We perform disk-halo decomposition of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) using a novel HI velocity field extraction method, aimed at better deriving its HI kinematics and thus mass distribution in the galaxy including both baryons and dark matter. We decompose all the line-of-sight velocity profiles of the combined HI data cube of the LMC, taken from the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) and Parkes radio telescopes with an optimal number of Gaussian components. For this, we use a novel tool, the so-called BAYGAUD which performs profile decomposition based on Bayesian MCMC techniques. From this, we disentangle turbulent non-ordered HI gas motions from the decomposed gas components, and produce an HI bulk velocity field which better follows the global circular rotation of the galaxy. From a 2D tilted-ring analysis of the HI bulk velocity field, we derive the rotation curve of the LMC after correcting for its transverse, nutation and precession motions. The dynamical contributions of baryons like stars and gaseous components which are derived using the Spitzer 3.6 micron image and the HI data are then subtracted from the total kinematics of the LMC. Here, we present the bulk HI rotation curve, the mass models of stars and gaseous components, and the resulting dark matter density profile of the LMC.

TOA(time-of-arrival) and TDOA(time-difference-of-arrival) positioning techniques are commonly used in many radio-navigation systems. From the literature, it is known that the position estimate and error covariance matrix of TDOA obtained by GN(Gauss-Newton) method is exactly the same as that of TOA when the error source of the range measurement is only an IID white Gaussian noise. In case of geo-location and indoor positioning, however, multi-path or NLOS(non-line-of-sight) error is frequently appeared in range measurements. Though its occurrence is random, the multipath acts like a bias for a stationary user if it occurs. This paper presents the comparisons of error characteristics between TOA and TDOA positioning in presence of multi-path or NLOS error. It is analytically shown that the position estimate of TDOA is exactly the same as that of TOA even when bias errors are included in range measurements with different magnitudes. By computer simulation, position estimation error and error distribution are analyzed in presence of range bias errors.

We perform disk-halo decomposition of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) using a novel HI velocity field extraction method, aimed at better deriving its HI kinematics and thus the dark matter density profile. For this, we use two newly developed galaxy kinematic analysis tools, BAYGAUD and 2DBAT which have been used for the kinematic analysis of resolved galaxies from Australian Square Kilometre Array (ASKAP) observations like WALLABY which is an all-sky HI galaxy survey in southern sky. By applying BAYGAUD to the combined HI data cube of the LMC taken with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) and Parkes radio telescopes, we decompose all the line-of-sight velocity profiles into an optimal number of Gaussian components based on Bayesian MCMC techniques. From this, we disentangle turbulent non-circular gas motions from the overall rotation of the galaxy. We then derive the rotation curve of the LMC by applying 2DBAT to the separated circular motions. The rotation curve reflecting the total kinematics of the LMC, dark and baryonic matters is then be combined with the mass models of baryons, mainly stellar and gaseous components in order to examine the dark matter distribution. Here, we present the analysis of the extracted HI gas maps, rotation curve, and J, H and K-band surface photometry of the LMC.
Flame propagation in a four-valve spark-ignition optical engine was visualized under lean-bum conditions with A/F=18 at 2000rpm. The early flame development in a four-valve pentroof-chamber single-cylinder engine was examined with imaging of the laser-induced Mie scattered light using an image-intensified CCD camera. Flame profiles along the line-of-sight were also visualized through a quartz piston window. Two-dimensional flame structures were visualized with a Proxitronic HF-1 fast motion camera system by Mie scattering from titanium dioxide particles along a planar laser sheet generated by a copper vapor laser. The flame propagation images were subsequently analysed with an image processing programme to obtain information about the flame structure under different tumble flow conditions generated by sleeved and non-sleeved intake ports. This allowed enhancement of the flame images and calculation of the enflamed area, and the displacement of its center, as a function of the tumble flow induced by the pentroof-chamber in the vicinity of spark plug. Image processing of the early flame development quantified the correlation between flame and flow characteristics near the spark plug at the time of ignition which has been known to be one of the most important factors in cyclic combustion variations in lean-burn engines. The results were also compared with direct flame images obtained from the natural flame luminosity of the lean mixture.

This study develops an automatic berthing control algorithm for ships with a bow thruster and a stern thruster as well as a rudder. A nonlinear mathematical model for low speed maneuvering of ships is used to develop a MIMO(multi-input multi-output) nonlinear control algorithm. The algorithm consists of two parts, which are forward velocity control and heading angle control. The control algorithm is designed based on the longitudinal and yaw dynamic models of ships. The desired heading angle is obtained by the so called "Line of Sight" method. An optimal control force allocation method of the rudder and the thrusters is suggested. The nonlinear control algorithms are tested by numerical simulations using MATLAB, and shows good tracking performances.

In this paper,. with the aim of achieving the expected performance improvement for a polarization diversity system, we analyzed two-branch polarization diversity at the receiving end of a mobile link which a transmitter emits circularly polarized wave. In this analysis, to calculate the correlation coefficient considered by XPD(cross polarization discrimination) between the two received signals, a simple theoretical model of circular polarization diversity is adopted. From the analysis results, it is clearly seen that the correlation coefficient of circular polarization diversity evaluated by the XPD is less than that of conventional linear polarization diversity. And also, we designed and implemented a circular polarization diversity system with micro-strip antenna. By using the circular polarization diversity system, we analyzed the measured data in indoor NLOS(Non-Line-Of-Sight) environments. From this analysis results, it is also clearly seen that the diversity effect of circular polarization diversity system shows better performance compared to the conventional linear diversity system by about 3 dB high.

The significant additional path loss is caused by scattering, diffraction, and attenuation of propagation. Most of the wave propagation models for rural areas mainly have considered the influence of topography but ignored the effects due to land usage. The goal of this paper is development of the field strength prediction program for Cheju which is used the contour map and the effects due to land usage. In oder to classify the propagation path and divide the environment of land, data of the terrain and the land-cover are formed into a pixel. Two-ray model is transformed into equivalent model by the predicted reflection coefficient and the slope of terrain. For non line of sight, the additional loss is determined by quantitative analysis. The result show good accord and the wave propagation model program can be applied to predicted the service region in rural area of Cheju.

Satellite DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) uses the Cap Filler(GF) that provides a service to the wave shade area of the satellite signal that is a non-line of sight area. The GF is the repeater and the Satellite DMB Systems certainly must construct the GF Network toguarantee the movement reception of the terminal. As the coverage of the GF is formed the Cell or Sector, when the multiple GF is established to be contiguous, the problem of the interference will be able to occur. This paper describes the Satellite DMB system and the GF, and it investigate the design fundamentals plan of the GF Network that it will be able to reduce this problem. As a result, in case of the distance that GF and terminal unit is above 4.6Km, service is not provided because of quality degradation according to mutual interference.
Most of ubiquitous computing devices such as stereo camera, ultrasonic sensor based MIT cricket system and other wireless sensor network devices are widely applied to the 2 Dimensional(2D) localization system in today. Because stereo camera cannot estimate the optimal location between moving node and beacon node in Wireless Personal Area Network(WPAN) under Non Line Of Sight(NLOS) environment, it is a great weakness point to the design of the 2D localization system in indoor environment. But the conventional 2D triangulation scheme that is adapted to the MIT cricket system cannot estimate the 3 Dimensional(3D) coordinate values for estimation of the optimal location of the moving node generally. Therefore, the 3D triangulation scheme based on the space segmentation in WPAN is suggested in this paper. The measuring data in the suggested scheme by computer simulation is compared with that of the geographic measuring data in the AutoCAD software system. The average error of coordinates values(x,y,z) of the moving node is calculated to 0.008m by the suggested scheme. From the results, it can be seen that the location correctness of the suggested scheme is very excellent for using the localization system in WPAN.

This paper presents a recognition performance of VOR (Vestibular-Ocular Reflex) based vision tracking system for mobile robot. The VOR is a reflex eye movement which, during head movements, produces an eye movement in the direction opposite to the head movement, thus maintaining the image of interested objects placed on the center of retina. We applied this physiological concept to the vision tracking system for high recognition performance in mobile environments. The proposed method was implemented in a vision tracking system consisting of a motion sensor module and an actuation module with vision sensor. We tested the developed system on an x/y stage and a rate table for linear motion and angular motion, respectively. The experimental results show that the recognition rates of the VOR-based method are three times more than non-VOR conventional vision system, which is mainly due to the fact that VOR-based vision tracking system has the line of sight of vision system to be fixed to the object, eventually reducing the blurring effect of images under the dynamic environment. It suggests that the VOR concept proposed in this paper can be applied efficiently to the vision tracking system for mobile robot.
