Ozone has been a problem in big cities. That is secondary air pollutant produced by nitrogen oxide and VOCs in the atmosphere. In order to solve this, the first to be the analysis of the $NO_x$ and VOCs. The main source of nitrogen oxide is the road mobile. Industrial sources in Seoul are particularly low, and mobile traffics on roads are large, so 45% of total $NO_x$ are estimated that road mobile emissions in Seoul. Thus, it is necessary to clarify the relation with the activity of road mobile source and $NO_x$ concentration. In this study, we analyzed the 4 locations with roadside automatic monitoring systems in their center. The V.K.T. calculating areas are set in circles with 50 meter spacing, 50 meter to 500 meter from their center. We assumed the total V.K.T. in the set radius affect the $NO_x$ concentration in the center. We used the hourly $NO_x$ concentrations data for the 4 observation points in July for the interference of the other sources are minimized. We used the intersection traffic survey data of all direction for construction of the V.K.T. data, the mobile activities on the roads. ArcGIS application was used for calculating the length of roads in the set radius. The V.K.T. data are multiplied by segment traffic volume and length of roads. As a result, the $NO_x$ concentration can be expressed as linear function formula for V.K.T. with high predictive power. Moreover we separated background concentration and concentrations due to road mobile source. These results can be used for forecasting the effect of traffic demand management plan.
This experimental study measures the emotional and physiological responses of customers as to cafe facade design. It is done through eye-tracking and EEG response experiments. Specifically, their visual concentration and EEG concentration are analyzed in line with their facade preferences. The findings are as follows. First, the correlation between their facade preferences and visual concentration on facades is as follows: Highly preferable facades have a lower visual concentration frequency than the less preferable facades. Second, an analysis of $12{\times}12$ lattice division of facades shows that all facades have a high visual concentration for signs. The exceptions are F(6), F(7), F(8), and F(10). There is no correlation between the facade preferences and visual concentration behaviors for particular facade elements. Third, an analysis of prefrontal lobe's facade concentration shows that there is no correlation between the preferences and EEG concentration. However, there are big differences in the prefrontal lobe activity of 12 subjects depending on the facade. In particular, nine of them (3, 9, 13, 14, 15, 28, 36, 38, 43) show an activated prefrontal lobe as to the highly preferable facades-F(1), F(2), F(3), and F(4). However, such activation is not detected on the less preferable facades-F(9), F(10), F(11), and F(12).
The electrical energy consumption (EEC) in removal of NO by a $UV/H_2O_2$ oxidation process was introduced and related to removal efficiency of this gas. The absorption-reaction of NO was conducted in a bubble column reactor in the presence of $SO_2$. The variation in NO removal efficiency was investigated for various process parameters including NO and $SO_2$ inlet concentrations, initial concentration of $H_2O_2$ solution and gas flow rate. EEC values were obtained in these different conditions. The removal efficiency was increased from about 22% to 54.7% when $H_2O_2$ concentration increased from 0.1 to 1.5 M, while EEC decreased by about 70%. However, further increase in $H_2O_2$ concentration, from 1.5 to 2, had no significant effect on NO absorption and EEC. An increase in NO inlet concentration, from 200 to 500 ppm, decreased its removal efficiency by about 10%. However, EEC increased from $2.9{\times}10^{-2}$ to $3.9{\times}10^{-2}kWh/m^3$. Results also revealed that the presence of $SO_2$ had negative effect on NO removal percentage and EEC values. Some experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of $H_2O_2$ solution pH. The changing of pH of oxidation-absorption medium in the ranges between 3 to 10, had positive and negative effects on removal efficiency depending on pH value.
There is growing concern about cross infection among the patients to patients, patients to staffs, and tools to patients in healthcare facilities, especially in dentistry. In this study, the most widely used dental impression materials were prepared and the synergy effect of Chlorhexidine and essential oil on antimicrobial activity was examined in the impression materials. Chlorhexidine concentration of 0.1 wt% and 0.5 wt% showed no antimicrobial activity on Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Candida albicans. At 1.0 wt% Chlorhexidine, 0% of E. coli and 34.7% of Candida albicans were survived. Bergamot (Essential oil) concentration of 0.5 wt% and 1.0 wt% showed no antimicrobial activity on E. coli. At 2.0 wt% Bergamot oil, 71.9% of E. coli were survived. Tea tree oil (Essential oil) of 0.5 wt% showed no antimicrobial activity on E. coli. At 1.0 wt% Tea tree oil, 11.2% of E. coli was survived. At 2.0 wt% Tea tree oil, no E. coli was survived. However, no E. coli was survived at the concentration of 0.8 wt% Bergamot with 0.3 wt% Chlorhexidine. At the concentration of 0.8 wt% Tea Tree oil with 0.3 wt% Chlorhexidine, 1.3% of E. coli were survived. The experimental results showed that the synergy effects between Chlorhexidine and essential oils on antimicrobial activity were prominent.
The KrF laser was employed to study NO fluorescence in lean-bum as well as in soot-bum flames. Blue-shifted NO fluorescence was observed in both of the flames. For both of the flames, the fluorescence intensity of NO and its relative background noise signal were measured with respect to the concentration of seeded NO molecule in the flame and the laser intensity. The results were analyzed qualitatively. Also, NO concentration distribution in the lean-bum flame was qualitatively determined from the intensity of the NO fluorescence. cence.
The effects of inorganic nitrogen sources such as KNO$_3$ and NH$_4$ NO$_3$ on cell growth and production of chlorogenic acid and eleutheroside E derivative were investigated in 5L bioreactor cultures of Eleutherococcus senticosus. The cell growth in the 1/2MS medium containing 15mMKNO$_{3}$. The fresh weight of cells harvested from bioreactor was affected by the concentration ratio of NO$_3$$^{[-10]}$ and NH$_4$$^{+}$ in culture medium. At the viewpoint of secondary metabolite production, the production of chlorogenic acid was affected by the concentration of NH$_4$$^{+}$ in the culture medium, but not by the total concentration of nitrogen sources in the culture medium. Futhermore, eleutheroside E derivative production was also affected by the concentration ratio of NO$_3$$^{[-10]}$ and NH$_4$$^{+}$ in the culture medium. Base on those results, it is suggested that cell growth and production of secondary metabolite(chlorogenic acid and eleutheroside E derivative) could be manipulated by controlling the total concentration of nitrogen sources and the concentration ratio of NO$_3$$^{[-10]}$ and NH$_4$$^{+}$ in the culture medium. medium.
Arthrospira platensis (A. platensis) is one of the most explored cyanobacteria and has been studied for proteins, vitamins, pigment (chlorophyll and carotenoids) and fatty acid. In this study, we tested the effect of $NaHCO_3$ and $NaNO_3$ on the microalgae growth under photoautothrophic culture in A. platensis. As a result, cell growth and dry cell weight were increased in proportion to the $NaHCO_3$ and $NaNO_3$ concentration. Pigment (chlorophyll and carotenoids) contents of A. platensis were increased with proportion to $NaHCO_3$ concentration. But, the content of pigment (chlorophyll and carotenoids) in 100% $NaNO_3$ medium of A. platensis was the highest, 40%, 140% and 200% $NaNO_3$ medium with pigment content of A. platensis was reduced. In conditions of $NaHCO_3$ (50%) or $NaNO_3$ (40%) limitation, A. platensis could accumulate lipids to high as 1.7-fold and 1.3-fold.

Concentration of particulate nitrate originated from sea salt in ambient air was determined from February to October 1993. Sampling was carried out using a two-stage Anderson air sampler at the top of a five-story building located at Kon-Kuk University in Seoul. Concentration of NaNO$_3$, which originated from sea salt was highest in spring time and lowest in summer the and the concentration range was between 0.10 and 0.66 $\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥. NaNO$_3$/TSP ratio was very low 0.05~0.39%) indicating that the portion of NaNO$_3$ in TSP was negligible.
Treatability and maximum no inhibitory effect concentration of benzene were measured in the synthetic wastewater medium by the activated sludge in the continuous activated sludge reactor. The maximum no inhibitory effect concentration was 1, 600mg per liter. Benzene concentration over 500mg per liter inhibited the growth of microorganims by the measurment of E/BOD, and the treatability of benzene at the maximum no inhibitory effect concentration was over 95%.
Vehicles, especially diesel-using, are a major source of airborne particulate matter(PM), nitrogen dioxide($NO_2$) and so on in metropolitan cities such as Seoul. Therefore workers, who are mainly merchants, near roadside may be highly exposed to air pollutants from exhausted emissions of vehicles. This means that occupational type and location can affect the workers'health by exposure to outdoor pollutions of ambient as well as indoor pollutions of working condition, respectively. In this study, we simultaneously measured the PM3.5 and $NO_2$concentrations in indoor and outdoor of shoes repair shops in Seoul, which were generally located at roadside in Korea. Shoes repairmen were highly exposed to PM3.5 and $NO_2$ both indoor and outdoor of repair shops comparing with other sub-population groups. High exposure to air pollutants for shoes repairmen was considered to be outdoor source from exhausted emission of vehicles and indoor source from working condition. The $PM3.5/NO_2$ concentration ratio was $1.17{\pm}$0.59 in roadside, of which ratio was higher 7han ratios of other studies. This result suggested that major air pollutant in Seoul was fine particle. Also, this PM3.5 to $NO_2$ ratio will be used in environmental exposure and risk assessment by estimation of PM3.5 concentration as measuring the only $NO_2$ concentration with small and accurate $NO_2$ passive sampler.
