Chitin is a derived product from the shell of shrimp or crab. Chitosan, a deacetylated product of chitin, has widely been used in the biomedical sector, food industry, and textile industry. Chitosan exhibits fiber-forming property under certain conditions. Nonwoven fabrics made of chitosan fibers may have diverse applications in the industry. Previous studies have revealed that the dye uptake properties of natural dyestuffs improved by the chitosan pretreatment on the fabric specimens. In this case, fabric specimen is coated with acidic salt form of chitosan, which is different from the pure chitosan, since the coating process employes coating with the acidic solution of the chitosan and subesquent drying. In this study, chitosan nonwoven fabric samples were prepared from chitosan sample having deacetylation degree of $100\%$ and molecular weight of 650,000. Chitosan nonwoven fabrics maintain the form of $-NH_2$ end-group. These in turn exhibit higher dye uptake ability than the fabrics coated with chitosan acidic solutions do.

The use of blankets to preserve heat in oriental melon cultivation is a common practise without artificial heating and warming systems. Efficiency of blanket decreased with annually usage. This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of double layer nonwoven fabrics on heat conservation, plant growth, fruit quality and yield of oriental melon in greenhouse. The results were compared among the non-woven fabrics of 9+3, 6+6, 6+3 and 12 ounce from transplanting to April 20, 2001, 2002. Night temperature within tunnel was high at 9+3, 6+6, 6+3 and 12 ounce in order. In plant growth, stem length, leaf numbers and exudate, under double layer nonwoven fabrics were better than single layer blanket of 12 ounce especially, 9+3 double layer blanket was the best. Fruit weight, flesh thickness, soluble solid and marketable yield rate remained same in all treatments. Fermented fruit rate was the highest in 12 ounce as $32.9\%,\;19.6\%\;under\;9+3,\;17.1\%\;under\;6+6,\;16.6\%$ under 6+3 double layer nonwoven fabric, respectively. Compared to 2,260kg yield per 10a of 12 ounce single layer nonwoven fabrics, $7\%$ was increased under 9+3 but $3\%\;and\;13\%$ were decreased under 6+6 and 6+3 double layer nonwoven fabrics, respectively. Compared to income, 4,499-thousand-won per 10a, of 12 ounce single layer blanket, $13\%\;and\;3$ were increased under 9+3 and 6+6 double layer nonwoven fabrics, respectively. Whereas, $10\%$ decreased under 6+3 double layer nonwoven fabrics. From this results it is evident that 9+3 double layer nonwoven fabrics was the best for thermokeeping, fruit quality, and was most economic under non heating system.
Nylon 6 and polyester taffeta fabrics are dyed in aqueous medium with vat dyes such as Indanthren Red FBB, Mikethren Blue ACE and Mikethren Blue HR varying the compositions of sodium hydrosulfite and NaOH. Also nylon UMF nonwoven and polyester UMF knitted fabrics are dyed with metal complex and disperse dyes as a reference, and the wash and rubbing fastnesses for these dyes are investigated. In vat dyeing of polyester and nylon taffeta, an optimum composition of sodium hydrosulfite/NaOH is existed at a range of 1∼2wt%/0.2wt%. A good build-up property for Mikethren Blue ACE on nylon 6 UMF nonwoven fabric is shown at high temperature. Vat dyeing of polyester with Mikethren Blue Ace shows a good color shade in a higher temperature, while dyeing with Mitsui Blue HR shows low temperatures. Vat dyes In dyeing of both nylon 6 UMF nonwoven and polyester UMF knitted fabrics have a better wash fastnesses compared with metal complex or disperse dyes.

Chitosan, a natural polymer has been used to nonwoven fabrics based polypropylene for sanitary top sheets. The changes in mechanical properties relating to the surface structure of functionally improved nonwoven fabrics were investigated with respect to the molecular weight and concentration of chitosan that was used. Low molecular weight(LMW) chitosan treated fabric was found to be evenly coated on the fabrics. It was shown that the bending and shearing characteristics of chitosan treated fabrics increased, which helped to make it stronger and harder, while shape stability improved following treatment using high molecular weight(HMW) chitosan. And the surface structure of treated fabrics was smooth and the sensitivity of its bulk improved somewhat. The treated fabrics were not overly stiff because the increase in Koshi value was not considerable compared to that of the bending characteristics. In the change of hand value relating to chitosan treated fabrics, THV generally improved. In the case of a 0.5$\%$ chitosan, HMW chitosan treated fabrics produced better THV than LMW chitosan treated fabrics. However, in the case of a 1.0$\%$ chitosan, THV of LMW chitosan treated fabrics produced outstanding results.

In this study, alginate-gelatin/silk wet-laid nonwoven fabrics were prepared by using alginate gelatin fiber and silk fiber, as the main fiber, and PVA fiber as binder fiber. The characterization of pore size and mechanical property was carried out on the various weight ratios of alginate gelatin fiber and silk fibers, or the adding binder fibers. As the content of silk or binder fiber increases, the tensile strength increases from 0.70 kgf/㎠ to 5.08 kgf/㎠ and the pore size decreases 111.6 ㎛ to 51.00 ㎛. As the weight of the silk increased, the density increased, and binder fiber was added to enhance the cohesion between fibers, thereby increasing the wet-laid nonwoven fabric strength. We studied on wet-laid nonwoven fabrics that can be applied to mask sheet with adjustable pore size.
The purpose of this study were to investigate characteristic changes on nonwoven fabric for disposable work clothes by the yellow soil printing. It separate grind yellow soil as two different size of particles $45\sim52{\mu}m$ and $53\sim65{\mu}m$ for hand screen printing on three kind of nonwoven fabrics. To examine the effect of yellow soil printing on nonwoven fabric were to observe, dyeability by using spectrophotometer, moisture regain by oven method, air permeability, anion property and antibacterial activity. The results were as follows: When yellow soil concentration increased from 5 to 10%, K/S value also increased from 1.05 to 1.88. When yellow soil concentration increased, moisture regain also increased. In same concentration, moisture regain occurred higher as particle of small size. Air permeability decreased when the charcoal printing concentration increased. Anion occurrence appeared $140\sim160ion/cc$ from three different kinds of nonwoven fabrics in 3% and 9% yellow soil concentration. Therefore, occurred anion ineffectively. In concentration of 3%, rate of deodorization measured as 89%, 83% and 87%, and 9% concentration caused 96%, 86% and 93% of high deodorization. Antibacterial activity examination in nonfinished nonwoven fabric resulted range of 60%, however, 3% and 9% concentration finished nonwoven fabric resulted 99.9% of excellent antibacterial activity Surface temperature increased $1.5\sim2^{\circ}C$ by yellow soil finishing.

The goal of this research is to investigate the effect of fusible interlinings on the mechanical characteristics and appearance related values for the Lyocell fabrics. In this study, to establish optimum fusing conditions, peel strength of the fused fabrics depending on the fusing temperature, pressure and time was measured. Appearance related properties and mechanical characteristics of the fused fabrics ere determined. The reulst are as follows: In the fusing condition of $120^{\circ}C,\;3kgf/textrm{cm}^2$, 15sec, peel strength was excellent. Peel strength was excellent in the case of tencel/cotton fabric, with increasing cover factor of woven interlining, with twill and nonwoven interlining. Flex stiffness was increased in the case of tencel/cotton fabric, with increasing weight of woven interlining, with twill and nonwoven interlining. Drapability was excellent in the case of 100% tencel fabric, with decreasing weight of woven interlining, with plain and woven interlining. Crease recovery was excellent in the case of 100% tencel fabric, with increasing weight of woven interlining, with twill and woven interlining. Shear and bend properties were increased in the case of tencel/cotton fabric, with increasing weight of woven interlining, with plain and nonwoven interlining.

The main objective of this work is to develop melt-blown nonwoven fabric composite materials have electromagnetic shielding characteristics using thin copper film. Melt-blown nonwoven fabric is the matrix phase and thin copper films are the reinforcement of the composite materials. Thin copper films are incorporated as conductive fillers to provide the electromagnetic shielding property of the melt-blown nonwoven fabric. The width and interval of thin copper films in the nonwoven fabric are varied by changing 1, 3, 5 mm for thin copper film's width and 1, 3, 5 mm for thin copper film's interval. The shielding effectiveness(SE) of various melt-blown nonwoven fabrics is measured in the frequency range of 50 MHz to 1.8 GHz. The variations of SE of melt-blown nonwoven fabric with width and interval of thin copper films are described. Suitability of melt-blown nonwoven fabric for electromagnetic shielding applications is discussed. The results indicate that the melt-blown nonwoven fabric composite material using thin copper film can be used for the purpose of electromagnetic shielding.

Pesticide protective clothing has not been frequently worn due to its lack of thermal comfort. It is important to develop fabrics which can allow the wearer to work in comfort. One of the possible way to achieve the goal is to produce fabrics with a water- and oil-repellent finish which would resist pesticide penetration but maintain some breathability. The purpose of this study were to evaluate the pesticide barrier properties of untreated and water- and oil-repellent finished nonwoven fabrics. Three types of nonwoven fabrics(Tyvek, Sontara and Kimlon) were used as test specimens. By pad-dry-cure method, each of the specimen was treated with fluorocarbon. The pesticide barrier properties (amount of pesticide penetration and residue) were measured by the gas chromatography. The performance properties of untreated and treated specimens were evaluated with respects to water pepellency(KS K 0590), oil repellency(AATCC 118), water resistance(KS K 0591, AATCC 42), water vapor transmission (KS A 1013) and air permeability(KS K 0570). The results of this study were as follows : 1) The untreated Sontara showed much more amount of pesticide penetration than untreated Tyvek and Kimlon, while the treated Sontara showed little amount of pesticide penetration. 2) After laundering, the amount of pesticide residue in the untreated and treated Sontara was less than that in Tyvek and in Kimlon. 3) Water- and oil-repellent finish improved water repellency, oil repellency, and water resistance of specimens. 4) The untreated Sontara and Kimlon showed higher water vapor transmission and air permeability than untreated Tyvek. Water vapor transmission and air permeability of treated specimen decreased compared to those of untreated.

The objectives of this study mere 1) to investigate whether the different nonwoven fabric types influenced on the objective and subjective wear performances of the experimental pesticide protective pants, 2) to detect whether the different finishes treated to the nonwoven fabrics influenced on the objective and subjective wear performances of the experimental pants, and 3) to detect the relationships between objective wear performances and subjective wear sensation. Three types of nonwoven fabrics (T (Tyvek$\textregistered$), 5 (Sontara$\textregistered$) and K (Kimlon$\textregistered$)) were used as test specimens. By pad-dry.cure method, each of the specimen was treated with fluorocarbon compound for water-oil repellent finish (Tw, Sw, Kw). And each of specimen was treated with organic silicon quarternary ammonium salts and then treated with fluorocabon compound for dual functional finish (76, 50, Kd). Using the three water-oil repellent finished fabrics and the three dual functional finished fabrics, six experimental protective pants (Cl (Tw), C2 (Sw), C3 (Kw), C4 (76), C5 (56), C6 (Kd)) were made according to the same pattern suggested by the Rual Guidance Office. The wear trials of experimental pesticide protective pants were performed in a conditioned vinyl plastic hothouse ($30\pm1^{\circ}C$, $70\pm5%$R.H., 0.25m/sec air velocity). The measurements of skin temperature, microclimate temperature and humidity on the subjects were obtained by the themohygromenter. The subjective wear sensations were measured using previously developed thermal, humidity and overall comfort scales. The results obtained from this study were as follows: 1) There were siginificant differences among nonwoven fabric types on the objective and subjective wear performances, therefore, the skin temperature, microclimate temperature and humidity of subjects who wore the experimental pants made with Sontara were siginificantly lower than those who wore the others. And, the experimental pants made with Sontara were assessed as more comfortable than the others in terms of the subjective thermal, humidity and overall wear sensations. 2) There were no significant differences between two finish types on the objective and subjective wear Performances. 3) The microclimate humidity on the thigh was highly correlated with the overall subjective comfort sensations and the next highly correlated one was the mean skin temperature. That is, the higher the microclimate humidity and the mean skin temperature, the higher the overall subjective comfort sensation ratings which mean the overall subjective sensation was very uncomfortable.
