of a structure, can give information on dominant transmission paths, positions of sources and sinks of vibration energy. This paper presents a numerical simulation system for structural intensity analysis and visualization to apply for ship structures based on the finite element method. The system consists of a general purpose finite element analysis program MSC/Nastran, its pre- and post-processors and an in-house program module to calculate structural intensity using the model data and its forced vibration analysis results. Using the system, the structural intensity analysis for a 4,100 TEU container carrier is carried out to visualize structural intensity fields on the global ship structure and to investigate dominant energy flow paths from harmonic excitation sources to superstructure at resonant hull girder and superstructure modes.

De-NOx facility using Selective Catalytic Reduction method is the most widely applied one that removes NOx from flue gas emitted from combustion facility such as boiler for power generation engine incinerator etc. Reductant $NH_3\;or\;NH_4OH$ is sprayed into flue gas to convert NOx into $H_2O$ and $N_2.$ Good mixing between flue gas and $NH_3$ is the most important factor to increase reduction in catalytic layer and to reduce unreacted NH3 slip. Therefore the development of mixer device for mixing effect is one of the important part for SCR facility. Objectives of this study are to investigate the relation between flow and concentration field by observation at the wake of delta-wing type mixer. At the first stage qualitative measurement of flow field is conducted by flow visualization using laser light sheet in lab. scale wind tunnel. Also we have conducted the quantitative analysis by comparing flow field measurement using LDV with numerical simulation. On the basis of qualitative and quantitative analysis we investigate the dis-tribution of flow and concentration in flow model facility. The results of an experimental and compu-tational examination of the vortex structures shed from delta wing type vortex generator having $40^{\circ}$ angle of attack are presented, The effects of vortex structure on the gas mixing is discussed, too.
Converging flows of a gas and a liquid at a microchannel cross junction, under proper conditions, can result in the formation of periodic, dispersed microslugs. This microslug formation phenomenon has been proposed as the basis for a fuel injection system in a novel, 'discrete' monopropellant microthruster designed for use in next-generation miniaturized satellites. Previous experimental studies demonstrated the ability to generate fuel slugs with characteristics commensurate with the intended application during steady-state operation. In this work, numerical and experimental techniques are used to study the effect of valve actuation on slug characteristics, and the results are used to compare with equivalent steady-state slugs. Computational simulations of a valve with a 1 ms valve-actuation cycle show that as the ratio of the response time of the valve to the fully open time is increased, transient effects can increase slug length by up to 17%. The simulations also demonstrate that the effect of the valve is largely independent of surface tension coefficient, which is the thermophysical parameter most responsible for slug formation characteristics. Flow visualization experiments performed using a miniature valve with a 20 ms response time showed less than a 1% change in the length of slugs formed during the actuation cycle. The results of this study indicate that impulse bit and thrust calculations can discount transient effects for slower valves, but as valve technology improves transient effects may become more significant.

The characteristics of complicated propeller wake influenced by hull wake are investigated by using a two-frame PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) technique. As the propeller is significantly affected by the hull wake in a real marine vessel, the measurements of propeller wake under the hull wake would be certainly necessary for more reliable validation and the prediction of numerical simulation with wake modeling. Velocity field measurements have been conducted in a medium-size cavitation tunnel with a hull wake. Generally, the hull wake generated by the boundary layer of ship's hull produces the different loading distribution on the propeller blade in both upper and lower propeller planes. The difference of the propeller wake behaviors caused by the hull wake is discussed in terms of axial velocity, vorticity and turbulence kinetic energy distribution in the present study.

The overall performance and local flow fields of the fan, heat sink, and fan-sink were experimentally and numerically studied to investigate the flow characteristics of a fan-sink. The flow resistance of the heat sink was measured by small fan tester based on AMCA standards and compared with the CFD results to select available cooling fan for the fan-sink. The nonuniform velocity profile behind the fan outlet was shown by the flow visualization. The effects of nonuniform velocities on the performance of heat sink were discussed. To validate the commercial CFD code CFX-5.6, the predicted performance curve was compared with that of fan testing. The local flow fields of the fan-sink were analyzed by CFD results. MFR (multiple frame of reference) was used as a computational model combining rotating fan and stationary heat sink. Through the CFD results of the fan-sink, the flow patterns behind the fan outlet influenced the flow resistance and overall performance of the heat sink.

In this paper, supersonic jets impinging on axisymmetric cone were investigated to obtain fundamental design data for jet deflector case of example being VTOL/STOL or rocket launch. It was of interest to study flow phenomena such as shock interactions and separation induced by shear layer. Experiments were conducted to obtain schlieren flow visualization and measurement of surface pressure. Numerical results are compared with the experimental result. The dominant feature of the flow is the shock pattern induced by the interaction between the cone shock and the barrel shock. This pattern can take a wide variety of forms depending on the structure of the free jet and strongly influences the form of the surface pressure distributions.

The examinations of the operating mechanism of an oscillating capillary tube heat pipe (OCHP) using the visualization method revealed that the working fluid in the OCHP oscillated to the axial direction by the contraction and expansion of vapor plugs. The contraction and expansion were due to the formation and extinction of bubbles in the evaporating and condensing part, respectively The actual physical mechanism, whereby the heat which was transferred in such an OCHP was complex and not well understood. In this study, a theoretical model of the OCHP was developed to model the oscillating motion of working fluid in the OCHP. The differential equations of two-phase flow were applied and simultaneous non-linear partial differential equations were solved. From the analysis of the numerical results, it was found that the oscillating motion Of working fluid in the OCHP was affected by the operation and design conditions such as the heat flux, the charging ratio of working fluid and the hydraulic diameter of flow channel. The simulation results showed that the proposed model and solution could be used for estimating the operating mechanism in the OCHP.
