  • The microstructures and time-relationship between deformation and growth of metamorphic minerals(metamorphism) of the Paleozoic metasedimentary rocks(Joseon Supergroup and Pyeongan Group) in the Janggunbong area at the central-south part in the North Sobaegsan Massif, Korea, have been analyzed in this paper. The first phase metamorphism (low-pressure type metamorphism), recognized as the crystallization of stack-type chloritoid and biotite and augen-type old andalusite, occurred under non-deformational condition before D1 deformation related to the formation of an E-W trending isocline-synclinal fold(Janggunbong fold) and associated its axial plane S1 foliation, and produced regional mineralogical zoning of E-W trend in the Paleozoic rocks. The second phase metamorphism(medium-pressure type metamorphism), related to the growth of staurolite and garnet porphyroblasts with straight or curved internal foliations(Si), occurred under non-deformational condition after D1 deformation related to the formation of E-W trending thrusts modifying the Janggunbong fold and during D2 deformation related to the formation of E-W trending Yecheon shear zone. This metamorphism also produced regional mineralogical zoning of E-W trend. After D2 deformation occurred the intrusion of Jurassic Chunyang granite and associated its contact metamorphism which crystallized patchy-type young andalusite and prismatic- or fibrous-type sillimanite and coarse-grained garnet. This metamorphism occurred under non-deformational condition before D3 deformation related to the formation of S3 crenulation cleavage and during early phase of D3 deformation, and formed narrow mineralogical zoning of N-S trend near Chunyang granite.

  • Low level laser therapy has various therapy effects. This paper performed the basic study for developing the Low Level Laser Therapy Equipment for medical treatment. The apparatus has been fabricated using the laser diode and microprocessor unit. This equipment was fabricated using a micro-controller and a laser diode, and designed to enable us to control light irradiation time, frequency and so on. In this study, the designed device was used to find out how infrared laser diode affected the collagen formation. For in-vivo test, a round wound 1cm in diameter was cut from the test animal whose epidermal and dermal layers were removed. Test animals were relieved for 24 hours after wounds had been excised and then the infrared laser irradiation group was given irradiation therapy over 9 days one 20 min per day. As a result, More collagenosis occurred in the order of infrared laser irradiation and non-irradiation group. Collagenosis is closely related to wound repair and it was found that infrared laser irradiation groups had more collagenosis and was quicker to recover from wound than non-irradiation group.

  • This study is to investigate the dispersion characteristics of diesel fuel spray in the initial stage of the beginning of the injection under the condition of room temperature and atmospheric pressure. It is difficult to analyse that the diesel fuel spray in diesel engine has unsteady intermittent spray. So author installed a fuel accumulator and an electromagnetic controller in order to keep the constant fuel injection rate with the time variation. With this modified fuel injection system, spray tip penetration, spray angle and initial spray development process are investigated by instantaneous photographic method. The results obtained in this study are as follows : 1) The initial shape of injection of diesel fuel spray shows the form of non-disintegrated intact core, but the formation of ligaments increasingly grows as the time increases. It can also be shown that fine droplets become disintegrated out from the ligaments. 2) The slope of spray tip penetration was changed to two different tendencies with time. The transition point of the slope is shown at the time of around between 0.09 msec and 0.4 msec from the beginning of injection. This is transition time from non-disintegrated intact core to formation of ligaments.

  • Chalcogenide glasses with compositions of Ge10Se90-xTex(X=0~50 at.%) were prepared in order to investigate the effects of Te substitution on the transmission characteristics of Ge-Se glasses in the 8~12 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ wavelength region. Absorption coefficients were observed to decrease with Te addition, indicating the improved transmission capabilities of Ge-Se-Te glasses as compared to binary Ge-Se glasses. XRD analysis of crystallized glasses suggested the formation of weaker Se-Te and/or Te-Te bonds with addition of Te substituting for Se in stronger Se-Se bonds. Incorporation of Te in excess of 20at% resulted in the formation of hexagonal Te phases when crystallized. It is speculated that the presence of Te-Te bonds with highly metallic bond character resulted in the enhanced crystallization tendencies of glasses. Fromation of Te-rich chains through gradual replacement of Se-Se with Se-Te and/or Te-Te bonds was further supported by decreases in glass transition and crystallization temperatures.

  • We present physical properties of $24{\mu}m$ galaxies detected by AKARI and Spitzer and their evolution between redshifts 0.4 < z < 2. Using multi-wavelength data from X-ray to radio observations in NEP Deep Field (for AKARI) and Subaru/XMM-Newton Deep Field (for Spitzer), we derive photometric redshift, stellar mass, star-formation rate (SFR), dust extinction magnitude and rest-frame luminosities/colors of the $24{\mu}m$ galaxies from photometric SED fitting. We infer the SFRs from rest-frame ultraviolet luminosity and total infrared luminosity calibrated against Herschel photometric data. For both survey fields, we obtain complete samples with stellar mass of > $10^{10}M_{\odot}$ and SFR of > $30M_{\odot}/yr$ up to z = 2. We find that specific SFRs evolves with redshift at all stellar masses in NON-power-law galaxies (non-PLGs) as star-formation dominant luminous infrared galaxies (LIRGs). The correlations between specific SFR and stellar mass in the Spitzer and AKARI galaxy samples are well consistent with trends of the main sequence galaxies. We also discuss nature of PLGs and their evolution.

  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy, though an uncommon surgical procedure in paediatric age group is still associated with a higher risk of post-operative bile duct injuries when compared with the open procedure. Small leaks from extra hepatic biliary apparatus usually lead to the formation of a localized sub-hepatic bile collection, also known as biloma. Such leaks are rare complication after laparoscopic cholecystectomy, especially in paediatric age group. Minor bile leaks can usually be managed non-surgically by percutaneous drainage combined with endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP). However, surgical exploration is required in cases not responding to non-operative management. If not managed on time, such injuries can lead to severe hepatic damage. We describe a case of an eight-year-old girl who presented with biloma formation after laparoscopic cholecystectomy who was managed by ERCP.

  • The interactions of ${\alpha}-cyclodextrin({\alpha}-CyD)$ and ${\beta}-cyclodextrin({\beta}-CyD)$ with several non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs were studied on the effects of ${\alpha}-$ and ${\beta}-CyD$ on the solubility of the drugs in aqueous medium. Indoprofen, niflumic acid, alclofenac, and naproxen were chosen as representatives of antiinflammatory drugs. The solubility of all drugs studied increased with the addition of ${\beta}-CyD$, while not with glucose or ${\alpha}-CyD$. The increase of the solubility with ${\beta}-CyD$ was considered due mainly to the formation of inclusion complexes between ${\beta}-CyD$ and drugs. From the solubility data, the apparent stability constants K of the complex could be calculated. Ultraviolet absorption and circular dichroism confirmed the inclusion of indoprofen, niflumic acid and naproxen with ${\beta}-CyD$ in the molar ratio of 1 : 1. Inclusion complexes in solid powder form were obtained by the freeze-drying method and the inclusion formation was confirmed again by infrared, diffential thermal analysis, and X-ray diffraction measurements.

  • Various maxillary sinus floor augmentation techniques were common performed and in the most cases, many kinds of bone graft materials were used. The graft materials are autogenous bone or other biomaterials of human, animal or synthetic origin. But these cases report describes a new surgical technique by which dental implants are inserted in a void space created by elevating the sinus membrane without additional graft material in atrophic posterior maxilla. We created lateral bony window using piezoelectric device and elevated the schneiderian membrane in five patients and was repositioned with bony window in five patients, without any bone graft. From the clinical and histological results, it is found there is potential capacity for bone formation and placement of implants in the maxillary sinus without the use of bone grafts or bone substitutes.

  • Rusty root of ginseng has been known as one of the limiting factors in ginseng production in Korea. An attempt was, therefore, made to elucidate biological and chemical natures of the rusty root, and the redox Potential of the ginseng cultivated soils were measured and compared with diseased and non-diseased soils. Reddish discoloration was most frequently observed on the epidermis of ginseng root and the pigments were accumulated in all epidermal cells of the diseased lesions. The lower the redox potential of the ginseng cultivated soil was, the more severe the rusty root was observed. Fe content in the diseased epidermis was 3 times higher than that of healthy one. Organic acids such as oxalic, malonic, succinic, and citric acids were also higher in the mss root than in the healthy one. Thin layer chromatogram of phenolic acid fractions obtained from the epidermal cells of the rusty root of ginseng exhibited 3 to 4 unidentified substances not found in the healthy root. Also lignification of the epidermal cells and the activity of phenylalanine ammonia lyase were greater in the rusty root than the healthy root. Colony formation and conidia production of F. solani, And mycelial growth and sclerotium formation of Sclerotinia sp. isolated from ginseng root were suppressed in a nutritionally minimal medium supplemented with water extract of rusty ginseng root epidermis. It is, therefore, suggested that rusty root of ginseng is caused by unfavorable rhizosphere environmental stress or stresses resulting abnormal metabolism in the root as a selfdefence mechanism of non-specific resistance responses.
