  • The objective of this paper is to develop computer programs to aid in the design and analysis of control systems in which nonlinear characteristics exist. Control systems are dynamic systems, which can be described using various mathematical models. A convenient model for digital computer simulation is the state model in which described using a set of linear and non linear first order differential equations. The digital simulation was performed on a IBM PC/XT personal computer, and the computer language was BASIC. There are four possible configurations from which a user may choose. When running a program, the user is asked to enter the system parameters according to a specified control system configurations are; 1. A control system with a nonlinear element followed by a plant in a feedback configurations(NLSVF1). 2. A control system with a nonlinear device situated between two plants in a feedback configurations(NLSVF2). 3. A control system with a nonlinear element followed by a plant, followed by a the dealy in feedback configurations(TLAG). 4. A motor and load with a backlash nonlinearity between dynamic portions of the motor/load configurations (BACKLASH). The matrix from state equations are integrated using combination the trapezoidal method and fixed point iteration. Several cases which have nonlinearity were implemented on the computer and the results were discussed.

  • In this lecture I shall discuss some recent progress in the development of methods for attacking the central questions of the formation and structure of singularities and of global regularity for solutions of the Cauchy problem for nonlinear systems of partial differential equations of hyperbolic type. Applications to the Einstein equations of general relativity and to the equations of compressible fluid flow shall be particularly emphasized and detailed.

  • In this paper we consider inverse problem for a general class of nonlinear stochastic differential equations on Hilbert spaces whose generating operators (drift, diffusion and jump kernels) are unknown. We introduce a class of function spaces and put a suitable topology on such spaces and prove existence of optimal generating operators from these spaces. We present also necessary conditions of optimality including an algorithm and its convergence whereby one can construct the optimal generators (drift, diffusion and jump kernel).

  • In this paper, we develop a symmetric Galerkin method with interior penalty terms to construct fully discrete approximations of the solution for nonlinear Sobolev equations. To analyze the convergence of discontinuous Galerkin approximations, we introduce an appropriate projection and derive the optimal $L^2$ error estimates.

  • In this paper, we develop discontinuous Galerkin methods with penalty terms, namaly symmetric interior penalty Galerkin methods to solve nonlinear parabolic equations. By introducing an appropriate projection of u onto finite element spaces, we prove the optimal convergence of the fully discrete discontinuous Galerkin approximations in ${\ell}^2(L^2)$ normed space.

  • A tubular reactor model represented by partial differential equations was studied as one of nonlinear distributed parameter optimal control problems. An optimal control theory in the form of maximum principles based on nonlinear integral equations was used to develop an algorithm to solve the problem.

  • This paper presents a method to design Kalman filter on continuous stochastic dynamical systems via BPFT(block pulse functions transformation). When we design Kalman filter, minimum error valiance matrix is appeared as a form of nonlinear matrix differential equations. Such equations are very difficult to obtain the solutions. Therefore, in this paper, we simply obtain the solutions of nonlinear matrix differential equations from recursive algebraic equations using BPFT. We believe that the presented method is very attractive and proper for the evaluation of Kalman gain on continuous stochastic dynamical systems.

  • The modal characteristics of constrained multibody systems undergoing constant accelerated motions are investigated in this paper. Relative coordinates are employed to derive the equations of motion, which are generally nonlinear in terms of the coordinates. The dynamic equilibrium position of a constrained multibody system needs to be obtained from the nonlinear equations of motion, which are then linearized at the dynamic equilibrium position. The mass and the stiffness matrices for the modal analysis can be obtained from the linearized equations of motion. To verify the effectiveness and the accuracy of the proposed method, two numerical examples are solved and the results obtained by using the proposed method are compared with those obtained by analytical and other numerical methods. The proposed method is found to be accurate as well as effective in predicting the modal characteristics of constrained multibody systems undergoing constant accelerated motions.

  • The forced vibrations of nondissipative nonlinear two-degree-of-freedom system, subjected to periodic forcing functions, are investigated by use of the method of slowly changing phase and amplitude. The first order differential equations are derived for nonrationally solutions and the coupled nonlinear algebraic equations for stationary solutions. Through investigating the response curves of the system, which are obtained numerically by using Newton-Raphson method, it is found that the resonances can occur at more than the number of degree-of-freedom of the system depending on the relation between the nonlinear spring parameters, which has no counterpart in linear systems.
