Double-talk detection errors can result in either large residual echo or distorting the near-end talker's input speech. Thus accurate double-talk detection is an important problem in the acoustic echo canceller to improve the speech quality. In the double-talk detection algorithm using a cross-correlation coefficient, double-talk detection errors can occur in the initial convergence period of an adaptive filter or in noisy environment since the cross-correlation coefficient becomes large in such situations. In this paper, we propose a new double-talk detection algorithm based on the cross-correlation method using a normalized error signal power to reduce the double-talk detection errors. The experimental results have shown the performance improvement of an acoustic echo canceller as well as the noise-robustness of the proposed double-talk detector.

A normalization approach to coefficient adaptation in the escalator(ESC) filter structure that conventionally employs least mean square(LMS) algorithm is introduced. Using Taylor's expansion of the local error signal, a normalized form of the ESC-LMS algorithm is derived. Compared with the computational complexity of the conventional ESC-LMS algorithm employs input power estimation for time-varying convergence coefficient using a single-pole low-pass filter, the computational complexity of the proposed method can be reduced by 50% without performance degradation.
In this paper, we have analyzed the block error probability of orthogonal multicarrier 16 QAM signal in a frequency selective Rician fading environment. The block error probability is evaluated with several parameters such as normalized propagation delay $(\gamma/T_S),$, bit energy to noise power ratio $(E_b/N_0),$ and desired signal to undesired signal power ratio (DUR) in fast fading and slow fading channels. In the fast fading channel, The result shows that the block error probability rather in the fast fading channel achieves better performance than in the slow fading channel, when the error correction capability is one or two.
In this paper, a new robust adaptive algorithm and a post-processing method are proposed to improve the performance of AEC without computational burden. Its step-size is normalized by the sum of the powers of the reference input signal and the desired signal. When the near-end speaker's speech and noise are applied into the microphone, the step-size becomes small and the misalignment of coefficients are reduced. To reduce the residual echoes, a new post-processing method, which is co-operated with the proposed noise-robust adaptive algorithm, is proposed in this paper. The method is based on the correlation of the desired signal and the estimation error signal. The residual echoes are attenuated as proportional to the correlation normalized with the power of desired signals. The normalized correlation plays a role as Wiener filter for residual echoes. In the double-talk situation, the estimation error signals, that are residual echoes, dominantly include the near-end speaker's speech and the normalized correlation closes to 1. Therefore, the near-end speaker's speech can be transmitted without being attenuated. When the desired signals consists of only the acoustic echoes, the residual echoes are mostly attenuated and canceled by the proposed post-processor. The computation of AEC using the proposed post-processor is comparable to NLMS algorithm.
The performance of blind source separation(BSS) using independent component analysis (ICA) declines significantly in a reverberant environment. A post-processing method proposed in this paper was designed to remove the residual component precisely. The proposed method used modified NLMS(normalized least mean square) filter in frequency domain, to estimate cross-talk path that causes residual cross-talk components. Residual cross-talk components in one channel is correspond to direct components in another channel. Therefore, we can estimate cross-talk path using another channel input signals from adaptive filter. Step size is normalized by input signal power in conventional NLMS filter, but it is normalized by sum of input signal power and error signal power in modified NLMS filter. By using this method, we can prevent misadjustment of filter weights. The estimated residual cross-talk components are subtracted by non-stationary spectral subtraction. The computer simulation results using speech signals show that the proposed method improves the noise reduction ratio(NRR) by approximately 3dB on conventional FDICA.

Coefficients of the adaptive filter are misadjusted by primary signals which are uncorrelated with reference signals of the adaptive filter. In this paper, the normalized sign algorithm is analyzed and compared with the NLMS algorithm by the steady state performance and the transient characteristics when target signals are included in primary signals. The excess mean square error of the NLMS algorithm is proportional to the power of target signals. That of normalized sign algorithm is proportional to the square root of the target signal power. However, the convergence speed of the normalized sign algorithm is slower than that of NLMS algorithm. In this paper, it is shown that theoretical analysis of the steady state performance and the transient characteristics are well consisted with the results of computer simulation.

This paper proposes a setup for a best multisine design method that uses a time-domain optimization. The method is based on minimization of the time-domain error, so its resulting multisine has a very accurate ACLR estimation. This is because its probability distribution and sample-to-sample correlation are close to those of the original signal, which are crucial for the testing of nonlinear power amplifiers. In addition, a hyperbolic-tangent function is introduced to control the ripple of tone magnitudes within signal bandwidth. For the verification, multisines were generated and compared for many aspects such as normalized error, in-band ripple, and ACLR estimation. Test results with different numbers of tones provide supporting evidence that the suggested multisine design has better ripple suppression, by up to 7 dB, and better accuracy, by up to 0.2 dB, when compared to the conventional method. The accuracy of the ACLR was improved by about 5 dB when the number of tones was 4. The suggested method improves the ACLR estimation performance of multisine testing due to its closer resemblance to the target modulation signal.
Wireless power transmission (WPT) for wireless charging is currently attracting much attention as a promising approach to miniaturize batteries and increase the maximum total range of an electric vehicle. The main advantage of the laser power beam (LPB) approach is its high power transmission efficiency (PTE) over long distance. In this paper, we present the design of a laser power beam based WPT system, which has a best WPT channel selection technique at the receiver end when multiple power transmitters and single power receiver are operated simultaneously. The transmitters send their transmission channel information via optically modulated laser pulses. The receiver uses the received signal strength indicator and digitized data to choose an optimum power transmission path. We modeled a vertical multi-junction photovoltaic cell array, and conducted an experiment and simulation to test the feasibility of this system. From the experimental result, the standard deviation between the mathematical model and the measured values of normalized energy distribution is 0.0052. The error between the mathematical model and measured values are acceptable, thus the validity of the model is verified.

This paper studies a method for reducing performance degradation due to losing sub-carrier orthogonality caused by power transient between physical channels in LTE uplink transmission. The pattern of inter-carrier interference(ICI) caused by power transient is different from what has been studied for doppler shift, in that its pattern occurs at front and rear sides of channels in each period of power transient. The reason of ICI's occurrence results from power difference between channels, power transient duration, multi-path channel delay spread, and numbers of sub-carrier. New criterion is proposed to find out number of taps of multi-tap equalizer enough to improve the ICI. The scheme is to determine the number of taps of multi-tap equalizer when a normalized interference or a normalized ICI is greater than a normalized noise. Simulation results show that the number of taps is flexibly adjusted according to SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) of a received signal to improve Bit Error Rate(BER), while the complexity of the proposed scheme is reduced down to 88 percentage of the classical method.
In this paper, a new orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with 3-dimensional (3-D) signal mapper is proposed. Here, the signal mapper consists of signals on the surface of Poincare sphere. If the signal points are uniformly distributed and normalized to have the same average power, the minimum Euclidean distance of a 3-D constellation is much larger than that of a 2-D constellation. Computer simulation shows that the proposed OFDM has much improved error performance as compared with the conventional system.
