The purpose of this study is to report the effect of korean medicine treatment for developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in adults. A patient diagnosed with DDH had been treated with acupuncture, electroacupuncture, cupping therapy and chuna manual therapy for 8 weeks. The patient was evaluated by using range of motion (ROM) of hip joint, muscle strength of lower extremity, leg length, numeric rating scale (NRS) and Korean version of hip disability and osteoarthritis outcome score (K-HOOS). After the treatment, the patient had an improvement in the symptoms, pain, and activities of daily living of K-HOOS, especially the quality of life. In addition, NRS decreased from 7 to 4 points, and ROM and muscle strength also improved. The results of this study show that korean medicine treatment is effective and meaningful as one of the conservative treatment for DDH in adults.

The objective of this study is to propose a Korean medical rehabilitation protocol for total knee replacement (TKR) and to report its effectiveness. This study was conducted as a retrospective study which analyzes the medical records of 4 patients undergoing Korean medical rehabilitation with protocol and continuous passive motion exercise for more than two weeks after TKR. We evaluated the outcome checking physical examination findings of the knee joint, numeric rating scale (NRS), Lysholm knee score (LKS) and walking state. After the treatment, we observed that the function of knee joint, NRS, LKS, walking state of patients were improved. This study showed that Korean medical rehabilitation protocol has effect on knee joint recovery after TKR. The limitation of this study was the insufficient number of cases and short-term follow up. Further studies should be done steadily to report the effectiveness of a Korean Medical rehabilitation protocol for TKR.

The objective of this study is to report the effects of complex Korean Medicine treatment for 2 patients who had cervical spine fracture casued by traffic accident. We used acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, moxibustion and herbal medicine to treat patients with cervical spine fracture. We observed the changes of pain by Numeric Rating Scale(NRS), Neck Disability Index(NDI) and EuroQol-5 Dimension Index(EQ-5D Index). After complex Korean Medicine treatment, we found that neck pain was reduced and quality of life were improved by NRS, NDI and EQ-5D Index. Complex Korean Medicine could be effective for patients with cervical spine fracture caused by traffic accident.

This study reports the effectiveness of Korean medicine and Chuna manual therapy on patients with De Quervain's tenosynovitis. Two patients were treated with Chuna manual therapy, electro-acupuncture, moxibustion therapy. We used numeric rating scale (NRS), Finkelstein's test, sonography to measure changes during treatment. After each treatment, NRS, Finkelstein's test, sonography outcome were improved. Korean medicine including Chuna manual therapy can be effectively used to improve De Quervain's tenosynovitis. This study may suggest that korean medicine including Chuna manual therapy can be effective for De Quervain's tenosynovitis.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effects of Korean medical treatment on six patients with burning mouth syndrome. Methods : We treated six patients with burning mouth syndrome using following treatments: Oryeong-San, acupuncture and pharmacopuncture. Numeric rating scale(NRS) of burning pain, scores of dry mouth, progression of symptoms were analyzed to evaluate the effects of treatment. Results : NRS of pain and scores of dry mouth decreased after treatment. Conclusions : This clinical study suggests that Korean medical treatment can be effective in treating Burning Mouth Syndrome.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to report the clinical improvement of a patient who underwent arthroscopic Bankart repair using a rehabilitation protocol involving Korean medicine. Methods: The patient was treated with acupuncture, cupping, Korean Medicine, Chuna therapy, and Doin exercise therapy during the admission period. To estimate the patient's status, we used the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Pain Disability Index (PDI), assessments of the range of motion (ROM) and Muscle Manual Test (MMT) for the shoulder joint. Results: After administering the abovementioned treatments, we found that the patient's NRS, PDI, and ROM and MMT for the shoulder joint were improved. Conclusions: The rehabilitation protocol involving Korean medicine can be applied to and produce good results for patients who undergo arthroscopic repair for Bankart lesions. The limitation of the study was that the number of cases we studied was insufficient to prove the effectiveness. Hence, further studies are needed for designing the rehabilitation protocol involving Korean medicine.

Objectives : The aim of the present study was to report the clinical progress of a patient who underwent surgical treatment of necrotizing fasciitis. Methods : During the admission period, The patient was treated with acupuncture, cupping, Korean Medicine, Chuna therapy every day and observed by Numeric Rating Scale(NRS), Pain Disability Index(PDI), Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), and assessment about range of motion(ROM) and manual muscle test(MMT) for hip & knee joint. Results : After treated by using above treatment, NRS, PDI, BDI and ROM, MMT were improved. Conclusions : Korean Medical treatment are estimated to be good for patients after surgical treatment of necrotizing fasciitis. But more cases are required to prove the effectiveness of the treatment.

Objectives: The aim of this case report is to present abdominal pain relief in a patient diagnosed with colorectal cancer with several organ metastases. Methods: The patient was treated with herbal medicine, acupuncture, and moxibustion. The effect of the treatment was measured by a numeric rating scale (NRS). Results: The NRS of the patient's abdominal pain was reduced after Korean medicine treatment. Conclusions: This case report suggests that Korean medicine may be effective for treating abdominal pain in cancer patients. However, additional study is needed to confirm interactions between Korean medicine and the control of abdominal pain.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to report the improvement of a patient with tinnitus treated by herb-formulae medication based on Shanghanlun provisions. Methods : According to a disease pattern identification diagnostic system based on Shanghanlun provisions, a patient was diagnosed with Taeyang-byung, 40th provision and was administered Socheongryong-tang herbal medication for 45 days. The numeric rating scale (NRS) was used to estimate the response. Results : The NRS score changed from 10 to 0 and the tinnitus disappeared by 40th provision of Socheongryong-tang selected according to Shanghanlun provisions. Conclusions : This case report suggests that the two words in the 40^th provision of Shanghanlun, '表不解, 水氣'(exterior do not release, water qi) indicate a close relationship between economic difficulty and stuffiness of being in water, which affect tinnitus in this case.

Objective: This study addresses a case of fibromyalgia with insomnia and dry mouth. Methods: A patient diagnosed with fibromyalgia was treated with Korean medicine including herbal therapy with Guibiondam-tang-gagam, acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, moxibustion, and chuna for 16 days. To evaluate the therapeutic effects, sleeping hours, time taken to fall asleep, and surprise on waking were assessed, and a numeric rating scale (NRS) was used to monitor dry mouth. Results: After treatment, the patient's sleeping hours increased, time taken to fall asleep decreased, and the patient woke up surprised less often. The NRS score for dry mouth also decreased. Conclusion: These results suggest that Korean medicine therapies with Guibiondam-tang-gagam have a beneficial effect on insomnia and dry mouth as additional symptoms of fibromyalgia.
