  • The hydraulic pressure pulsation has on the effected on the acoustic nosie and control performance of the hydraulic-servo system. The Helmholtz attenuator introduction on the hydraulic line is an efficient device to reduce the hydraulic pulsation. The salient feature of causing hydraulic pulsation and the frequency characteristics of Helmholtz attenuator are studied. The hydraulic filter design parameters such as the locating position, connecting orifice area and accumulator volume are mathematically analyzed. The instrumental works are carried out with the remarkable reduction of the hydraulic pressure pulsation magnitude and the acoustic noise level.

  • Purpose : To evaluate the usefulness of acoustic noise attenuator on auditory fMRI examination. Materials and methods : The acoustic noise attenuator consists of mask, earmuff and silicon earplug. The soft polyurethane sheet and polyurethane form , which has a good soundproof characteristic were used for mask and earmuff. Auditory fMRI experiments of 500 Hz pure tone stimulation were performed in three different cases; first all of mask, earmuff and earplug, secondly earmuff and earplug only and finally without attenuator in 4 normal hearing volunteers. For data acquisition, BOLD MR imaging technique was employed at a 1.5T MR scanner equipped with high performance gradient system. The raw data were analyzed using a SPM-99 analysis software and the activation maps were obtained. Results : In case of all items of acoustic attenuator used, the results revealed that activation was focused on primary auditory area. When only earmuff and earplug were used, the results showed that the activation spread over primary auditory and secondary associative areas. Last, when no device used, only weak activation was observed on the right auditory cortex. Conclusion : It is expected that the acoustic noise attenuator, which consists of earplugs, earmuffs and mask, is a very useful device in auditory fMRI study.

  • In this paper, an expansion-resonator type pulsation attenuator is proposed to absorb and attenuate flow an pressure ripple with high frequencies generated from hydraulic control systems. The basic principle of a pulsation attenuator proposed here is applied to propagation, reflection, absorption of pressure waves at the cross section of discontinuity and resonance in the pipeline. It has advantage of the compact size and high degree fo freedom for installation in hydraulic systems. The design scheme based on distributed parameter pipeline system with dissipative viscous compressible model is developed. To investigate the reduction of flow and pressure ripple with high frequencies produced by swash plate type axial piston pump, two kinds of attenuators are manufactured. It is experimently confirmed that the spectral intensity of flow and pressure ripple with high frequencies from the pump are reduced up to about 20$^{\circ}$~30dB by using attenuators proposed here. The calculated results were in good agreement with the measured values. From there sults of this study, it is shown that an expansion-resonator type pulsation attenuator is effective in a wide frequency ranges to attenuate the flow and pressure ripple from hydraulic components.

  • This paper studies the effect of the number of filters in the CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) layer on the performance of a noise attenuator. Speech is estimated from a noised speech signal using a 64-neuron, 16-kernel CNN filter and an error back-propagation algorithm. In this study, in order to verify the performance of the noise attenuator with respect to the number of filters, a program using Keras library was written and simulation was performed. As a result of simulation, it can be seen that this system has the smallest MSE (Mean Squared Error) and MAE (Mean Absolute Error) values when the number of filters is 16, and the performance is the lowest when there are 4 filters. And when there are more than 8 filters, it was shown that the MSE and MAE values do not differ significantly depending on the number of filters. From these results, it can be seen that about 8 or more filters must be used to express the characteristics of the speech signal.

  • This paper studied a method of attenuating nonlinear noise using a Wiener filter of a neural network structure in an acoustic noise attenuator. This system improves nonlinear noise attenuation performance with a deep learning algorithm using a neural network Wiener filter instead of using a conventional adaptive filter. A voice is estimated from a single input voice signal containing nonlinear noise using a 128-neuron, 8-neuron hidden layer and an error back propagation algorithm. In this study, a simulation program using the Keras library was written and a simulation was performed to verify the attenuation performance for nonlinear noise. As a result of the simulation, it can be seen that the noise attenuation performance of this system is significantly improved when the FNN filter is used instead of the Wiener filter even when nonlinear noise is included. This is because the complex structure of the FNN filter expresses any type of nonlinear characteristics well.

  • Landscape plants as attenuator of vehicular noise were basically experimented with 8 kinds of trees and shrubs at the university nursery, and checked the attenuating effects by the planted distances, species and sound frequencies. The experimental results are shown and sumarized as follows ; 1. Most plants showed the considerable noise attenuating function in the sound frequencies of 63Hz and 1,000Hz. Tall trees such as Juniperus chinensis var. kaizuka and Magnolia grandiflora showed better effects than shrubs or small trees such as Gardenia jasminoides, Osmanthus fragnance, Osmanthrs heterophyllus, Rhododendron indicum, Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Tetragona Aurea' and Pinus paruiflora in 63Hz frequency, but shrubs showed better effects in 1,000Hz. 2. Trees showed 6~8dB attenuation and shrubs 4~5dB regardless an increase of distance between sound source and receiver in 63Hz. 10 meter width of tree belt could reduce 10 more dB, but 5 meter of shrub belt showed the same effect in 1,000Hz. 3. Trees having more leaves and wider crown showed constantly increase of attenuation of sound by the distance in 1,000Hz, and distinct increase of attenuation were observed in 2,000 more Hz.

  • Occasionally, MODEM test in satellite communication systems are needed. But Rx terminals in satellite communications are designed to obtain high SNR generally, therefore artificial bad conditions and environments are demanded for the test. One of the typical method is satellite output power reduction. Using noise generator can be another method. However, these costs a lot of money, time, and procedures in reality. In order to overcome these problems, this paper proposes an artificial noise generation method for MODEM test in satellite communication systems. First of all, SNR of a general heterodyne Rx terminal is calculated. Based on the calculation, a new model which is including variable attenuator is proposed to increase noise level. Simulation results illustrate the variable attenuator can control SNR, and these show that MODEM test in satellite communication systems be possible.

  • An experimental study on firing noise of K2 rifle was performed. Firing noises of K2 rifle were measured at close distance to rifle. Firing noise of K2 rifle which made in Korea, has not measured before. The measurement of firing noise at close distance is not simple, because the amplitude of firing noise is much bigger than the measuring limit of ordinary sound level meter even though it uses a signal attenuator. The measurement of firing noise at close distance is necessary for noise source positioning and for obtaining the sound power of K2 rifle. By this experimental study, the firing noise levels of K2 rifle at different positions are obtained and these data can be used to Predict the sound pressure level at any distance from muzzle of the rifle. Also these data can be used to calculate the threshold shift of gunner's ear.

  • In this paper, a new power amplifier is proposed for reduction of amplified RX band noise signals as well as intermodulation distortion signals using feedforward technique. This power amplifier is implemented for IMT-2000 basestation TX frequency band. Both TX band intermodulation distortion signals and RX band noise signals are reduced by controlling variable attenuator, phase shifter and error amplifier. The proposed power amplifier, which contains two loops-intermodulation distortion signals cancellation loop and RX band noise signals cancellation loop, can provide duplexer with low TX path insertion loss for various wireless communication systems due to choice of loose RX attenuation characteristic. The principle of the proposed amplifier is described graphically based on the conceptual schematic diagram. A two-tone test for power amplifier is done at 2.14GHz with frequency spacing of 5MHz, and RX band rejection test is done over RX full band of 60MHz with 1.95GHz center frequency. Experimental results represent that the cancellation performance of intermodulation distortion signals and RX band noise signals are more than 3 1dB and 21dB, respectively.
