  • Low pressure casting process for unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced aluminum (UD-CF/Al) composites which is an infiltration route of molten Al into porous UD-CF preform has been a cost-effective way to obtain metal matrix composites (MMCs) but, easy to cause non-uniform fiber distribution as CF clustering. Such clustered CFs have been a problem to decrease the density and thermal conductivity (TC) of composites, due to the existence of pores in the clustered area. To obtain high thermal performance composites for heat-sink application, the relationship between fiber distribution and porosity has to be clearly investigated. In this study, the CF distribution was evaluated with quantification approach by using two-dimensional spatial distribution method as local number 2-dimension (LN2D) analysis. Note that the CFs distribution in composites sensitively changed by sizes of Cu bridging particles between the CFs added in the UD-CF preform fabrication stage, and influenced on only $LN2D_{var}$ values.

  • In contrast to the high demand for MEMS devices, microflow analysis is not feasible even for single-phase flow with conventional Navier-Stokes equation because of non-continuum effect when characteristic dimension is comparable with local mean free path. DSMC is one of particle based DNS(Direct Numerical Simulation) methods that uses no continuum assumption. In this paper, gas flow in microchannel is studied using DSMC. Interfacial shear and flow characteristics are observed and compared with the results of gas flow that is in contact with liquid case and solid wall case. The simulation is limited to the case of equilibrium steady state and evaporation/condensation coefficient is assumed to be the same and unity. System temperature remains constant and the interfacial shear appears to be small compared to the result with solid wall. This is because particles evaporated and reflected from the liquid surface form high density layer near the interface with liquid flow.

  • EEG is the electrical signal, which is occurred during information processing in the brain. These EEG signal are measured by non-invasive method. EEG has many useful information for brain activity, but artifacts which are included in EEG prevents EEG analysis, so many efforts are devoted to remove these artifacts in EEG. However, this study is going to analysis the feature of the EEG mixed with artifacts in forward-looking way, by using this way, we have found the possibility that is actually applicable to system such as control system. We have made feature difference after the linear as well as nonlinear analysis regarding EEG including typical artifacts, eye-blinking, eye rolling, muscle, and so forth.

  • A diagnosis system that provides early warnings regarding machine malfunction is very important for rolling mill so as to avoid great losses resulting from unexpected shutdown of the production line. But it is very difficult to provide e8rly w, ul1ings in rolling mill. Because dynamics of rolling mill is non-linear. This paper shows a chaotic behaviour of vibration signal in rolling mill using embedding method. Phase plane and Poincare map, FFT and histogram of vibration signal in rolling mill are implemented by qualitative analysis and Fractal dimension, Lyapunov exponent are presented by quantitative analysis.

  • The relationship between the morphology of nanostructured TiO$_2$ films and the photo-injected electron transport has been investigated using intensity-modulated photocurrent spectroscopy (IMPS). For this purpose, three different TiO$_2$ films with 5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness are prepared: The rutile TiO$_2$ film with 500 nm-sized cluster-like spherical bundles composed of the individual needles (Tl), the rutile TiO$_2$ film made up of non-oriented, homogeneously distributed rod-shaped particles having a dimension of approximately 20${\times}$80 nm (T2), and the anatase TiO$_2$ film with 20 nm-sized spherically shaped particles (T3). Cross sectional scanning electron micrographs show that all of the TiO$_2$films have a quite different particle packing density: poorly packed Tl film, loosely packed T2 film and densely packed T3 film. The electron transport is found to be significantly influenced by film morphology. The effective electron diffusion coefficient D$_{eff}$ derived from the IMPS time constant is an order of magnitude lower for T2 than for T3, but the D$_{eff}$ for the Tl sample is much lower than T2. These differences in the rate of electron transport are ascribed to differences in the extent of interparticle connectivity associated with the particle packing density.ity.

  • The incidence of pulmonary leiomyosarcoma is very rare as a primary lung tumor. Usually, pulmonary leiomyosarcoma arise from the smooth muscle present in the bronchi or blood vessles. We had experienced two cases of primary pulmonary leiomyosarcoma. The first case was 28-year old male patient who had been in good health until admission, when he experienced an episode of dyspnea and sudden hemoptysis. The chest X-ray film revealed a large round tumor mass in left lower lobe measuring 6.5x9.5x5.3cm in dimension. On physical examination, the patient was friction rub and rales on the left lower chest and postoperative course was smooth and non-eventful. Emergency left lower lobectomy was performed due to repeated hemoptysis. Chemotheraphy was done postoperatively as an adjuvant therapy. The second case was 52-year-old man who had been well prior to admission, when recently he noticed a abrupt growing tendency of old pulmonary coin lesion in right lower lobe on routine physical examination. Since 1968, small round mass was gradually enlarged very slowly, during recent one year interval, the tumor mass was enlarged abruptly as twice in size on chest X-ray. Bronchoscopic examination revealed no specipic findings. Right lower lobectomy was performed and pathologic examination was answered as primary leiomyosarcoma without lymph node metastasis. Postoperative course was smooth, except local wound infection.

  • The dimension measurement problem of products has been a major concern in the quality control in the industrial fields. A non-contacting measurement system using the vision sensor is proposed in this paper. The system consists of a CCD camera for the image capture, a frame grabber for the acquired image processing, a laser unit for the illumination, scanning unit for the measurement, and a personal computer for the geometry computation. The slit beam which is generated by passing the laser beam through a cylin- drical lens is fired to the axial-symmetric object on the rotating plate. The image of objects reflected by the laser slit beam, acquired by the CCD camera, becomes much brighter than the other parts of objects. After the histogram of brightness for the captured image is calculated, low intensity pixels are filtered out by threshold method. The performance of proposed measurement system is obtained for several different axial symmetric objects. The proposed system is verified as a good tool for measuring axial-symmetric parts in a limited condition with a minor investment cost.

  • This study analyze the architectural space in the aspect of the 'Raumplan' and 'Plan Libre'. These concepts based on the 'Raumplan versus Plan Libre' exhibition in Delft University, Netherlands. It is generally agreed that the concept of 'Plan Libre' in connection with Le Corbusie architecture and 'Raumplan' related to Adolf Loos's works. that exhibition contents was focused an extent of modem architecture. But, These concepts continually influence contemporary architecture and offer diverse vision in architecture. Therefore, this study focused on the analysis that look for common element in the space through the case study and space element connection in change of the values, technical growth. This Paper reveals that Adolf Loos's Raumplan is similar to Louis I. Kahn's 'Room' concept and Ando Tadao's centrifugal space composition method In the dwelling architecture. And the concept 'Plan Libre': non-definitive formal system and the elements : column, free form screening wall is revived as formal application of 3 dimension composition in architecture. and transfer lots, void, and linear space in Rem Koolhaas's urban design projects. These aspects is so called topology. This topological concept is an attempt in view of the space connection state rather than formative viewpoint.

  • Generally the neural network and the fuzzy compensative algorithm are applied to forecast the time series for power demand with a characteristic of non-linear dynamic system, but it has a few prediction errors relatively. It also makes long term forecast difficult for sensitivity on the initial condition. On this paper, we evaluate the chaotic characteristic of electrical power demand with analysis methods of qualitative and quantitative and perform a forecast simulation of electrical power demand in regular sequence, attractor reconstruction, time series forecast for multi dimension using Lyapunov exponent quantitatively. We compare simulated results with the previous method and verify that the purpose one being more practice and effective than it.

  • Spatial objects in the space II odd hale been changed bl eitber non-spiltial operations or spatial operations. For example, their states arc changed by the following operation: changing their owners, changing their owner's address, installing new constructions, changing precincts, splitting, and merging, The conventional geographic information system(GIS), however, did not also manage their histoncal information cecause it handles the snapshot image of spatial ohjects in the world. In this paper we therelore propose a spatiotemporal data model which is ahle to not un]y manage the historical information of spatial objects but also, support their historical intemlgation by extending a time dimension and a historical pointer for SDE(Spatial Database Engine) spatial data model. Finally, the proposed spatiotemporal data model using a layered time extension are going to contribute to manage the history of spatial objects in the world and retrieve them.
