  • A series of experiments was performed in this study to investigate the boiling heat flux between an impinging water jet and a hot surface. Test variables were surface roughness, jet velocity, saturation temperature excess of surface, nozzle diameter and the gap distance between nozzle plate and the hot surface. In order to make the impinged cooling water a forced flow streaming a long the hot surface immediately after the initial impingement, the flat nozzle tip was extended to a circular flat plate having the same diameter as the hot surface. Utilizing the dimensionless parameter study on continuity, momentum and energy equations, 5 groups of variables involved in the nucleate boiling heat transfer were derived so that it is possible to estimate the increased heat flux by impinging water jet in a similar experimental work. For the case of saturated water being impinging onto a high temperature surface, an applicable correlation among dimensionless parameters describing the heat flux was found to be as follow.

  • High speed rotating arc process, forming a flat bead surface with shallow penetration depth, can be applied to the automatic seam tracking, because the amplitude of current waveform increases at high rotation speed. Two high speed arc rotation mechanisms have been developed in Japan and Germany b rotating the electrode nozzle using an external motor, which are used prevalently for narrow gap and conventional seam welding. In this study, a new rotation mechanism was developed by using a hallow shaft motor designed to be installed in the electrode nozzle. By rotating the welding arc, the amplitude of current waveform increases remarkably since the self-regulation of arc is not fully performed. Experiments show that the arc sensor with high-speed rotation arc has improved its responsiveness and sensitivity.

  • As the rocket KSLV-1 called NARO was launched lately, development of domestic rocket technology has been accelerated elastically. Since the rocket technology needs a lot of empirical data, a variety of experiments should be done and lots of time have to be spent for accumulating the foundation of technology. However using a computer can be the solution to close a gap of technique because the simulation can be executed in short time against real experiments and calculate a multiplicity of cases easily. In this research, the transient analysis of turbopump-fed liquid rocket system was worked by the one dimensional modeling. The rocket system consists of the modulized components that are engine, turbopump and so on. For 70 ton class system, the rocket transient process of starting was studied and the performance analysis in steady condition was achieved. In addition, the estimation of nozzle internal flow was investigated by using a nozzle coefficient.

  • Nitrogen oxide is generated by the chemical reaction of oxygen and nitrogen in higher temperature environment of combustion facilities. The NOx reduction equipment is generally used in the power plant or incineration plant and it causes enormous cost for the construction and maintenance. The flue gas recirculation method is commonly adopted for the reduction of NOx formation in the combustion facilities. In the present study, the computational fluid dynamic analysis was accomplished to elucidated the cold flow characteristics in the flue gas recirculation burner with coanda nozzles in the flue gas recirculation pipe. The inlet and outlet of flue gas recirculation pipes are directed toward the tangential direction of circular burner not toward the center of burner. The swirling flow is formed in the burner and it causes the reverse flow in the burner. The ratio of flue gas recirculation flow rate with the air flow rate was about 2.5 for the case with the coanda nozzle gap, 0.5mm and it was 1.5 for the case with the gap, 1.0mm. With the same coanda nozzle gap, the flue gas recirculation flow rate ratio had a little increase when the air flow rate changes from 1.1 to 2.2 times of ideal air flow rate.

  • Among the semiconductor ternary compounds in the I-III-$VI_2$ series, $CulnS_2$ ($CulnSe_2$) are one of the promising materials for photovoltaic applications because of the suitability of their electrical and optical properties. The $CuInS_2$ thin film is one of I-III-$VI_2$ type semiconductors, which crystallizes in the chalcopyrite structure. Its direct band gap of 1.5 eV, high absorption coefficient and environmental viewpoint that $CuInS_2$ does not contain any toxic constituents make it suitable for terrestrial photovoltaic applications. A variety of techniques have been applied to deposit $CuInS_2$ thin films, such as single/double source evaporation, coevaporation, rf sputtering, chemical vapor deposition and chemical spray pyrolysis. This is the first report that $CuInS_2$ thin films have been prepared by Aerosol Jet Deposition (AJD) technique which is a novel and attractive method because thin films with high deposition rate can be grown at very low cost. In this study, $CuInS_2$ thin films have been prepared by Aerosol Jet Deposition (AJD) method which employs a nozzle expansion. The mixed fluid is expanded through the nozzle into the chamber evacuated in a lower pressure to deposit $CuInS_2$ films on Mo coated glass substrate. In this AJD system, the characteristics of $CuInS_2$ films are dependent on various deposition parameters, such as compositional ratio of precursor solution, flow rate of carrier gas, stagnation pressure, substrate temperature, nozzle shape, nozzle size and chamber pressure, etc. In this report, $CuInS_2$ thin films are deposited using the deposition parameters such as the compositional ratio of the precursor solution and the substrate temperature. The deposited $CuInS_2$ thin films will be analyzed in terms of deposition rate, crystal structure, and optical properties.

  • According to recent changes in industry for the semiconductor device, a gap between patterns in wafer is getting narrow. And this narrow gap makes a failure of uniform deposition between center and edge on the wafer. In this paper, for solving this problem, we analyze and manipulate the gas flow inside of the HDP CVD chamber by using CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics). This simulation includes design manipulations in heights of the chamber and shape of center nozzle in the upper side of the chamber. The result of simulation shows 1.28 uniformity which is lower 3% than original uniformity.

  • Many issues arose to use the Pb-free solder as adhesive materials in MEMS ICs and packaging. Then this study for easy and simple sealing method using adhesive materials was carried out to maintain hermetic characteristic in MEMS Package. In this study, Hermetic characteristic using negative PR (XP SU-8 3050 NO-2) as adhesive at the interface of Si test coupon/glass substrate and Si test coupon/LTCC substrate was examined. For experiment, the dispenser pressure was 4 MPa and the $200\;{\mu}m{\Phi}$ syringe nozzle was used. 3.0 mm/sec as speed of dispensing and 0.13 mm as the gap between Si test coupon and nozzle was selected to machine condition. 1 min at $65^{\circ}C$ and 15 min at $95^{\circ}C$ as Soft bake, $200\;mj/cm^2$ expose in 365 nm wavelength as UV expose, 1 min at $65^{\circ}C$ and 6 min at $95^{\circ}C$ as Post expose bake, 60 min at $150^{\circ}C$ as hard bake were selected to activation condition of negative PR. Hermetic sealing was achieved at the Si test coupon/ glass substrate and Si test coupon/LTCC substrate. The leak rate of Si test coupon/glass substrate was $5.9{\times}10^{-8}mbar-l/sec$, and there was no effect by adhesive method. The leak rate of Si test coupon/LTCC substrate was $4.9{\times}10^{-8}mbar-l/sec$, and there was no effect by dispensing cycle. Better leak rate value could be achieved to use modified substrate which prevent PR flow, to increase UV expose energy and to use system that controls gap automatically with vision.

  • A new advanced safety feature of DVI+ (Direct Vessel Injection Plus) for the APR+ (Advanced Power Reactor Plus), to mitigate the ECC (Emergency Core Cooling) bypass fraction and to prevent switching an ECC outlet to a break flow inlet during a DVI line break, is presented for an advanced DVI system. In the current DVI system, the ECC water injected into the downcomer is easily shifted to the broken cold leg by a high steam cross flow which comes from the intact cold legs during the late reflood phase of a LBLOCA (Large Break Loss Of Coolant Accident)For the new DVI+ system, an ECBD (Emergency Core Barrel Duct) is installed on the outside of a core barrel cylinder. The ECBD has a gap (From the core barrel wall to the ECBD inner wall to the radial direction) of 3/25~7/25 of the downcomer annulus gap. The DVI nozzle and the ECBD are only connected by the ECC water jet, which is called a hydrodynamic water bridge, during the ECC injection period. Otherwise these two components are disconnected from each other without any pipes inside the downcomer. The ECBD is an ECC downward isolation flow sub-channel which protects the ECC water from the high speed steam crossflow in the downcomer annulus during a LOCA event. The injected ECC water flows downward into the lower downcomer through the ECBD without a strong entrainment to a steam cross flow. The outer downcomer annulus of the ECBD is the major steam flow zone coming from the intact cold leg during a LBLOCA. During a DVI line break, the separated DVI nozzle and ECBD have the effect of preventing the level of the cooling water from being lowered in the downcomer due to an inlet-outlet reverse phenomenon at the lowest position of the outlet of the ECBD.

  • Tetrafluoromethane ($CF_4$) has been used as the plasma etching and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) gas for semiconductor manufacturing processes. However, the gas need to be removed efficiently because of their strong absorption of infrared radiation and the long atmospheric lifetime which cause global warming effects. A waterjet gliding arc plasma system in which plasma is combined with the waterjet was developed to effectively produce OH radicals, resulting in efficient destruction of $CF_4$ gas. Design factors such as electrode shape, electrode angle, gas nozzle diameter, electrode gap, and electrode length were investigated. The highest $CF_4$ destruction of 93.4% was achieved at Arc 1 electrode shape, $20^{\circ}$ electrode angle, 3 mm gas nozzle diameter, 3 mm electrode gap and 120 mm electrode length.
