  • Obtained disparity map from the stereo camera by using the several stereo matching algorithms carries lots of noise because of various causes. In our approach, mode filtering and noise elimination technique using the histogram and projection-based region merging methods are adopted for improving the quality of disparity map and image segmentation. The proposed algorithms are implemented in VHDL and the real-time experimentation shows the accurately divided objects.

  • This paper deals with the design rule and performance results of the transient voltage blocking devices (TBD) for low-voltage mains on shipboard. The proposed TBD consists of metal oxide varistors (MOV) and L-C filter to improve noise-elimination performance. Three kinds of TBDs are fabricated and tested by using a combination surge generator which can produce the standard impulse current of 8/20${\mu}$s 2.1kA. As a reults, the proposed TBD with series L-C filter has more excellent transient blocking and noise reduction performance than the conventional TBDs.

  • Recently, measuring instruments for SHM of structures has been developed. In general, the wireless transmission of sensor signals, compared to its wired counterpart, is preferable due to the absence of triboelectric noise and elimination of the requirement of a cumbersome cable. However, the low-cost wireless MEMS sensor has high noise density and transmits the signal wirelessly, so data transmission delay occurs during measurement. Therefore, the footbridges that was previously measured by a mobile phone in 2014 was remeasured using G-Link-200, iPad and iPhone to compare their performance.

  • An envelope elimination and restoration transmitter that uses a tri-level envelope encoding scheme is presented for improving the efficiency and linearity of the system. The proposed structure amplifies the same magnitude signal regardless of the input peak-to-average power ratio and reduces the quantization noise by spreading out the noise to the out-of-band frequency, resulting in the enhancement of power efficiency. An improved linearity is also obtained by providing a new timing mismatch calibration technique between the envelope and phase signal. Implementation in a 130 nm CMOS process, transmitter measurements on a 20-MHz long-term evolution input signal show an error vector magnitude of 3.7 % and an adjacent channel leakage ratio of 37.5 dBc at 2.13 GHz carrier frequency.

  • Ship object detection is a technique to detect the existence and the location of ship when ship objects are shown on input image sequence, and there are wide variations in accuracy due to environmental changes and noise of input image. In order to solve this problem, in this paper, we propose multiple ship object detection based on background registration technique and morphology operation. The proposed method consists of the following five steps: background elimination step, noise elimination step, object standard position setting step, object restructure step, and multiple object detection steps. The experimental results show accurate and real-time ship detection for 15 different test sequences with a detection rate of 98.7%, and robustness against variable environment. The proposed method may be helpful as the base technique of sea surface monitoring or automatic ship sailing.

  • When measuring the radiated noise of an underwater vehicle, the range information between the vehicle and the receiver is an important factor, but since Global Positioning System (GPS) is not available in underwater, an alternative method is needed. As an alternative, the range is measured by estimating the arrival time, arrival time difference, and arrival frequency difference using a separate acoustic signal. However, errors occur due to the channel environment, and these outliers become obstacles in continuously measuring range. In this paper, we propose a method to reduce errors by curve fitting with a function in the form of a V-curve as a post-processing to remove outliers that occurred in the process of measuring range information. Simulation, lake and sea trials were conducted to verify the performance of the proposed method. In the results of the lake trial, the range estimation error was reduced by about 85 % from the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) point of view.

  • Hyperspectral imaging obtains information with a wider wavelength range a large number of bands. However, a high correlation between each band, computation cost, and noise causes inaccurate results in cases of no pre-processing. The noises of band extraction and elimination positively necessary in hyperspectral imaging. Since the previous studies have used a characteristic the whole image, a local characteristic of the image is considered for the noise band extraction. In this study, the Quadtree, which is a data structure algorithm. and the fractal dimension are adopted for noise band extraction in Hyperion images. The fractal dimensions of the segments divided by the Quadtree structure are calculated, and variation is used. We focused on the extraction of random noise bands in Hyperion images and compared them with the reference data made by visual decisions. The proposed algorithm extracts the most bands, including random noises. It is possible to eliminate more than 30 noise bands, regardless of images.

  • Ultra-high-speed images that accurately depict the minute movements of objects have become common as low-cost and high-performance cameras that can film at high speeds have emerged. In this paper, the proposed method removes unexpected noise contained in images after input at high speed, and then extracts an area of interest that can represent personal information, such as skin areas, from the image in which noise has been removed. In this paper, noise generated by abnormal electrical signals is removed by applying bilateral filters. A color model created through pre-learning is then used to extract the area of interest that represents the personal information contained within the image. Experimental results show that the introduced algorithms remove noise from high-speed images and then extract the area of interest robustly. The approach presented in this paper is expected to be useful in various applications related to computer vision, such as image preprocessing, noise elimination, tracking and monitoring of target areas, etc.

  • In the computerized tomography(CT), various filters are using in the reconstruction algorithm to reduce or eliminate the artifacts which are intrinsically induced by the imperfection of mathematical methods for reconstruction, lack of real informations about anatomic structures in the projection image, errors in data acquisition and so on. Hann filter was used to evaluate the filter effects on the elimination of reconstruction artifact in the CT image. The quantitative study was done by changing cut-off frequency of Hann filter from 0.1 to 0.9 with frequency increasement by 0.2. NPS analysis was fulfilled for the quantitative evaluation of filter effect.

  • Under the interference of the temperature effect, the alternation of cable force due to damages of a cable-stayed bridge could be difficult to distinguish. Considering the convenience and applicability in engineering practice, simple air or cable temperature measurements are adopted in the current study for the exclusion of temperature effect from the variation of cable force. Using the data collected from Ai-Lan Bridge located in central Taiwan, this work applies the ensemble empirical mode decomposition to process the time histories of cable force, air temperature, and cable temperature. It is evidently observed that the cable force and both types of temperature can all be categorized as the daily variation, long-term variation, and high-frequency noise in the order of decreasing weight. Moreover, the correlation analysis conducted for the decomposed variations of all these three quantities undoubtedly indicates that the daily and long-term variations with different time shifts have to be distinguished for accurately evaluating the temperature effect on the variation of cable force. Finally, consistent results in reducing the range of cable force variation after the elimination of temperature effect confirm the validity and stability of the developed method.
