Spot welding, namely a kind of electric resisting welding has been used widely in field of automobile and aircraft industries because of easiness to apply. Specimens used in this study was a mild steel of 1.2mm thickness and the electrode was a Cu-Cr alloy of 6mm diameter. The surface sheared of specimens after testing of tensile shear was observed by SEM(scanning electron microscope) after ultrasonic cleaning for 10min., and microstructures and grain size of all specimens were measured with using of O.M.(Optical microscope). By the means of measurement and observations of tensile shear load, fatigue strength and share surface, the weldability of spot welding was evaluated. When tensile shearing testing, fracture starting point in all specimens was took place at the bond between HAZ(Heat affected zone) and nugget. With increasing in number of layers, fatigue strength was decreased. With increasing in electric current, grain size in the HAZ became more fine.
Resistance spot welding has been widely used in the sheet metal joining processes because of its high productivity and convenience. Recently, automobile industries are trying to replace partly steel sheets with aluminum alloy sheets. Among currently produced aluminum alloys, Al alloy sheets of Al-Mg-Si(6000 series) are being tested. Especially, 6000 series are the most probable substitute in view of strength and weldability. In this paper, an attempt was made to apply resistance spot welding to joining of dissimilar sheet metals (KS6383+SCPZn or KS6383+SHCP). An effort was made to balance heating rate in the Al alloy with that in the steel sheets by increasing electrode tip diameter. Although resistance spot welding of Al alloy sheet and sheet metals does not produce desirable nugget, it proved to have reasonable strength if optimal weld condition is found by tensile-shear strength and fatigue life test. Since spot weld joints in automobile are always experiencing repeated load, spot welding methodology proposed in this paper is found to be not suitable to automobile body manufacturing.

This paper shows mechanical Properties and behaviors of macrostructures for specimens welded by F.S.W according to welding conditions and tool dimensions with $6.35mm_t$ aluminum 7075-T651 alloy plate. It apparently results in defect-free weld zone in case transition speed was changed to 15mm/min 61mm/min and 124mm/min under conditions of tool rotation speed such as 800rpm. 1250rpm and 1600rpm respectively with tool's Pin diameter 40mm and 60mm. The optimum mechanical property, ultimate stress,${\sigma}_Y=470Mpa$ is obtained at the condition of 124mm/min of travel speed with 800rpm of tool rotation speed using full screw type pin. shoulder dia. $20{\phi}mm$ pin dia. $6{\phi}mm$ and pin length 6mm. The full-screw type and the half-screw type pin shows the similar behaviors of weldability. It is found that the size of nugget is depended on tool transition speed and tool dimension by macrostructures of the cross section of weld zone.

The resistance spot welding of high strength steel degrades the weldability because of its high strength with rich chemical composition and coating layer to protect from corrosion. During the each resistance welding process the electrodes tip reacts with coating layer, then subsequently deteriorates and shorten electrode life. In this study, the Al-coated HPF (Hot Press Forming) steels and Zn-coated TRIP steels were used to investigate the electrode life for resistance spot welding. Experimental results show that the reactivity of Al-coating on HPF steels to electrode tip surface behaviors different from the conventional Zn-coated high strength steels. The electrode tip diameter and nugget size in electrode life test of Al-coated HPF steels are observed to be constant with respect to weld numbers. For Al-coated HPF steels, the hard aluminum oxide layer being formed during high temperature heat treatment process reduces reactivity with copper electrode during the resistance welding process. Eventually, the electrode life in resistance spot welding of Al-coated HPF steels has the advantage over the galvanized steel sheets.

The demand for lightweight materials and high-strength steel has rapidly increased to help reduce the weight of a vehicle body; it improves the fuel efficiency of automobiles and provides passenger safety. Additionally, as the material becomes thinner, the demand for its resistance against corrosion becomes higher. Hence, the application of the surface-treated steel sheet has surged rapidly. In this study, a weld bonding experiment using a delta spot welding machine is performed on a thin sheet of a different material (Al6061-T6/GA440). The thickness of the material was kept at 1 mm to reduce the weight of the automobile body parts. Additionally, the purpose of this study is to control the heat input by applying the welding conditions of a multi-stage pressure pattern to improve corrosion resistance shear strength. The analysis of nugget diameter measurement, shear tensile test, and salt spray test was performed to achieve the aim.

This paper presents a comparative study of the AC and MFDC resistance spot welding process with consideration of sheet thickness. The previous studies have confirmed that there is difference in the optimum welding current and expulsion current with AC and MFDC. The aim of this study was revealing the effect of sheet thickness on weldable current range and expulsion behavior for AC and MFDC welding processes. The optimum welding current of AC was lower (1.6 kA) than MFDC welding process in 0.8 mm sheet thickness. Early nugget growth being caused by the peak current of AC developed weld interface deformation, which resulted in suppressing the growth of corona bond and occurrence of low current expulsion. The resistance spot welding for thicker sheet (1.4 mm) required lower current of 0.6 kA for the expulsion on the MFDC welding process. The growth of contact diameter (size of corona bond) and button diameter was linear up to the expulsion current with MFDC welding process. Therefore, more attention is required when the AC and MFDC resistance spot welding process is applied for different thickness of steel sheet combination for automotive application.

This paper shows the behaviors of macro- and micro-structures and mechanical properties for specimen's welding region welded by FSW. according to welding conditions with 5mm thickness aluminum 5083O alloy plate. It apparently results in defect-free weld zone in case traverse speed was changed to 32 mm/min under conditions of anti-clockwise direction and tool rotation speed such as 800 and 1250 rpm with tool's pin diameter of 5 ${\Phi}mm$ and shoulder diameter of 20 ${\Phi}mm$, pin length of 4.5 mm and tilting angle of $2^{\circ}$. The ultimate stress of ${\sigma}_T=331$ MPa and the yield point of 147 MPa are obtained at the condition of the travel speed of 32 mm/min with the tool rotation speed of 1250 rpm. There is neither voids nor cracks on bended surface of $180^{\circ}$ after bending test. The improvement of toughness after impact test was found. The lower rotating and traverse speed became, the higher were yield point, maximum stress and elongation(%) with the stresses and the elongation(%) versus the traverse speed diagram. Vickers hardness for cross section of welding zone were also presented. The typical macro-structures such as dynamically recrystallized zone, thermo-mechanically affected zone and heat affected zone and the micro-structures of the transverse cross-section were also showed. However, the author found out that the region of 6mm far away from shoulder circumference was affected by friction heat comprehensively, that is, hardness softened and that part of micro-structures were re-solid-solution or recrystallized, the author also knew that there is no mechanically deformation on heat affected zone but there are the flow of plastic deformation of $45^{\circ}$ direction on thermo-mechanically affected zone and the segregation of Al-Mg on nugget. The solid solution wt(%) of parent material as compared against of friction stir welded zone was comprehensively changed.
