MOF-based Sensing Materials for Non-enzymatic Glucose Sensors

  • Diabetes mellitus is one of the common chronic diseases, seriously threating to human health. The continuous monitoring of blood glucose concentration can effectively prevent diabetic diseases. The sensing performance of glucose non-enzymatic sensors is mainly determined by working electrode materials. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are recognized as promising candidate for glucose sensor application, due to its large surface areas, ordered porous structure and nearly infinite designability. In this review, the sensing performance, research progress and future challenge of non-enzymatic glucose sensors based on MOF-based materials in recent years are presented. We hope that this review would provide valuable technology guidance for high performance non-enzymatic glucose sensors based on MOFs.

Estimating the Economic Value of Function for Public Benefits on Practice of Organic Farming - Using Choice Experiments (유기농업의 공익기능에 대한 경제적 가치 평가 -실험선택법을 적용하여-)

  • The objective of this paper is to apply choice experiment methods to estimate non-market value of organic farming and its policy implication. A preliminary survey shows that the attributes of organic farming are reduce environmental pollution, bio-diversity improvements, cultural diversity improvements and maintain local community, reduce green-house gas emissions, energy saving, landscape improvements and tax for organic farming improvement policy. Questionnaire was eight different choice sets presented to each respondent. Implicit values of the attributive levels of organic farming have been calculated into tax money costs per house. This paper compared the six feasible scenarios in terms of willingness to pay per year. This study is expected to contribute to government's organic farming policies and quantitative information related to practice of organic farming.

Differences between Purchase Behavior and Perception of Organic Clothing Goods on University Students (대학생의 오가닉 의류제품에 대한 구매행동과 인지도의 차이)

  • This study aims to examine and analyze consumers' perception level and purchase behavior of organic clothing goods with. According to their purchase experience of organic clothing goods, it was found that organic textile products for women like sanitary pad were most and purchase frequency of organic clothing goods was mostly once. Among reasons to purchase organic clothing goods, 'for my health' was most. Non-purchase reason was mostly 'I don't know what organic goods are'. Therefore, there were significant awareness differences of organic clothing goods in "health efficiency" between the purchasing group and the non-purchasing group. In addition, there were significant awareness differences of demographic characteristics and organic clothing goods in sex, age, and "health efficiency" of related major items and in "high quality recognition" and "health efficiency" of residential areas.

Development of Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Insulating Materials with Semi-Non-Combustible Using by Recycling Gypsum (재활용 석고 부산물을 이용한 준불연 유무기 융합 단열재 개발 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an organic-inorganic hybrid insulation materials which has an economic feasibility of organic level and excellent adiabatic performance and fire stability by impregnating organic materials with inorganic binder solutions. The organic base was commercial polyurethane sponge, and the inorganic binder slurry was prepared by mixing water and additives into recycled gypsum byproducts. As a result of evaluation of the developed materials, it was confirmed that it not only has excellent insulation performance of a thermal conductivity of 0.051 W/mK or less but also it is a semi-non-combustible materials specified in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Notice No. 2015-744. The developed materials can also be controlled for thermal conductivity and flame retardance according to density control during manufacturing process, and thus it can be applied to various insulation materials.

Electrochemical Non-Enzymatic Glucose Sensor based on Hexagonal Boron Nitride with Metal-Organic Framework Composite

  • In this study, an amperometric non-enzymatic glucose sensor was developed on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode by simply drop-casting the synthesized homogeneous suspension of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanosheets with a copper metal-organic framework (Cu-MOF) composite. Comprehensive analytical methods, including field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and amperometry, were used to investigate the surface and electrochemical characteristics of the h-BN-Cu-MOF composite. The FE-SEM, FT-IR, and XRD results showed that the h-BN-Cu-MOF composite was formed successfully and exhibited a good porous structure. The electrochemical results showed a sensor sensitivity of $18.1{\mu}A{\mu}M^{-1}cm^{-2}$ with a dynamic linearity range of $10-900{\mu}M$ glucose and a detection limit of $5.5{\mu}M$ glucose with a rapid turnaround time (less than 2 min). Additionally, the developed sensor exhibited satisfactory anti-interference ability against dopamine, ascorbic acid, uric acid, urea, and nitrate, and thus, can be applied to the design and development of non-enzymatic glucose sensors.

Removal of Non-biodegradable Organic Contaminants in Wastewater from crude oil reserve base Using Pulse UV System (Pulse UV 장치를 이용한 원유비축시설 발생폐수의 난분해성 유기오염물질 제거)

  • Wastewater from crude oil reserve base usually contains large amount of non-biodegradable contaminants. The conventional wastewater treatment progress can hardly meet the regulation of wastewater effluent quality. This study investigated the removal of non-biodegradable organic contaminants in wastewater from crude oil reserve base using a pulse UV treatment. The modified process incorporating pulse UV process was set up to treat the wastewater from crude oil reserve base. The treatment process is composed with coagulation and flocculation, micro-bubble flotation, sand filter, pulse UV system, and GAC filter. The results show CODMn was effectively removed by the process with pulse UV system and it can meet the wastewater effluent regulation. The single effect of pulse UV process in CODMn removal was not significant(9~15% based on sand filtered effluent), however with the subsequent activated carbon filter the removal ratio CODMn was increased up to 28% compared to the process without pulse UV syetem.

Facile and Clean Synthetic Route to Non-Layered Two-Dimensional ZIF-67 Nanosheets

  • Two-dimensional (2D) metal organic framework (MOF) nanosheets (NSs) have recently gained considerable interest owing to their structural advantages, such as large surface area and exposed active sites. Two different types of 2D MOF NSs have been reported, including inherently layered MOFs and non-layered ones. Although several studies on inherently layered 2D MOFs have been reported, non-layered 2D MOFs have been rarely studied. This may be because the non-layered MOFs have a strong preference to form three-dimensionality intrinsically. Furthermore, the non-layered MOFs are typically synthesized in the presence of the surfactant or modulator, and thus developing facile and clean synthetic routes is highly pursued. In this study, a facile and clean synthetic methodology to grow non-layered 2D cobalt-based zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) NSs is suggested, without using any surfactant and modulator at room temperature. This is achieved by directly converting ultrathin α-Co(OH)2 layered hydroxide salt (LHS) NSs into non-layered 2D ZIF-67 NSs. The comprehensive characterizations were conducted to elucidate the conversion mechanism, structural information, thermal stability, and chemical composition of the non-layered 2D ZIF-67. This facile and clean approach could produce a variety of non-layered 2D MOF NS families to extend potential applications of MOF materials.

The Effects on Information Types of GMO for Consumers' Value Perception (GMO 정보 전달 방식이 소비자의 가치 인식에 미치는 영향)

  • GMO labeling system in South Korea stipulates three labeling methods: GMO labeling, no labeling and Non-GMO labeling. Products labeled as Non-GMO are not allowed for unintentional commingling of GMO without tolerance. However, consumers vary their acceptance of Non-GMO label on the unintentionally commingled products and willingness to pay according to the mixing rate, rather than devalue the whole products as useless. Additionally, consumers do not believe that the acceptable mixing rate should be discriminated between non-labeled products, which allow up to 3% of unintentional GMO contamination, and Non-GMO labeled products. Information on unintentional GMO mixing mainly refers to the mixing rate, but the Non-GMO content remaining even after commingling is also important information. The decline in value is alleviated when consumers are exposed to positive information, such as Non-GMO content, rather than when exposed to negative information, such as the mixing rate. Loss Aversion Coefficient is relative depending on whether the information representing the loss is positive or negative. Information that a Non-GMO labeled product contains X% GMO is more sensitive than information that (100-X)% Non-GMO remains.

  • Je-chun clay, Hwa-soon bentonite, and Hwa-soon montmorillonite were treated with treated with organic solvents, i.e., ethylene glycol, ethanol, n-hexane, dioxane, ethylene chlorohydrin and obtained X-ray diffractograms were compared with those of the original samples. Organic solvent was adsorbed on the basal plane surfaces of Je-chun clay, Hwa-soon bentonite, Hwa-soon montmorillonite and, as a result, the axis spacing ws increased, However, organic solvent did not affect the non-expanding lattice of Japanese acid clay and the basal plane remained unchanged.

Development of Fluorescent or Phosphorescent Materials for Non-Dopant Red Organic Light-Emitting Diodes

  • In this paper, a renovated approach in the fabrication of red organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) is described. The hard-to-control doping process required for dopant-based red OLEDs can be avoided due to the novel red fluorophores that are not concentration quenching in solid state. Doping is in general a must for phosphorescence OLEDs because of the triplet-triplet annihilation, a common problem for phosphorophore dopants. However, we have recently found that extraordinary red iridium complex showing relatively short emission lifetime render the non-doped phosphorescence red OLED possible.
