Water heat transfer experiments were carried out in a uniformly heated annulus with a wide range of pressure conditions. The local heat transfer coefficients for saturated water (low boiling have been measured just before the occurrence of the critical heat flux (CHF) along the length of the heated section. The trends of the measured heat transfer coefficients were quite different from the conventional understanding for the heat transfer of saturated flow boiling. This discrepancy was explained from the nucleate boiling in the liquid film of annular flow under high heat flux conditions. The well-known correlations were compared with the measured heat transfer coefficients. The Shah and Kandlikar correlations gave better prediction than the Chen correlation. However, the modified Chen correlation proposed in the present work showed the best agreement with the present data among correlations examined .
Heat transfer performance is studied for boiling and condensation of R-11 on integral-fin tubes. Nine tubes with trapezoidal integral-fins having fin densities from 748 to 1654fpm and 10,30 grooves and finned tubes with caves of 0.55 and 0.64 mm height respectively are tested. in case of condensation CFC-11 condensates at saturation stat of 32℃ on the outside surface cooled by inside cooling water flows. And in case of boiling the refrigerant evaporates at a saturation state of 1 bar on the outside tube surface and heat is supplied by hot water which circulates inside of the tube,. The tube having fin transfer coefficient concerns fin tubes with caves show higher valve than low fin tube having find density of 1299fpm and 30grooves. The overall heat transfer coefficient of fin tube with caves is about 5155 W/mK at 2.8m/s of water velocity, The value is abuot 2.7 times higher than plain tube and 1.3 times higher than low fin tube having fin density of 1299fpm and 30 grooves.
Heat transfer performance of integral-fin tube which is used in recipro turbo refrigerator or high compact heat exchangers is studied. Eight tubes with trapezoidal shaped integral-fins having fin densities from 748 to 1654 fpm and 10, 30 internal grooves are tested. A plain tube having the same(inner and outer) diameter as the fin tubes is also tested for comparison. Pool boiling heat transfer of R-11 is investigated experimentally and theoretically on single tube arrangement. The refrigerant evaporates at saturation state of 1 bar on the outside tube surface and heat is supplied by not water which circulates inside of the tube. From the result of eight fin tubes and one plain tube tested, a tube having 1299 fpm-30 grooves shows the best performance. A maximum overall heat transfer coefficient of this tube is about 4000 $W/m^{2}K$ at 2.8m/s of water velocity. The maximum heat transfer enhancement (i.e., the ratio of overall heat transfer coefficients of finned to plain tubes)is about 2.1.
Boiling heat transfer coefficients of pure refrigerants (R22, R32, R134a, R125, R290, and R600a) and refrigerant mixtures (R32/Rl34a, R290/ R600a, and R32/R125) are measured experimentally and compared with Chen's correlation. The test section is a seamless stainless steel tube with inner diameter of 7.7mm and uniformly heated by applying electric current directly to the tube. Heat fluxes range from 10 to 30kW$^2$. Mass fluxes are set to 424 ~ 742kg/m$^{2}$s for R22, R32, R134a, R32/R134a, and R32/Rl25 ; 265 ~ 583kg/m$^{2}$s for R290, R600a, and R290/R600a. Heat transfer coefficients depend strongly on heat flux at a low quality region and become independent as quality increases. Convective boiling term in the Chen's correlation predicts experimental data of the pure refrigerants fairly well (relative error of 12.1% for the data of quality over 0.2). The correlation for pure substances overpredicts the heat transfer coefficients for nonazeotropic refrigerant mixtures.

Convective boiling heat transfer coefficients were measured in a horizontal minichannel with R-l34a. The test section was made of stainless steel tube with an inner diameter of 3.0 mm and a length of 2m. It was uniformly heated by applying electric current directly to the tube. Local heat transfer coefficients were obtained for heat fluxes from 10 to $40kW/m^2$, mass fluxes from 200 to $600kgT/m^2s$, qualities up to 1.0, and the inlet saturation temperature of $10^{\circ}C$. The experimental results were mapped on Wojtan et $al.'s^(7)$ and Wang et $al.'s^(8)$ flow pattern maps. The nucleate boiling was predominant at low vapor quality whereas the convective boiling was predominant at high vapor quality. Laminar flow appeared in the flow with minichannel. The experimental results were compared with six existing two-phase heat transfer coefficient correlations. A new boiling heat transfer coefficient correlation based on the superposition model for refrigerants was developed with mean and average deviations of 10.39% and -3.66%, respectively.

Simulating the Corrosion-Related Unidentified Deposit (CRUD) on the surface of fuel assemblies is necessary to predict the axial offset anomaly and the localized corrosion induced by the CRUD during the operation of nuclear power plants. A new CRUD model was developed to predict the formation of the CRUD deposits, considering the deposition and erosion mechanisms. The heat transfer and capillary flow within the CRUD were also considered to evaluate the boiling amount within the CRUD layer. This model predicted a CRUD deposit thickness of 44 ㎛ during a one-cycle operation of the Seabrook nuclear power plant. The CRUD deposition tended to accelerate and decelerate during the simulation, by being related to boiling mechanism on the deposits surface. Additionally, during a three-cycle operation corresponding to the refueling period, the CRUD deposition was saturated at a thickness of 80 ㎛, which was in good agreement with the suggested thickness for CRUD buildupin pressurized water reactors. Surface boiling on the thin CRUD deposits enhanced the acceleration of the deposition, even when the wick boiling properties were not favorable for CRUD deposition. To ensure the certainty of the simulation results, sensitivity analyses were conducted for the porosity, chimney density, and the constants employed in the proposed model of the CRUD.
In two-fluid simulations of flow boiling, the modeling of the mean bubble diameter is a key parameter in the closure relations governing the intefacial transfer of mass, momentum, and energy. Monodispersed approach proved to be insufficient to describe the significant variation in bubble size during flow boiling in a heated pipe. A population balance model (PBM) has been employed to address these shortcomings. During nucleate boiling, vapor bubbles of a certain size are formed on the heated wall, detach and migrate into the bulk flow. These bubbles then grow, shrink or disintegrate by evaporation, condensation, breakage and aggregation. In this study, a parametric analysis of the PBM aggregation and breakage models has been performed to investigate their effect on the radial distribution of the mean bubble diameter and vapor volume fraction. The simulation results are compared with the DEBORA experiments (Garnier et al., 2001). In addition, the influence of PBM parameters on the local distribution of individual bubble size groups was also studied. The results have shown that the modeling of aggregation process has the largest influence on the results and is mainly dictated by the collisions due to flow turbulence.
In lots of application to heat exchanger systems, closed two-phase thermosyphons are tilted from a horizontal. If the tilt angle, especially, is less than 30$^{\circ}$, the operational performances of thermosyphon are highly dependent on tilt angle. The present study was conducted to better understand such operational behaviors as mech-anni는 of phase change, and flow patterns inside a tilted thermosyphon. For experiment, an ethanol thermosyphon with a 35% of fill charge rate was designed and manufactured, using a copper tube with a diameter 19mm and a length 1500mm. Through a series of test, the tilt angle was kept constant at each of 4 different values in the range 10~25deg. and the heat supply to the evaporator was stepwisely increased up to 30㎾/$m^2$. When a steady state was established to the thermosyphon for each step of thermal loads, the wall temperature distribution and vapor temperature at the condenser were measured. The wall temperature distributions demonstrated a formation of dry patch in the top end zone of the evaporator, with a values of temperature 20~4$0^{\circ}C$ higher than the wetted surface for a moderate heat flux q≒20㎾/$m^2$. Inspite of the presence of hot dry patch, however, the mean values of boiling heat transfer coefficient at the evaporator wall were still in a good agreement with those predicted by Rohsenow's formula, which was based on nucleate boiling. For the condenser, the wall temperatures were practically uniform, and the measured values of condensation heat transfer coefficient were 1.7 times higher than the predicted values obtained from Nusselt's film condensation theory on tilted plate. Using those two expressions, a correlation was formulated as a function of heat flux and tilt angle, to determine the total thermal resistance of a tilted thermosyphon. The correlation formula showed a good agreement with the experimental data within 20%.
In this work, nucleate pool boiling heat transfer coefficients(HTCs) of pure water are measured on horizontal 26 fpi low fin, Turbo-B and Thermoexcel-E square surfaces of 9.53 mm length. HTCs are taken from 10 $kW/m^2$ to critical heat flux for all surfaces. Test results show that critical heat fluxes(CHFs) of all enhanced surfaces are greatly improved as compared to that of a plain surface. CHFs of water on the 26 fpi low fin surface, Thermoexcel-E surface, and Turbo-B are increased up to 320%, 275%, and 150% as compared to that of the plain surface, respectively. CHF of the Turbo-B enhanced surface is lower than that of the 26 fpi low fin surface due to the surface geometry. The heat transfer enhancement ratios of the Thermoexcel-E surface, low fin surface and Turbo-B enhanced surface are 1.6~2.9, 1.6~2.1, 1.4~1.7 respectively in the range of heat fluxes tested. Judging from these results, it can be said that these types of enhanced surfaces can be used in heat transfer applications at high heat fluxes.
In this work, nucleate pool boiling heat transfer coefficients(HTCs) of 5 refrigerants of differing vapor pressure are measured on horizontal low fin and Turbo-B square surfaces of 9.53 mm length. Tested refrigerants are R32, R22, R134a, R152a and R245fa and HTCs are taken from 10 $kW/m^2$ to critical heat fluxes for all refrigerant at $7^{\circ}C$. Wall and fluid temperatures are measured directly by thermocouples located underneath the test surface and in the liquid pool. Test results show that Critical heat fluxes(CHFs) of all enhanced surfaces are greatly improved as compared to that of a plain surface in all tested refrigerants. CHFs of all refrigerants on the 26 fpi low fin surface are increased up to 240% as compared to that of the plain surface. HTCs on both low fin and Turbo-B surfaces increase with heat flux. After certain heat flux, however, they decrease. CHFs of the Turbo-B enhanced surface are lower than that of the 26 fpi low fin surface. This phenomenon is due to the difference in surface structure of the low fin and Turbo-B surface.
