  • Spray formation mechanism was controlled by a cavitation inside an injection nozzle. Nozzle geometry affects spray characteristics and formation behavior, which could determine engine performance and pollutant formation. A study was carried out on the influence of aspect ratio on cavitation inside a nozzle. The cavitation model available in Star-CD code was used to obtain cavitation behavior inside nozzle, which was compared with previous experimental results. In this paper, a CFD approach combining multiphase Volume-of-Fluid(VOF) and k-model was applied. The numerical results are similar with the experimental results.

  • Very frequently the compressible flow in an extinction nozzle of gas circuit breaker is simulated under no arc assumption, which can be reasonable for both high and low current breakings. In the present study, computations are performed to investigate the major features of the compressible flows inside the arc extinction nozzle of gas circuit breaker. A fully implicit finite volume scheme is applied to solve the two-dimensional, steady, compressible, Wavier-Stokes equations. The computed results are validated with the previous experimental data available. Several types of turbulence models are explored to reasonably predict the complicated flows inside the arc extinction nozzle. The obtained results show that the shock wave boundary layer interaction inside the nozzle significantly influences the whole performance of the gas breaker.

  • The combustion process and the performance of a diesel engine are considerably affected by the characteristics of fuel spray. It is known that the spray of swirl nozzle for diesel engine injector of small orifice ratio becomes soft spray that has no core, therefore its penetration, one of the characteristics of spray becomes werse inspite of its good dispersion. In this paper, the spray characteristics of variously designed swirl nozzle for diesel injector were investigated by the photographic method. The nozzles, used in this experiment, vary in the diameter of swirl chambers and orifice ratio. From the results of the study, the sprays of this type nozzle of optimum swirl chamber and orifice ratio show that penetration decreased slightly but dispersion and spray volume increased remarcably, compared with unswirled single hole nozzle of the same size. It was suggested as a reason for the results, that the spray of this type swirl nozzle is similar to hard spray, therefore the core of the spray sustains good penetration considerably.

  • The thrust vectoring concept has been used for use in new advanced supersonic aircraft. This study presents the performance characteristics of the thrust vectoring nozzle by visualizing the shock behaviors with Schlieren method. The scaled models were designed and manufactured to see the shock behaviors of the various airflow condition. Also we executed experimental tests to see the geometrical effects of the thrust vector nozzle by changing pitch angle and length of pitch flaps. From this study we could understand the supersonic flow characteristics of the thrust vector nozzle. The total thrust of thrust vector nozzle is diminished by increasing the flap angle. But there is an optimum flap length ratio for attaining the highest thrust level and proper pitch effect.

  • LASOX is a cutting technology used to dismantle nuclear power plants. The core component of the laser-assisted oxygen hybrid cutting process is the supersonic nozzle. To design optimized supersonic nozzles, an experimental design was established and computational fluid dynamics was used to analyze the supersonic nozzles. The main factors affecting the supersonic nozzle performance were identified using Minitab. Further, the correlations and interactions between the main factors of the supersonic nozzle design were analyzed. The fluid analysis results were examined for the major factors and standardized response variables as well as main effects to ensure suitability of the supersonic nozzle design for the laser-assisted oxygen cutting process.

  • The objective of this is to experimentally investigate the effect of mixed jet on the oxygen transfer characteristics with the primary nozzle area ratio of an annular nozzle ejector for the application of a microbial fuel cell. A direct visualization method with a high speed camera system was used to capture the horizontal mixed jet images, and a binarization technique was used to analyze the images. The clean water unsteady state technique was used for the oxygen transfer measurement. The air-water mixed jet discharging into a water tank behaved similar to a buoyancy or horizontal jet with the primary nozzle area ratio. It was found that an optimum primary nozzle area ratio was observed where the oxygen transfer performance reached its maximum value due to the decrease of air volume fraction and the increase of jet length and air bubble dispersion.

지하구 미분무수 소화설비 적용에 관한 연구 (An Application of the Water Mist System for Underground Utility Tunnel)

  • 본 연구는 지하구 미분무수 소화설비 적용에 관한 것으로, 화재 초기에 신속한 소화를 통한 케이블 열적손상의 최소화와 신속한 본래 기능의 회복을 위한 소화 시스템의 최적화에 그 목적이 있으며, 이를 위해 미분무수 노즐개발을 위한 화재실험을 수행하였다. 실험은 2.5m(H)$\times$2.5m(W)$\times$25m(D)의 콘크리트 지하구에서 소화설비가 작동되지 않는 경우와 2가지 종류의 미분무수노즐이 적용되는 경우를 수행하였다. 실험 결과 소화설비의 개입이 없는 경우, 2분 이내에 열적 변형에 의한 치명적인 손상을 입었으며, 2~3분 경과 후 케이블의 내부까지 손상되었다. 노즐적용실험의 결과, 타입 1(입자분포 약 470$\mu{m}$)노즐과 타입 2(입자분포 약 650$\mu{m}$) 노즐은 모두 케이블의 피해 온도제어($4000^{\circ}c$ 이하)를 만족하였다. 실험을 통하여 지하구 공간특성에 적합한 미분무수 헤드의 특성을 설정할 수 있었으며, 그 성능을 입증할 수 있었다.

공기분사 및 회전 롤러를 이용한 옥수수 포엽 제거장치의 시험 (Evaluation of an Air-jet and Roller Type Corn-husker)

  • With income growth and "well-being" trends, sales of corn has been increased recently. Corns are processed at processing facilities on the main production site. Corn processing steps include removing bract, steaming, vacuum packing, and storing. To replace manual corn bract removing, some bract removing machines were imported and used. However, the machines were abandoned shortly, because of high damaging ratio of corns. In this research, factors of successful bract removing was studied with rotating rollers and air-injection nozzles to develop corn bract removing system. The test device was composed of a cylindrical roller, an air spray nozzle, a regulator, and a motor. Designing factors were roller type, diameter of air spraying nozzle, spraying angle, and spraying pressure. The measured factors were bract removing rate and damaging rate. It was found that optimum cylindrical roller surface shape was cylindrical roller and linear grove roller. This roller shape produced lowest damaging rate. Test results of the efficacy of preprocessing showed that the air spraying after preprocessing produced highest performance. The rotational speed and inclination of the roller didn't affect the bract removing performance. Optimum injection angle of the air jet nozzle was $70^{\circ}$. To increase bract removing rate and to reduce corn damage, required injection pressure and injection nozzle diameter were decided to less than 0.4 MPa and 2.5 mm, respectively. More than 3 times of nozzle passing produced good bract removing performance and there were no significant difference between the number of passing times.

미니 스프링클러의 살수 성능실험-(1)살수량과 거리별 살수강도 (Experimental Study on Performance of Mini -Sprinkler -( 1 ) Sprinkling Flow Rate and Sprinkling Intensity Pattern)

  • 분구의 구경과 액분산기의 구조가 각각 다른 12종의 미니스프링클러를 대상으로 살수량과 살수강도분포를 실험하여 얻은 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 미니 스프링클러의 살수량은 분구의 이론 유출량 산출 수식에 의해 예측할 수 있었다. 실험한 스프링클러의 유량계수는 분구구경 증가에 따라 감소하여 그 크기는 분구구경 0.8, 1.2, 1.6mm의 경우 각각 0.90-30.95, 0.80-0.82, 0.76-0.79의 범위로 나타났다. 스프링클러의 살수 분포는 동일한 구조의 스프링클러의 경우 분구구경이 작을 수록 그리고 살수압력이 낮을 수록 균일한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 스프링클러의 살수분포는 분구구경이나 살수압력 외에도 액분산기의 구조에 따라 크게 영향을 받으므로 액분산기의 구조를 변화하므로서 살수입자의 최대 도달거리나 살수의 균일도를 높일 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.

  • 작동 시퀀스에 따른 핀틀 노즐의 성능 특성을 비교하였다. 비정상상태 이동격자 수치해석 기법을 이용하여 시간에 따른 핀틀의 위치 변화를 고려하였으며, 다양한 핀틀 형상과 작동 시퀀스에 따른 성능 응답지연 및 민감도 분석을 수행하였다. 연소실 내부의 압력 상승률과 압력진동이 성능에 미치는 영향을 관찰하기 위하여, 노즐 목에 핀틀이 머무르는 시간이 다른 세 가지의 작동 시퀀스를 고려하였다. 핀틀이 노즐 목에 머무르지 않는 경우(case 1), 0.5초 머무를 경우(case 2) 그리고 노즐 목 위치에 계속 정지해 있을 경우(case 3)에 대해 비교하였고, 이를 통해 작동 시퀀스 및 핀틀 형상에 따른 동특성 연구를 수행하여 추력 특성 변화를 도출하였다.
