  • This paper discusses about real time control applying sliding mode to robot manipulators whose nonlinear terms, which are inertia term, Corilis term and centrifugal force mterm, are regarded as disturbances. We could simplify the dynamic equations of a manipulator and servo system, which are composed of linear elements and nonlinear elements, by assuming that non-linear terms are external disturbance. By simplifying that equation, we could easily obtain a control input which satisfy sliding mode. We proposed a new control input algorithm to decrease chattering in the application of sliding mode control of manipulator whose nonlinear elements are regarded as disturbances. We could take impulse response of linear elements of dynamic equations of a robot manipulator and servo system by Signal Compression Method. So then, we could obtain the unknown parametes of its linear lements, which are used to obtain switching parameter satisfying sliding mode, by Signal Compression Method. In this experiments, we used DSP(Digital Signal Processor) controller to suppress chattering by obtaining a switching speed and to carry out real time control.

  • A problem of sliding mode control is chattering because of controle input signal included unknown disturbance and nonlinear input parameters. This paper presents a sliding mode controller design to inverted pendulum system. In this paper, a sliding mode control algorithm to reduce a chattering is proposed. The reduction of chattering is accomplished by smoothing function for nonlinear control input. In this method, the dynamic equations of the inverted pendulum is decoupled by considering nonlinear parameters and external disturbances. Therefore, this study is applied to obtain switching control inputs for sliding mode controller. The proposed technique is tested to the control of inverted pendulum through computer simulations. The result shown reduced chattering in control input.

  • Nonlinear robust attitude controller for 3-axis stabilized spacecraft is designed. Robust stability analysis for nonlinear spacecraft system with disturbance is conducted. External disturbances and parametric uncertainties decrease Spacecraft's attitude pointing accuracy. Sliding Mode Control(SMC) provides stability of system in the face of these disturbances and uncertainties. The concept of quadratic boundedness and quadratic stability are applied to the robust analysis for the nonlinear spacecraft system subject to bounded disturbance torques. Numerical simulation is conducted to compare the analysis result and actual nonlinear simulation. The simulation show that analysis result is valid.

  • Sliding mode control of spacecraft attitude tracking with actuator, especially reaction wheel, is presented. The sliding mode controller is derived based on quaternion parameterization for the kinematic equations of motion. The reaction wheel dynamic equations represented by wheel input voltage are presented. The input voltage to wheel is calculated from the sliding mode controller and reaction wheel dynamics. The global asymptotic stability is shown using a Lyapunov analysis. In addition the robustness analysis is taken for nonlinear system with parameter variations and disturbances. It is shown that the controller ensures control objectives for the spacecraft with reaction wheels.

  • In this note, a new robust nonlinear output feedback variable structure controller is first systematically and generally designed for the output control of more affine uncertain nonlinear systems with mismatched uncertainties and matched disturbance. A transformed integral output feedback sliding surface with a most simple form is applied in order to remove the reaching phase problems. The closed loop exponential stability and the existence condition of the sliding mode on the integral output feedback sliding surface is investigated with a corresponding output feedback control input in Theorem 1. For practical application the continuous implementation of the control input is made by the modified saturation function. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is verified through a design example and simulation study.

  • This paper presents findings on the second-order sliding-mode controller for a nuclear research reactor. Sliding-mode controllers for nuclear reactors have been used for some time, but higher-order sliding-mode controllers have the added advantage of reduced chattering. The nonlinear model of Pakistan Research Reactor-1 has been used for higherorder sliding-mode controller design and performance evaluation. The reactor core is simulated based on point kinetics equations and one delayed neutron groups. The model assumes feedback from lumped fuel and coolant temperatures. The effect of xenon concentration is also considered. The employed method is easy to implement in practical applications, and the second-order sliding-mode control exhibits the desired dynamic properties during the entire output-tracking process. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller in terms of performance, robustness, and stability.

  • In this note, a systematic design of a new robust nonlinear continuous variable structure control system(VSCS) based on the modified state dependent nonlinear form is presented for the control of uncertain affine nonlinear systems with mismatched uncertainties and matched disturbance. After an affine uncertain nonlinear system is represented in the form of state dependent nonlinear system, a systematic design of a new robust nonlinear VSCS is presented. The uncertainty of the nonlinear system function is separated into the tow parts, i.e., state dependent term and state independent term for extension of target plants. To be linear in the closed loop resultant dynamics and in order to easily satisfy the existence condition of the sliding mode, the transformed linear sliding surface is applied. A corresponding control input is proposed to satisfy the closed loop exponential stability and the existence condition of the sliding mode on the linear transformed sliding surface, which will be investigated in Theorem 1. For practical application, the discontinuity of the control input as the inherent property of the VSS is improved dramatically. Through a design example and simulation studies, the usefulness of the proposed controller is verified.

  • In this paper, a robust control scheme of a nonlinear system with norm bounded uncertainty is studied. The proposed algorithm is based on variable structure systems (VSS) theory. the sliding mode which is robust to plant uncertainty and disturbances is obtained by regulating a sliding surface equation. This VSS control law can improve the robustness of control systems by adjusting the minimum reaching velocity in a reaching phase. A numerical example is given to verify the effectiveness of the control law.
