An experimental investigation for impingement of under-expanded, axisymmetric jets on a flat plate has been conducted, and the surface pressure, the adiabatic wall temperature distributions on the plate have been measured in detail. For the explanation on the wall temperature distributions, the total temperature distributions along a free jet have also been measured with total temperature probes. In this study, the under-expansion ratio and the nozzle-to-plate distance have been considered as experimental parameters. Depending on nozzle-to-plate distances, different distributions of adiabatic wall temperature are shown by the energy separation at a jet edge and a impinged surface. Also, the recovery factor on a stagnation point decreases significantly due to the isolation of fluid particles in a central region.

A small supersonic wind tunnel was designed and built to study the flow characteristics of a supersonic impulse turbine cascade. Experiments were performed to find the flow characteristics of a supersonic turbine with the cascade positions and to find a factor of the expansion loss. The supersonic cascade with a 2-dimensional supersonic nozzle was tested with the cascade positions. The flow was visualized by a Z-type Schlieren system. The static pressures at the turbine cascade inlet and outlet were measured by pressure transducers and a pressure scanner. Also, The total pressures at the turbine cascade back flow were measured. Highly complicated flow patterns including shocks, nozzle-cascade interaction and shock boundary layer interactions of the supersonic turbine were observed. And the flow characteristics in the supersonic turbine with the cascade positions were observed.

Two-stage light gas gun, sorted with Ballistic Range System, is used to research spray characteristics of supersonic liquid jets. When high pressure tube was pressurized to the 135 bar, diaphragm films which composed with OHP film are ruptured. Expansion gases accelerate a projectile approximately 250 m/s at the exit of pump tube. And accelerated projectile collides with liquid storage part and liquid jets were injected into supersonic conditions. Supersonic liquid jets show the multiple jets and generate shockwave at the forward region of jets. Supersonic liquid jets of speed and shockwave angle have different value at each case. Supersonic liquid jets with minimum velocities are injected with M=1.53 at the geometry condition of L/d=23.8.

Recently, the distribution of drones is being activated by saving farmers' working time and protecting them from harmful human bodies from pesticides due to the mission of spraying pesticides using drones. It is possible to compensate for various shortcomings derived from the existing pesticide spraying method, wide-area control and helicopter control. Recently, the smart farm expansion policy has actively used it to generate profits for farmers by increasing harvests by monitoring growth information of various crops based on IoT in real time and collecting big data on key variables, and related drone industry technologies are also being developed. In this study, drones were applied to the work of shading greenhouses to secure diversity in agricultural application fields, and basic research on the greenhouse environment was conducted to materialize the technology related to shading. In order to provide high-quality light in consideration of the internal and external environment of the green house, basic research was conducted to enable light-shielding missions using drones through nozzle design for uniform spraying of nozzles of drones, light-transmitting rate analysis of green houses, and light-shielding agent application experiments.
The performance analysis of the small satellites launch vehicle using the electric pump cycle as the upper stage engines was performed. The first stage is the launch vehicle that uses the test launch vehicle of the Korea Space Launch Vehicle II and the second stage employs elecpump cycle engine that uses liquid methane and kerosene (RP-1) as fuel. A model for the mass estimation was presented and the analysis was conducted for the range of thrust of 20 to 40 kN and combustion pressure of 3 to 6 MPa with a nozzle expansion ratio of 60 to 100. The mixture ratio with the maximum velocity increment was calculated and the performance of the LEO and SSO payload were calculated from the stage mass estimation. In both the cases, liquid methane, and RP-1 showed maximum payload for 20 kN thrust, 3 MPa combustion pressure, and the nozzle expansion ratio of 100, with a mixture ratio of 3.49 for liquid methane and 2.75 for RP-1. In addition, the ditching points of the first stage and the fairing in the LEO mission were analyzed using ASTOS.

Experimental study on characteristics of direct contact condensation of steam discharged into a sub-cooled water pool has been performed using five different sizes of horizontal nozzle over a wide range of steam mass fluxes and pool temperatures. Steam condensation phenomena have been observed visually and by taking pictures of steam jets using a high speed video camera. Two different steam jet shapes such as ellipsoidal shape and conical shape were typically observed for a stable steam jet, depending on the steam mass flux and pool temperature. The steam jet expansion ratio and the steam jet length as well as the condensation heat transfer coefficients were determined. The effect of steam mass flux, pool temperature, and nozzle diameter on these parameters were also discussed. Empirical correlations for the steam jet lengths and the condensation heat transfer coefficients as a function of steam mass flux and condensation driving potential were established. The axial and radial temperature distributions in steam jet and in surrounding water were measured. The effect of steam mass flux, pool temperature, and nozzle diameter were also discussed. The condensation regime map, which consists of six regimes such as chugging, transient chugging, condensation oscillation, stable condensation, bubble condensation oscillation, and intermittent oscillation condensation, were established. In addition, the dynamic pressures at the pool wall were measured. The close relation of dynamic pressure and steam condensation mode, which is also dependent on steam mass flux and pool temperature, was found.
The Numerical study has been carried out to investigate the effects of chemical reaction and thermal radiation on the rocket plume flow-field at various altitudes. The theoretical formulation is based on the Navier-Stokes equations for compressible flows along with the infinitely fast chemistry and thermal radiation. The governing equations were solved by a finite volume fully-implicit TVD(Total Variation Diminishing) code which uses Roe's approximate Riemann solver and MUSCL(Monotone Upstream-centered Schemes for Conservation Laws) scheme. LU-SGS (Lower Upper Symmetric Gauss Seidel) method is used for the implicit solution strategy. An equilibrium chemistry module for hydrocarbon mixture with detailed thermo-chemical properties and a thermal radiation module for optically thin media were incorporated with the fluid dynamics code. In this study, kerosene-fueled rocket was assumed operating at O/F ratio of 2.34 with a nozzle expansion ratio of 6.14. Flight conditions considered were Mach number zero at ground level, Mach number 1.16 at altitude 5.06km and Mach number 2.9 at altitude 17.34km. Numerical results gave the understandings on the detailed plume structures at different altitude conditions. The diffusive effect of the thermal radiation on temperature field and the effect of chemical recombination during the expansion process could be also understood. By comparing the results from frozen flow and infinitely fast chemistry assumptions, the excess temperature of the exhaust gas resulting from the chemical recombination seems to be significant and cannot be neglected in the view point of performance, thermal protection and flow physics.

Starting characteristics of the axi-symmetric second throat exhaust diffuser (STED) with zero-secondary flows are numerically investigated. Renolds-Average Navier-Stokes equations with a standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model incorporated with enhanced wall treatment are solved to simulate the diffusing evolutions of the nozzle plume. Minimum (optimum) starting pressure difference of 20$\sim$25% between 1-D theory and the measured data validated from previous results[5] is also applied to predict the range of an effective diffuser expansion ratio (Ad/At) in this system.
Steam jet condensation is of great importance to pressure suppression containment and automatic depressurization system in nuclear power plant. In this paper, the condensation processes of sonic steam jet in a quiescent subcooled pool are recorded and analyzed, more precise understanding are got in direct contact condensation. Experiments are conducted at atmospheric pressure, and the steam is injected into the subcooled water pool through a vertical nozzle with the inner diameter of 10 mm, water temperature in the range of $25-60^{\circ}C$ and mass velocity in the range of $320-1080kg/m^2s$. Richardson number is calculated based on the conservation of momentum for single water jet and its values are in the range of 0.16-2.67. There is no thermal stratification observed in the water pool. Four condensation regimes are observed, including condensation oscillation, contraction, expansion-contraction and double expansion-contraction shapes. A condensation regime map is present based on steam mass velocity and water temperature. The dimensionless steam plume length increase with the increase of steam mass velocity and water temperature, and its values are in the range of 1.4-9.0. Condensation heat transfer coefficient decreases with the increase of steam mass velocity and water temperature, and its values are in the range of $1.44-3.65MW/m^2^{\circ}C$. New more accurate semi-empirical correlations for prediction of the dimensionless steam plume length and condensation heat transfer coefficient are proposed respectively. The discrepancy of predicted plume length is within ${\pm}10%$ for present experimental results and ${\pm}25%$ for previous researchers. The discrepancy of predicted condensation heat transfer coefficient is with ${\pm}12%$.

A genetic algorithm (GA) has been employed to optimize the major design variables of the liquid rocket engine. Pressure of the main combustion chamber, nozzle expansion ratio and O/F ratio have been selected as design variables. The target engine has the open gas generator cycle using the LO2/RP-1 propellant. The gas properties of the combustion chamber have been obtained from CEA2 and the mass has been estimated using reference data. The objective function has been set as multi-objective function with the specific impulse and thrust to weight ratio using the weight method. The result shows about 4% improvement of the specific impulse and 23% increase of the thrust to weight ratio. The Pareto frontier line has been also obtained for various thrust requirements.
