Single-drop splash/detachment studies and multiple-drop splash/detachment experiments were carried out to measure detachment by single and multiple drops. A raindrop tower 7.0 m in height was used to study soil splash by single drop raindrop impact over time on repacked soil samples in containers 76.2 mm in diameter. The waterdrop diameter and kinetic energy were 4.1 mm and $1.22{\times}10^{-3}$ J $drop^{-1}$, respectively. The samples consisted of five agricultural topsoils sieved to <2 mm, varying from sandy loam to clay loam in texture. The average weight of splashed soil particles after 75 drops did not show any significant difference between the five soils. The average weight of particles splashed by the first 15 drops showed that the sandy Pelham soil splashed to a greater degree than the others, and was therefore more detachable (p=0.05) than the other soils. The average weight of particles splashed by the last 15 drops also showed that the Pelham soil was the most detachable, with Cecil, Appling, Dyke, and Worsham soils being progressively less detachable. The effect of multiple drops on detachment was studied under a nozzle-type rainfall simulator at 74.9 mm $h^{-1}$ intensity for 85 min using the same soils as the single drop experiments. The total soil splash value for 85 min on Appling, Cecil, Dyke, Pelham, and Worsham soils were 6121, 6206, 4183, 5160, and 3247 g $m^{-2}$, respectively. There were no obvious relationships between soil loss measured from the different experiments.

Recently, research on cost reduction and efficiency improvement of crystalline silicon(c-Si) photovoltaic(PV) module has been conducted. In order to reduce costs, the thickness of solar cell wafers is becoming thinner. If the thickness of the wafer is reduced, cracking of wafer may occur in high temperature processes during the c-Si PV module manufacturing process. To solve this problem, a low temperature process has been proposed. Conductive paste(CP) is used for low temperature processing; it contains Sn57.6Bi0.4Ag component and can be electrically combined with solar cells and ribbons at a melting point of $150^{\circ}C$. Use of CP in the PV module manufacturing process can minimize cracks of solar cells. When CP is applied to solar cells, the output varies with the amount of CP, and so the optimum amount of CP must be found. In this paper, in order to find the optimal CP application amount, we manufactured several c-Si PV modules with different CP amounts. The amount control of CP is fixed at air pressure (500 kPa) and nozzle diameter 22G(outer diameter 0.72Ø, inner 0.42Ø) of dispenser; only speed is controlled. The c-Si PV module output is measured to analyze the difference according to the amount of CP and analyzed by optical microscope and Alpha-step. As the result, the optimum amount of CP is 0.452 ~ 0.544 g on solar cells.
To investigate the factors affecting the transportability of spray droplets, the maximum distance, the effective distance, the ratio of even distribution, and the diameters of particles were measured in accordance with the different pressure levels of power sprayer using 3 hole swath type nozzle, and the results are summerized as follows; 1. The distance of the most dense point from the nozzle was shortened by 0.5 meter with the 100-meter-long hose. The maximum reaching distances were reduced by 1.5 and 1.0 meters for the 13m/m and the 8.5 m/m hoses respectively, and the effective distance were reduced by 0.5 meter for both cases. 2. The effective distance can not be extended beyond 14 meters even if the length of hose is minimized at the rated pump pressure 28 kg/$cm^2$, it was 1 meter longer for 13m/m hose compared to the 8.5m/m one. 3. In case of 13m/m hose, the most dense point can be extended further by 0.5 meter increasing the pump pressure by 8 kg/$cm^2$, and the maximum distance and effective distance were increased by 2.0 and 0.5 meters respectively. There was no significant effect of pressure changes on the transportability in case of 8.5m/m hose. 4. Both the reduction of hose length and the increase of pump pressure influenced in large extent to the atomization effect of droplets. It was noticed that the diameter of droplet is related to the pump pressure and inside diameter of hose. 5. The pressure drop in 100-meter-long and l3m/m hose was 5~7kg/$cm^2$ at the pump pressure range of 25~33kg/$cm^2$, and it is an equivalent of 2% per 10 meter length of hose.

We investigated the physical/chemical phenomena that a slow loss of $CO_2$ inventory into sodium after the sodium-$CO_2$ boundary failure in printed circuit heat exchangers (PCHEs), which is considered for the supercritical $CO_2$ Brayton cycle power conversion system of a sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR). The first phenomenon is plugging inside narrow sodium channels by micro cracks and the other one is damage propagation referred to as wastage combined with the corrosion/erosion effect. Experimental results of plugging shows that sodium flow immediately stopped as $CO_2$ was injected through the nozzle at $300{\sim}400^{\circ}C$ in 3 mmID sodium channels, whereas sodium flow stopped about 60 min after $CO_2$ injection in 5 mmID sodium channels. These results imply that if pressure boundary of sodium-$CO_2$ fails a narrow sodium channel would be plugged by reaction products in a short time whereas a relatively wider sodium channel would be plugged with higher concentration of reaction products. Wastage by the erosion effect of $CO_2$ (200~250 bar) hardly occurred regardless of the kinds of materials (stainless steel 316, Inconel 600, and 9Cr-1Mo steel), temperature ($400{\sim}500^{\circ}C$), or the diameter of the $CO_2$ nozzle (0.2~0.8 mm). Velocities at the $CO_2$ nozzle were specified as Mach 0.4~0.7. Our experimental results are expected to be used for determining the design parameters of PCHEs for their safeties.
Gas hydrate is an inclusion compound consisting of water and low molecular weight gases, which are incorporated into the lattice structure of water. Owing to its promising aspect to application technologies, gas hydrate has been widely studied recently, especially $CO_2$ hydrate for the CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) issue. The key point of $CO_2$ hydrate technology for the CCS is how to produce gas hydrate in an efficient and economic way. In this study, we have tried to study the characteristic of gas hydrate formation using micro-sized ice through an ultrasonic nozzle which generate 2.4 MHz frequency wave. $CO_2$ as a carrier gas brings micro-sized mist into low-temperature reactor, where the mist and carrier gas forms $CO_2$ hydrate under $-55^{\circ}C$ and atmospheric pressure condition and some part of the mist also remains unreacted micro-sized ice. Formed gas hydrate was average 10.7 of diameter at average. The starting ice particle was set to constant pressure to form $CO_2$ hydrate and the consumed amount of $CO_2$ gas was simultaneously measured to calculate the conversion of ice into gas hydrate. Results showed that the gas hydrate formation was highly suitable because of its extremely high gas-solid contact area, and the formation rate was also very high. Self-preservation effect of $CO_2$ hydrate was confirmed by the measurement of $CO_2$ hydrate powder at normal and at pressed state, which resulted that this kind of gas storage and transport could be feasible using $CO_2$ hydrate formation.

This study was carried out to investigate the flow structure and mixing process of a cross mixing flow formed by two round jets with respect to the ratio of mass flow rate. This flow configuration is of great practical relevance in a variety of combustion systems, and the flow behaviour of a cross jet defends critically on the ratio of mass flow rate and the cross angle. The mass flow rate ratios of two different jets were controlled as 1.0, 0.8, 0.6, and 0.4, and the crossing angle of two round jets was fixed at 45 degree. The velocities issuing from jet nozzle with an exit diameter of 20mm were adjusted to 40m/s, 32m/s, 24m/s, and 16m/s, and the measurements have been conducted in the streamwise range of $1.1X_0$to $2.5X_0$ by an on-line measurement system consisted of a constant temperature type two channel hot-wire anemometry connected to a computer analyzing system. The original air flow was generated by a subsonic wind tunnel with reliable stabilities and uniform flows in the test section. For the analysis of the cross mixing flow structure in the downstream region after the cross point, the mean velocity profiles, the resultant velocity contours, and the three-dimensional profiles depending upon the mass flow rate ratio have been concentrately studied.
This review will be concentrated on the spray characteristics of bioethanol and its derived fuels such as ethanol-diesel, ethanol-biodiesel in compression ignition (CI) engines. The difficulty in meeting the severe limitations on NOx and PM emissions in CI engines has brought about many methods for the application of ethanol because ethanol diffusion flames in engine produce virtually no soot. The most popular method for the application of ethanol as a fuel in CI engines is the blending of ethanol with diesel. The physical properties of ethanol and its derivatives related to spray characteristics such as viscosity, density and surface tension are discussed. Viscosity and density of e-diesel and e-biodiesel generally are decreased with increase in ethanol content and temperature. More than 22% and 30% of ethanol addition would not satisfied the requirement of viscosity and density in EN 590, respectively. Investigation of neat ethanol sprays in CI engines was conducted by very few researchers. The effect of ambient temperature on liquid phase penetration is a controversial topic due to the opposite result between two studies. More researches are required for the spray characteristics of neat ethanol in CI engines. The ethanol blended fuels in CI engines can be classified into ethanol-diesel blend (e-diesel) and ethanol-biodiesel (e-biodiesel) blend. Even though dodecanol and n-butanol are rarely used, the addition of biodiesel as blend stabilizer is the prevailing method because it has the advantage of increasing the biofuel concentration in diesel fuel. Spray penetration and SMD of e-diesel and e-biodiesel decrease with increase in ethanol concentration, and in ambient pressure. However, spray angle is increased with increase in the ethanol percentage in e-diesel. As the ambient pressure increases, liquid phase penetration was decreased, but spray angle was increased in e-diesel. The increase in ambient temperature showed the slight effect on liquid phase penetration, but spray angle was decreased. A numerical study of micro-explosion concluded that the optimum composition of e-diesel binary mixture for micro-explosion was approximately E50D50, while that of e-biodiesel binary mixture was E30B70 due to the lower volatility of biodiesel. Adding less volatile biodiesel into the ternary mixture of ethanol-biodiesel-diesel can remarkably enhance micro-explosion. Addition of ethanol up to 20% in e-biodiesel showed no effect on spray penetration. However, increase of nozzle orifice diameter results in increase of spray penetration. The more study on liquid phase penetration and SMD in e-diesel and e-biodiesel is required.

We fabricates the $TiO_2$ thin film from anatase phase $TiO_2$ powder having good photocatalytic property using aerosol deposition method at room temperature. Aerosol deposition method, which sprays an aerosol powder with ultrasonic velocity and deposits a thin film on substrate at low temperature, has the advantages of low thermal stress and low cost. To fabricate the $TiO_2$ thin film, the aerosol bath pressure and chamber pressure were 500 torr and 0.4 torr, respectively. The difference of aerosol bath pressure and chamber pressure accelerated the $TiO_2$ nano powder to ultrasonic velocity through the nozzle of $0.4 mm{\times}10 mm$ and $TiO_2$ thin film was finally formed. SS mesh with diameter of 50 mm was used as a substrate to apply the $TiO_2$ thin film to water quality purification. The raw powder was dehydrated for the good dispersion of $TiO_2$ powder. To suppress the formation of second particle, the powder was dispersed for 90 min in alcohol bath by ultrasonic treatment and desiccated. The grain size of $1 {\mu}m$ was observed in $TiO_2$ thin film deposited on SUS mesh by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The anatase phase of $TiO_2$ thin film was also observed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the anatase phase of raw powder was nicely maintained after aerosol deposition. The results are applicable to water treatment filter having photocatalytic reaction.

From now on, in order to meet more stringer diesel emission standard, diesel vehicle should be equipped with emission after-treatment devices as NOx reduction catalyst and particulate filters. Urea-SCR is being developed as the most efficient method of reducing NOx emissions in the after-treatment devices of diesel engines, and recent studies have begun to mount the urea-SCR device for diesel passenger cars and light duty vehicles. That is because their operational characteristics are quite different from heavy duty vehicles, urea solution injection should be changed with other conditions. Therefore, the number and diameter of the nozzle, injection directions, mounting positions in front of the catalytic converter are important design factors. In this study, major design parameters concerning urea solution injection in front of SCR are optimized by using a CFD analysis and Taguchi method. The computational prediction of internal flow and spray characteristics in front of SCR was carried out by using STAR-CCM+7.06 code that used to evaluate $NH_3$ uniformity index($NH_3$ UI). The design parameters are optimized by using the $L_{16}$ orthogonal array and small-the-better characteristics of the Taguchi method. As a result, the optimal values are confirmed to be valid in 95% confidence and 5% significance level through analysis of variance(ANOVA). The compared maximize $NH_3$ UI and activation time($NH_3$ UI 0.82) are numerically confirmed that the optimal model provides better conversion efficiency of $NH_3$. In addition, we propose a method to minimize wall-wetting around the urea injector in order to prevent injector blocks caused by solid urea loading. Consequently, the thickness reduction of fluid film in front of mixer is numerically confirmed through the mounting mixer and correcting injection direction by using the trial and error method.
In order to further determine the mass concentration and ion composition of size-segregated particulate matter (PM) during the non-Asian dust storm of spring, $PM_{2.5}$ (fine particle), $PM_{10-2.5}$ (coarse particle), and $PM_{over-10}$ (PM with an aerodynamic diameter larger than $10{\mu}m$) were collected using a MCI (multi-nozzle cascade impactor) sampler of a three-stage filter pack in the spring season of 2007 in the Iksan area. During the sampling period from 5 April to 21 April, a total of 34 samples for size-segregated PM were collected, and then measured for PM mass concentrations by gravimetric measurements and for water-soluble inorganic ion species by using ion chromatography. Average mass concentrations of $PM_{2.5}$, $PM_{10-2.5}$, $PM_{over-10}$ were $35.4{\pm}11.5{\mu}g/m^3$, $13.3{\pm}5.5{\mu}g/m^3$ and $9.5{\pm}4.7{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively. On average, $PM_{2.5}$ accounted for 74% of $PM_{10}$. Compared with the literature from other areas in Korea, the measured concentration of $PM_{2.5}$ were relatively high. Water-soluble inorganic ion fractions in $PM_{2.5}$, $PM_{10-2.5}$, and $PM_{over-10}$ were found to be 47.8%, 28.5%, and 14.7%, respectively. Among the water-soluble inorganic ion species, $SO_4^{2-}$, $NO_3^-$ and $NH_4^+$ were the main components in $PM_{2.5}$, while $NO_3^-$ dominantly existed in both $PM_{10-2.5}$ and $PM_{over-10}$. Non-seasalt $SO_4^{2-}$ (nss-$SO_4^{2-}$ and $NO_3^-$ were found to mainly exist as the neutralized chemical components of $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ and $NH_4NO_3$ in fine particles.
