Improvement of Interior Booming Noise in the Vehicle Using the Structural Dynamic Modification (구조물 동특성 변경을 이용한 실내 부밍 소음 개선)

  • Improvement of structure-borne noises in the vehicle compartments has been one of the primary concerns in the development of vehicles. The booming is an annoying low frequency interior noise and vibration in vehicle. But it is difficult to reduce the structure-born booming noise in traditional method - trial and error within the shorten development schedule. So in present, the structure dynamic modification (SDM) method helpful to predict the effect of the local mass, stiffness, and damping is introduced. So in order to reduce the interior booming noise, the SDM was performed, and verified with modal test result. It was shown that the interior booming noise was reduced as predicted.

Influence of Exposed Aggregate Texturing on the Reducing Traffic Noise Emission

  • The effects of traffic noise are a serious concern in many urban communities throughout the world. Environmental noise at high intensities directly affects human health by causing hearing loss and indirectly affects human welfare by interfering with sleep, thought, and conversation. In general, portland cement concrete(PCC) pavement is known to create more noise than asphaltic surfaces though it has the advantage of durability and superior surface. However, the results of preliminary laboratory test showed exposed aggregate concrete(EAC) have an effect on reducing traffic noise. Based on the laboratory test, pilot construction of exposed aggregate concrete was performed and series of in-situ measurements were conducted for noise analysis which included the pass-by noise measurement and the close-proximity method. Conclusively, It is expected that tire/pavement noise which is represented much noise levels at higher frequencies would be significantly reduced on special textures of pavement as like exposed aggregate concrete.

  • This paper deals with noise reduction on a light source driving board in a projector. We analyze causes of noise/vibration in the circuit with the present increasing use of LD and LED driving boards. The main source of noise is the MLCC in the driving board. Our aim is to investigate how the mechanical arrangement of the circuit elements affects noise reduction. The result of our experiment shows that noise can be reduced by symmetrical arrangement and slots in PCB. This result is expected to facilitate a variety of applications for manufactures without a need to change circuit elements.

  • In the first part of this paper, an analysis of the cab noise of a selected agricultural tractor was presented. In this study, using the results of the previous analysis, two passive noise control measures of the sound insulation and absorption were conducted to reduce the noise level inside the cab. These measures of noise control reduced the total noise level by 6.2㏈(A) at the operator position inside the cab. In order to further reduce the cab noise, particularly, of lower frequencies than 630Hz, stiffness and damping of the floor panel should be enforced. It was also suggested that a proper suspension for the cab mounting is necessary to reduce the level of structure-born noises.

  • In these days, gear whine noise of the axle and transmission is getting more important for reduction of vehicle noise, because major noise of vehicle was reduced. Therefore, in this paper, axle noise and vibration is measured, and then the modal analysis and running modal analysis is applied for reduction of axle gear whine noise.

  • Aircraft noise is a serious problem to inhabitants near airports. INM is one of programs for determining the predicted noise impact in the vicinity of airports. It has been widely used for engineers to evaluate aircraft noise. However it is difficult to predict aircraft noise in case of lack of exact INM input data. The exact informations about a fighter plane are not known well for a security problem. This study presents methods of reducing errors between measurement and simulation when the exact INM input data is not known. Especially we adjusted the thrust force of aircraft engine and reduced the error.

  • As interest in eco-friendly and fuel-efficient electric vehicles has increased globally, there has also been a growing interest in the efficiency, vibration, and noise of motors for electric vehicles Electric vehicles generally have significantly lower driving ranges per charge compared to the maximum driving range per fueling of internal combustion engine vehicles. Additionally, there are issues with various vibrations and noise generated by the motor that can cause discomfort for passengers. Therefore, research is necessary to reduce losses, vibration, and noise of the motor to improve the driving range of electric vehicles. IPMSM with a purchased design can obtain additional reluctance torque by utilizing the difference in inductance between the d and q axes. However, due to this reluctance torque, torque ripple occurs larger than other motors. The increase in torque ripple also increases noise and vibration. Since the reluctance torque, which is the main cause of torque ripple, is determined by the shape of the motor components, torque ripple can be reduced through shape optimization. In this paper, a rotor shape for reducing torque ripple and core loss that causes vibration, noise, and efficiency to decrease of IPMSM for electric vehicles was proposed. Optimization design was carried out by changing the shape of the q-axis path of the rotor to reduce the difference in inductance of the d and q-axis of the rotor. Finally, in order to verify the validity of the design variables derived through the optimal design, the original model and the improved model were compared through the FEM. Compared to the original model, the improved model's torque verifying ripple was reduced by about 62% and core loss was reduced by about 29%, the superiority of the improved model.

Although scientific evidence currently is not conclusive, noise is suspected of causing or aggravating other diseases. Environmental noise indirectly affects human welfare by interfering with sleep, thought, and conversation. Noise emission from motorized vehicle includes power unit noise, tire/pavement noise and aerodynamic noise. Among them, tire/pavement noise is noise emission from interaction of the tire and road surface when the vehicle cruises over the surface of pavement. In general, portland cement concrete(PCC) pavement is known to create more noise than asphaltic surfaces though it has the advantage of durability and superior surface friction. However, the results of preliminary laboratory test showed exposed aggregate concrete(EAC) has and effect on reducing tire/pavement noise. Based on the laboratory test. pilot construction of exposed aggregate concrete pavement was completed and series of in-situ measurements were conducted for noise analysis including the pass-by noise measurement and the close-proximity method. Conclusively, it is expected that tire/pavement noise represent significant portion of noise levels at higher frequencies and it would be reduced on special textures of pavement such as exposed aggregate concrete.

Noise Source Identification of the Design Elements of the Driving Gear for the Urban Railway (도시철도용 구동기어의 설계 요소에 대한 소음 기여도 분석)

  • As the railway noise guideline of the Ministry of Environment after 2017 is strictly enforced, the noise level at stationary condition of urban railway is demanding the reduction about 2 dB(A). And the noise level at running condition is reduced by 6 dB(A) at 80 km/h. Therefore, the devices that causes noise shall arrange for the improvement plan of noise reduction for each device. In this paper, we carried out a technical review of the driving gear used to drive the vehicle from a variety of noise-induced equipment of a urban railway. Analyze the causes of the current noise levels and noise cause about the driving gear used in current urban railway and this study analyzes the noise level and noise cause the drive gear being used in the current urban railway. Finally, in this paper proposes a scheme for reducing the noise that can be designed to reduce the noise with considering the noise cause analysis.

Development of a Noise Map in Neighboring Areas Around Korean Train Express Line and Analysis of the Related High Speed Railway Noise Influence (한국형 고속철도 노선 주변 지역의 소음 지도 작성과 소음 영향 분석)

  • The purpose of present study is to develop a noise map around Korean Train Express (KTX) line. It is also to evaluate the high speed railway noise influence in neighboring areas around KTX. In order to develop the noise map, noise source modeling and 3-D noise radiation simulation have been performed by means of SoundPLAN program. The result of the noise map has been verified in comparison with the measured noise level. Noise measurements have been performed at 15 locations around KTX line. At each locations, 6 microphones were located 1.5m and 3m above the ground at each of 25m, 50m and 75 m distances from a center of the KTX track. The noise map showed clearly the high speed railway noise influence in neighboring areas around KTX line. The present study has also showed the noise could be reduced by using noise barriers constructed at severely noise-exposed locations.
