  • In this paper, we use Bayesian method for model selection of poisson vs. negative binomial distribution, and normal, double exponential vs. cauchy distribution. The fractional Bayes factor of O'Hagan (1995) was applied to Bayesian model selection under the assumption of noninformative improper priors for all parameters in the models. Through the analyses of real data and simulation data, we examine the usefulness of the fractional Bayes factor in comparison with intrinsic Bayes factors of Berger and Pericchi (1996, 1998).

  • In this thesis, Bayesian parameter estimation procedure is discussed for the mean change model of multivariate normal random variates under the assumption of noninformative priors for all the parameters. Parameters are estimated by Gibbs sampling method. In Gibbs sampler, the change point parameter is generated by Metropolis-Hastings algorithm. We apply our methodology to numerical data to examine it.

  • In this paper, we consider the hypothesis testing for the homogeneity of the shape parameters in the gamma distributions. The noninformative priors such as Jeffreys# prior or reference prior are usually improper which yields a calibration problem that makes the Bayes factor to be defined up to a multiplicative constant. So we propose the objective Bayesian testing procedure for the homogeneity of the shape parameters based on the fractional Bayes factor and the intrinsic Bayes factor under the reference prior. Simulation study and a real data example are provided.

  • A simultaneous test criterion for multiple hypotheses concerning comparison of two multivariate normal populations is considered by using the so called Bayes factor method. Fully parametric frequentist approach for the test is not available and thus Bayesian criterion is pursued using a Bayes factor that eliminates its arbitrariness problem induced by improper priors. Specifically, the fractional Bayes factor (FBF) by O'Hagan (1995) is used to derive the criterion. Necessary theories involved in the derivation an computation of the criterion are provided. Finally, an illustrative simulation study is given to show the properties of the criterion.

  • In this paper, we consider the Bayesian hypotheses testing for independence and symmetry in Freund's bivariate exponential model. In Bayesian testing problem, we use the noninformative priors for parameters which are improper and are defined only up to arbitrary constants. And we use the recently proposed hypotheses testing criterion called the intrinsic Bayes factor. Also we derive the arithmetic and median intrinsic Bayes factors and use these results to analyze some data sets.

  • This article deals with the problem of testing the equality of the location parameters in the half-normal distributions. We propose Bayesian hypothesis testing procedures for the equality of the location parameters under the noninformative prior. The non-informative prior is usually improper which yields a calibration problem that makes the Bayes factor to be defined up to arbitrary constants. This problem can be deal with the use of the fractional Bayes factor or intrinsic Bayes factor. So we propose the default Bayesian hypothesis testing procedures based on the fractional Bayes factor and the intrinsic Bayes factors under the reference priors. Simulation study and an example are provided.

  • Rainfall weather patterns have changed due to global warming and sudden heavy rainfalls have become more frequent. Economic loss due to heavy rainfall has increased. We study the generalized Pareto distribution for modelling rainfall in Seoul based on data from 1973 to 2008. We use several priors including Jeffrey's noninformative prior and Gibbs sampling method to derive Bayesian posterior predictive distributions. The probability of heavy rainfall has increased over the last ten years based on estimated posterior predictive distribution.
