A solution is given for the elastodynamic problem of a crack perpendicular to the graded interfacial zone in bonded materials under the action of anti plane shear impact. The interfacial zone is modeled as a nonhomogeneous interlayer with the power-law variations of its shear modulus and mass density between the two dissimilar, homogeneous half-planes. Laplace and Fourier integral transforms are employed to reduce the transient problem to the solution of a Cauchy-type singular integral equation in the Laplace transform domain. Via the numerical inversion of the Laplace transforms, the values of the dynamic stress intensity factors are obtained as a function of time. As a result, the influences of material and geometric parameters of the bonded media on the overshoot characteristics of the dynamic stress intensities are discussed. A comparison is also made with the corresponding elastostatic solutions, addressing the inertia effect on the dynamic load transfer to the crack tips for various combinations of the physical properties.
A steady dilute premixed combustion at transonic speeds in a diverging channel is investigated. The model explores the nonlinear interactions between the near-sonic speed of the flow, the small changes in geometry from a straight channel, and the small heat release due to the one-step first-order Arrhenius chemical reaction. The reactive flow can be described by a nonhomogeneous transonic small-disturbance (TSD) equation coupled with an ordinary differencial equation for the calculation of the reactant mass fraction in the combustible gas. The asymptotic analysis results in the similarity parameters that govern the reacting flow problem. The model is used to study transonic combustion at various amounts of incoming, reactant mass, reaction rates, and channel geometries.

In this paper, the modeling and analysis of dynamic characteristics has been carried out for friction clutches and brakes in an automatic transmission. From the operating oil pressure generated by the valve-body, time delay by check valve and the movement of piston has been examined. Also torque capacity and torque transferred at the clutch is studied. Heat capacity and temperature distribution at the reaction plate of clutch are codeled by time-dependent, nonhomogeneous partial differential equation, and brake torque, brake time, and the amount of heat generated are investigated. It is found that the time delay at the check valve is very short but dominant at the spool.
This paper is concerned with the method of estimating lifetime distribution from field data for repairable products with multiple modes of failure, and is an extension of Bai et al.(1995). The log linear function is considered as a model for describing the relation between failure time of a product and covariates. Using the nonhomogeneous poisson process, general methods for obtaining pseudo maximum likelihood estimators(PMLEs) for the parameters are outlined and specific formulas for Weibull distribution are obtained. Effects of follow-up percentage on the PMLEs are investigated. Extension to case-cohort design is also considered.

The shape of surface micro-crack is very irregular due to nonhomogeneous microstructure but is very important in respect to qualitative estimation of fatigue life. Fractal geomety can quantify the shape of surface mciro-crack. Fractal dimension is measured for surface micro-cracks with coast line and box counting method and estimates cycle ration in Al 2024-T3. The average fractal dimension $D_{favg}$ of surface micro-cracks has 3-parameter weibull distribution and location parameter is nearly constant but shape parameter decreases as cycle ration increases. The fractal dimension by coast line method is measured for individual surface micro-crack but the fractal dimension by box countin method is measured for all the surface micro-cracks under sampling area. Therefore, This paper shows fractal dimension $D_{fb}$ can predict cycle ratio $N/N_f$ more convenient than fractal dimension $D_{favg}$.
FANCJ is a DNA helicase which contributes genome stability by resolving G-quadruplex DNA from 5' to 3' direction. In addition to main ATPase helicase core, FANCJ has the protein binding region at its C-terminal part. BRCA1 and BLM are the binding partner of FANCJ and these protein-protein interactions contribute genomic stability and the proper response to replication stress. As the first attempt for studying FANCJ-BLM interaction, we prepared BLM binding region of FANCJ and characterized with CD and NMR spectroscopy. FANCJ (881-941) with N-ter 6xHis was purified as the oligomer. Secondary structure prediction based on CD data revealed that FANCJ (881-941) composed with ${\beta}$ sheet, turn and coils.$^1H-^{15}N$ HSQC spectra showed nonhomogeneous peak intensities with less number of peaks comparing than the number of amino acids in the construct. It indicated that optimization should be necessary for detailed further structural studies.
Radiative transfer by nongray gas mixtures with nonuniform concentration and temperature profiles is studied by using the statistical narrow-band model and the ray-tracing method with the sufficiently accurate T$\_$60/ quadrature set. Transmittances through the nonhomogeneous gas mixtures are calculated by using the Curtis-Godson approximation. Three different cases with different temperature and concentration profiles are considered profiles are considered to obtain benchmark solutions for the radiative transfer by nongray gas mixtures. The solutions obtained from this study are verified and found to be very well matched with the previous solutions for uniform gas mixtures. The results presented in this paper can be used as benchmark solutions in developing various solution methods for radiative transfer by nongray gas mixtures.
This paper proposes non-destructive ESPI technique to evaluate inside defects of semiconductor package quantitatively. Inspection system consists of ESPI system, thermal loading system and adiabatic chamber. The technique has high feasibility in non-destructive testing of semiconductor and gives solutions to the drawbacks in previous technique, time-consuming and the difficulty of quantitative evaluation. In result, most of defects are classified in delamination, from which it is inferred to the insufficiency of adhesive strength between layers and nonhomogeneous heat spread. The $90\%$ of tested samples have a delamination defect started at the around of the chip which may be related to heat spread design.
In many situations, the system failures depend on the operating environmental conditions that vary on time, usually with periodical manners. We use nonhomogeneous Poisson processes whose rate functions exhibit cyclic behavior as well as a long-term evolutionary trend to model the stochastic process of the failures when the rate of occurrence of the failures varies periodically, for example from day to day or between seasons. In this study, we compare optimal policies under the nonho-mogeneous process with/without a cyclic component in the failure rate function. The analytical re-sults for various situations are presented along with numerical examples using simulated data.
In this paper, a hybrid boundary element technique is implemented to analyze nonlinear transient pile soil interaction in Gibson type nonhomeogenous soil. Inelastic modeling of soil media is presented by introducing a rational approximation to the continuum with nonlinear interface springs along the piles. Modified $\ddot{O}$zdemir's nonlinear model is implemented and systems of equations are coupled at interfaces for piles and pile groups. Linear beam column finite elements are used to model the piles and the resulting governing equations are solved using an implicit integration scheme. By enforcing displacement equilibrium conditions at each time step, a system of equations is generated which yields the solution. A numerical example is performed to investigate the effects of nonlinearity on the pile soil interaction.
