The effects of the electrohydrodynamic (EHD) flow and turbulent diffusion on the collection efficiency of a model ESP composed of the plates with a cavity were studied through numerical computation. The electric field and ion space charge density were calculated by the Poisson equation of the electrical potential and the current continuity equation. The EHD flow field was solved by the continuity and momentum equations of the gas phase including the electrical body force induced by the movement of ions under the electric field. The RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ model was used to analyze the turbulent flow. The particle concentration distribution was calculated from the convective diffusion equation of the particle phase. As the ion space charge increased, the particulate collection efficiency increased because the electrical potential increased over the entire domain in the ESP. The collection efficiency decreased and then increased, i.e. had a minimum value, as the EHD circulating flow became stronger when the electrical migration velocity of the charged particle was low. However, the collection efficiency decreased with the stronger EHD flow when the electrical migration of the particle was higher relatively. The collection efficiency of the model ESP increased as the turbulent diffusivity of the particle increased when the electrical migration velocity of the particle was low. However, the collection efficiency decreased for increasing the turbulent diffusivity when the electrical migration of the particle was higher relatively.

The paper concerns Fuzzy C-Means clustering based fuzzy neural networks (FCM-FNN) and the optimization of the network is carried out by means of hierarchal fair competition-based parallel genetic algorithm (HFCPGA). FCM-FNN is the extended architecture of Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN). FCM algorithm is used to determine centers and widths of RBFs. In the proposed network, the membership functions of the premise part of fuzzy rules do not assume any explicit functional forms such as Gaussian, ellipsoidal, triangular, etc., so its resulting fitness values directly rely on the computation of the relevant distance between data points by means of FCM. Also, as the consequent part of fuzzy rules extracted by the FCM-FNN model, the order of four types of polynomials can be considered such as constant, linear, quadratic and modified quadratic. Since the performance of FCM-FNN is affected by some parameters of FCM-FNN such as a specific subset of input variables, fuzzification coefficient of FCM, the number of rules and the order of polynomials of consequent part of fuzzy rule, we need the structural as well as parametric optimization of the network. In this study, the HFCPGA which is a kind of multipopulation-based parallel genetic algorithms(PGA) is exploited to carry out the structural optimization of FCM-FNN. Moreover the HFCPGA is taken into consideration to avoid a premature convergence related to the optimization problems. The proposed model is demonstrated with the use of two representative numerical examples.

In this paper, a new parallel computation method, which fully utilize the parallel processors both in mesh generation and FEM calculation for 2D/3D process simulation, is presented. High performance parallel FEM and parallel linear algebra solving technique was showed that excessive computational requirement of memory size and CPU time for the three-dimensional simulation could be treated successively. Our parallelized numerical solver successfully interpreted the transient enhanced diffusion (TED) phenomena of dopant diffusion and irregular shape of R-LOCOS within 15 minutes. Monte Carlo technique requires excessive computational requirement of CPU time. Therefore high performance parallel solving technique were employed to our cascade sputter simulation. The simulation results of Our sputter simulator allowed the calculation time of 520 sec and speedup of 25 using 30 processors. We found the optimized number of ion injection of our MC sputter simulation is 30,000.

A multi-layer simulation program is developed to estimate the ocean current considering sea bottom geometry. The so-called $\sigma$ coordinate system is introduced in vertical direction to describe sea bottom topography more accurately and effectively. Leapfrog scheme combined with Euler backward scheme is used to reduce computation error which may be possibly accumulated in time evolution by Leapfrog scheme alone. In this paper, very simple examples of rectangular basins with various bottom geometries were taken and the effect of sea bottom geometry on vertical structure of the ocean tidal current and its direction were investigated. Through comparisons between the present three dimensional calculation in which bottom topography is directly taken into consideration and the two dimensional calculation in which depth average concept is employed, it was found that magnitude of surface current and its direction could be largely affected by the sea bottom topography, particularly in shallow region with complex bottom shape.
It is very important thing that the high tide prediction along the sea-side before the typhoon landing. In Korea, every year somewhere of the near sea-shore has been suffered much damages by the high tide during typhoon season, and the governement has to spend much of the reserved budget to rescue and reconstruction the damaged facilities in the seas-shore area. In this point of view, as none of the high tide prediction program in Korea, the author aims to develope this kind of study, so that this application program may dedicate the concerned organizations such as Ministry of Construction, Commerce and Industry, and Agriculture Forestry and Fishery, etc. Due to developed the software of high speed electronic computer in recently, the complicated numerical analysis can be solve very conviniently. So the author tries to prepare the high tide predecation program using the equation of motion and continous in the fluide dynamics by the constant time and distance of the differentation method. The input data for this program are the weather chart and depth data of the mattered bay, inner-sea or outer-sea. This program has been applied on the Pohan inner harbor as a model and find ort the program computation results is coincide with the observed values of "FRAN" typhoon in 1976 at the Pohang harbor.ng harbor.

The Horizon Run 4 is a cosmological N-body simulation designed for the study of coupled evolution between galaxies and large-scale structures of the Universe, and for the test of galaxy formation models. Using 63003 gravitating particles in a cubic box of Lbox = 3150 h−1Mpc, we build a dense forest of halo merger trees to trace the halo merger history with a halo mass resolution scale down to Ms = 2.7 × 1011h−1M⊙. We build a set of particle and halo data, which can serve as testbeds for comparison of cosmological models and gravitational theories with observations. We find that the FoF halo mass function shows a substantial deviation from the universal form with tangible redshift evolution of amplitude and shape. At higher redshifts, the amplitude of the mass function is lower, and the functional form is shifted toward larger values of ln(1/σ). We also find that the baryonic acoustic oscillation feature in the two-point correlation function of mock galaxies becomes broader with a peak position moving to smaller scales and the peak amplitude decreasing for increasing directional cosine μ compared to the linear predictions. From the halo merger trees built from halo data at 75 redshifts, we measure the half-mass epoch of halos and find that less massive halos tend to reach half of their current mass at higher redshifts. Simulation outputs including snapshot data, past lightcone space data, and halo merger data are available at http://sdss.kias.re.kr/astro/Horizon-Run4.

Graphical model represents conditional dependencies between variables as a graph with nodes and edges. It is widely used in various fields including physics, economics, and biology to describe complex association. Conditional dependencies can be estimated from a inverse covariance matrix, where zero off-diagonal elements denote conditional independence of corresponding variables. This paper proposes a efficient BCDR (block coordinate descent with random permutation) algorithm using graphics processing units and random permutation for the CONCORD (convex correlation selection method) based on the BCD (block coordinate descent) algorithm, which estimates a inverse covariance matrix based on pseudo-likelihood. We conduct numerical studies for two network structures to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm for the CONCORD in terms of computation times.

The extinction characteristics of low strain rate normal gravity (1-g) nonpremixed methane-air flames were studied numerically and experimentally. A time-dependent axisymmetric two-dimensional (2D) model considering buoyancy effects and radiative heat transfer was developed to capture the structure and extinction limits of 1-g flames. One-dimensional (1D) computations were also conducted to provide information on 0-g flames. A 3-step global reaction mechanism was used in both the 1D and 2D computations to predict the measured extinction limit and flame temperature. A specific maximum heat release rate was introduced to quantify the local flame strength and to elucidate the extinction mechanism. Overall fractional contribution by each term in the energy equation to the heat release was evaluated to investigate the multi-dimensional structure and radiative extinction of 1-g flames. Images of flames were taken for comparison with the model calculation undergoing extinction. The two-dimensional numerical model was validated by comparing flame temperature profiles and extinction limits with experiments and ID computation results. The 2D computations yielded insight into the extinction mode and flame structure of 1-g flames. Two combustion regimes depending on the extinction mode were identified. Lateral heat loss effects and multi-dimensional flame structure were also found. At low strain rates of 1-g flame ('Regime A'), the flame is extinguished from the weak outer flame edge, which is attributed to multi-dimensional flame structure and flow field. At high strain rates, ('Regime B'), the flame extinction initiates near the flame centerline due to an increased diluent concentration in reaction zone, which is the same as the extinction mode of 1D flame. These two extinction modes could be clearly explained with the specific maximum heat release rate.

This paper presents a method to predict the flying height of the head slider in a hard disk drive. Quantitative predicts of the flying height according to the variations of the external load and the disk velocity have been done by numerical computation. In addition, the magnitude of the external load to keep flying height constant were also suggested. The Modified Reynolds' equation driven from hydrodynamic lubrication theory under slip flow condition was used to describe air-bearing system under the slider. To solve the equation, a Finite Volume Method (FVM) has been applied. To determine the final minimum flying height and pitch angle of the head slider, the Secant iteration method is used which update initial guess of the minimum flying height and pitch angle of the slider. In this study, the model head slider has been selected from a real hard disk drive which is equipped in many commercial personal computers. As a result, as the disk velocity increases at constant external load, the minimum flying height and the pitch angle increase due to the in crease of the air-bearing force at the bottom of slider.

The static aeroelastic analysis and optimization of flexible wings are conducted for steady state conditions while both aerodynamic and structural parameters can be used as optimization variables. The system of multidisciplinary design optimization as a robust methodology to couple commercial codes for a static aeroelastic optimization purpose to yield a convenient adaptation to engineering applications is developed. Aspect ratio, taper ratio, sweepback angle are chosen as optimization variables and the skin thickness of the wing. The real-coded adaptive range multi-objective genetic algorithm code, which represents the global multi-objective optimization algorithm, was used to control the optimization process. The support vector regression(SVR) is applied for optimization, in order to reduce the time of computation. For this multi-objective design optimization problem, numerical results show that several useful Pareto optimal designs exist for the flexible wing.
