Since the 2000s, to start inducement of SCR(Selective Catalytic Reduction) denitrification facility by large scale companies which are emitted large amount of nitrogen oxides such as power plants, combined heat and power plant, incinerators and chemical plants due to take effect the regulation of stationary sources of nitrogen oxide(NOx), and the total amount of discharged pollutants, such as regulatory gradually emissions regulations are being strengthened and the expanded coverage due to the use of SCR denitrification catalyst is a growing trend. Since 2010 due to the new catalysts to replace the already installed power plants and incinerators due to inactive, and catalytic denitrification SCR waste catalyst waste as a resource rather than the development of technologies for recycling situation is urgently needed. In this study, analyzed paper and patent for recycling technologies of waste catalyst. The range of search was limited in the open patents of USA (US), European Union (EP), Japan (JP), Korea (KR) and SCI journals from 1975 to 2012. Patents and journals were collected using key-words searching and filtered by filtering criteria. The trends of the patents and journals was analyzed by the years, countries, companies, and technologies.
To reduce extensive energy costs of the internal recycling for the purpose of denitrification in the advanced wastewater treatment, a post-treatment process using an electro-coagulation to treat nitrate in the secondary effluents is evaluated in this study. Removals of phosphorus and organics in the secondary effluents by the electro-coagulation were also evaluated to propose an alternative advanced wastewatert treatment process. A series of experiments of the electro-coagulation were carried out with the following 4 different samples: synthetic solution containing nitrate only, synthetic solution containing nitrate as well as phosphorus, secondary effluents from activated sludge cultivated in laboratory, and secondary effluents from real wastewater treatment plants. Removals of nitrate and phosphorus in the synthetic solution were 30 and 97 % respectively, which verified the feasibility of the process. Removals of nitrate, phosphorus and COD in the secondary effluents from the cultivated sludge in laboratory were 49, 90 and 19 % respectively. Removal efficiency of the total nitrogen, nitrrate, phosphorus and COD in the secondary effluent from real wastewater treatment plant were 50, 61, 98 and 80 % respectively. The removal of the total nitrogen was less than the nitrate as expected, which is due to the formation of ammonia nitrogen in the cathode. But the proposed scheme could be an energy saving and alternative process for the advanced wastewater treatment if further studies for the process optimization are carried out.
Livestock production in Vietnam is, as in most Asian countries, increasing rapidly and changing into specialized highly intensified operations. The volume of animal excreta generated exceeds the capacity of the operation land base and cannot be utilized efficiently. As a consequence, there is a loss of plant nutrients from livestock farms that causes environmental pollution. This study carried out a feed and excretion experiment measuring fecal characteristic, daily fecal production, daily nitrogen and phosphorous excretion from grower-finisher pigs fed prevalent rations in Vietnam. Furthermore, equations for assessing the excretion were tested, which can be used in farm models for optimal recycling of manure while focusing on reducing pollution. The results indicated that fecal production and nutrient excretion were affected by the different rations tested. This study showed that five selected equations for predicting excretion from grower-finisher pigs in Danish conditions can also be used with precision in Vietnamese pig farming systems. The equations have been proven valid and can, therefore, be used as a much needed tool for assessing fecal production and nitrogen in excreta on pig farms. The study also showed that about 12% of nitrogen excreted was emitted during housing. Waste water contains more than half of the nitrogen excreted, mainly in ammonium form which has a high potential for gaseous emission.

A study was made on the synthesis of a carbonate base nitrogen-free deliming agent using a non-phosgene compound applicable to the deliming process, which is one of the biggest sources of pollutant increasing the T-N concentration in the effluent from the leather making processes. And also studied on the possibility of using the agent in the deliming process. Through measurement of T-N, BOD, COD and SS in the effluent after the agent is used, contents of Ca and Cr and TS in the leather after the deliming process were measured, by which deliming efficiency, influences to the physical properties of the chromium tanned leather and reducing effects of T-N, BOD, COD and SS concentrations in the effluent could be confirmed. Thus an eco-friendly study has been conducted.

Once of recent issue in the leather industry is disposal of shaving scrap containing chromium. Shaving scrap is indispensible generated by control of the final thickness in the leather making process. It is the flesh layer of the skin consisting mainly of collagen. More recently, we have tried to improve the quality of the isolated gelatin. The purpose of this research was to extract gelatin for agricultural usage. As a result, it does not contain Cr and could obtained to a good gelatin that have more than 130,000Da. average molecular weight, more than 30 mps viscosity and more than 100g jelly strength. Gelatin that is extracted by alkaline condition expected to be available to high performance gelatin such as material of organic fertilizer(ex, Nitrogen-release fertilizer).
AlN powder was prepared by carbon reduction and subsequent nitridation method through lab- scale experiments. AlN powder was synthesized using the mixture of high purity $Al_2O_3$ powder and carbon black at $1,600{\sim}1,700^{\circ}C$ for 0.5~6 hours under nitrogen atmosphere (flow rate of nitrogen gas: $4.7{\times}10^{-6}{\sim}20{\times}10^{-6}m^3/sec$) with variation of charged height of the mixture powder. Experimental results showed that size of the synthesized particles grows with increasing of temperature. The reaction activation energy was calculated as 382 kJ/mol at the temperature range, and it was considered that chemical reaction is the rate determining step. Content of oxygen and nitrogen of the prpared samples were 0.71~0.96 wt% and 30.7~35.1 wt%. The results was similar with those of the commercial AlN product.
Ruminal protozoa, especially entodiniomorphs, engulf other members of the rumen microbiome in large numbers; and they release oligopeptides and amino acids, which can be fermented to ammonia and volatile fatty acids (VFAs) by amino acid-fermenting bacteria (AAFB). Studies using defaunated (protozoa-free) sheep have demonstrated that ruminal protozoa considerably increase intraruminal nitrogen recycling but decrease nitrogen utilization efficiency in ruminants. However, direct interactions between ruminal protozoa and AAFB have not been demonstrated because of their inability to establish axenic cultures of any ruminal protozoan. Thus, this study was performed to evaluate the interaction between Entodinium caudatum, which is the most predominant rumen ciliate species, and an AAFB consortium in terms of feed degradation and ammonia production along with the microbial population shift of select bacterial species (Prevotella ruminicola, Clostridium aminophilum, and Peptostreptococcus anaerobius). From an Ent. caudatum culture that had been maintained by daily feeding and transfers every 3 or 4 days, the bacteria and methanogens loosely associated with Ent. caudatum cells were removed by filtration and washing. An AAFB consortium was established by repeated transfers and enrichment with casamino acids as the sole substrate. The cultures of Ent. caudatum alone (Ec) and AAFB alone (AAFB) and the co-culture of Ent. caudatum and AAFB (Ec + AAFB) were set up in three replicates and incubated at 39℃ for 72 h. The digestibility of dry matter (DM) and fiber (NDF), VFA profiles, ammonia concentrations, pH, and microscopic counts of Ent. caudatum were compared among the three cultures. The co-culture of AAFB and Ent. caudatum enhanced DM degradation, VFA production, and Ent. caudatum cell counts; conversely, it decreased acetate: propionate ratio although the total bacterial abundance was similar between Ec and the Ec + AAFB co-culture after 24 h incubation. The ammonia production and relative abundance of C. aminophilum and P. anaerobius did not differ between AAFB alone and the Ec + AAFB co-culture. Our results indicate that Ent. caudatum and AAFB could have a mutualistic interaction that benefited each other, but their interactions were complex and might not increase ammoniagenesis. Further research should examine how such interactions affect the population dynamics of AAFB.

The aim of this study is to determine the removal efficiency of total nitrogen and phosphorus from treated swine wastewater by Phragmites australis and Miscanthus sacchariflorus var Geode Uksae-1, and to determine its biomass total energy value and biomethane potential. Plants were grown with a bedding mixture either soil and sand or soil, sand, and bioceramic. Treeated swine wastewater with Total nitrogen (TN) and Total phosphorus (TP) of 222.78 mg/L and 66.11 mg/L, respectively, was utilized. The TN and TP removal is higher in the bio-ceramic-soil-sand bedding media treatment. The highest TN removal of 96.14% was performed by Miscanthus sacchariflorus var Geode Uksae-1, but the elemental analysis shows that Phragmites australis contains more nitrogen than Miscanthus sacchariflorus var Geode Uksae-1, indicating higher nitrogen uptake. The highest TP removal of 98.12% was performed by Phragmites australis. The cellulose content of the plant grown with the bioceramic-soil-sand bedding was approximately 3-6% higher than that of the plant grown in the soil-sand bedding. Different growing substrates may have an effect on the fiber content of plants. The biomethane potential of the produced biomass of the plants was between 57.01 and $99.25L-CH_4/kg$ VS. The lignin content is believed to inhibit the breakdown of plant biomass, resulting in the lowest methane production in the Phragmites australis grown in the soil-sand bedding media.

Soluble nitrogen produced from anaerobic digestor is able to have a strong influence on the effluent water quality of municipal wastewater treatment plants during a winter season in particular. The modeling results using the GPS-X simulation software shows that the soluble nitrogen concentration generated from the anaerobic digestor is 214.1 mg/L in the return flow and 6.2 mg/L in the inflow of the primary settler higher than those in nonexistence of the anaerobic digestor, respectively. In the case of using a separation process (flotation thickener) in order to treat the return flow from the sludge treatment system, the soluble nitrogen concentration in the effluent from the separation process and in the inflow of the primary setter could be 6.0 mg/L higher and 0.7 mg/L lower than those of nonexistence of the process, respectively. The modeling results propose the need of the equipments to be able to remove the soluble nitrogen ($NH_3-N$) produced from the digestor in the improvement projects of anaerobic digestor in municipal wastewater treatment plants.

The feasibility of HWS for agricultural use was analyzed through a crop cultivation test to utilize the hydroponic waste solution (HWS) generated from the nutriculture greenhouse. The fertilizing effect of HWS was assessed on the basis of the inorganic nitrogen (N) mostly existed in HWSs, and nitrogen (urea) fertilizer. Lettuce was selected as the target crop influenced by the soil treatment and also for the crop cultivation test. Thus, the change in growth characteristics of lettuce and that in chemical characteristics of the soil were investigated. In terms of the growth of lettuce, the C control group with 70% nitrogen (urea) fertilizer and 30% HWS and the D control group with 50% nitrogen (urea) fertilizer and 50% HWS were more effective than the practice control group (B) with 100% nitrogen (urea) fertilizer. The results of this study confirmed the combined applicability of the chemical fertilizer and HWS for crop cultivation. Because NO3-N present in HWS has a high possibility of leaching into the soil, its applicability as a fertilizer has been considered to be relatively low in Korea. However, if an appropriate mixing ratio of urea fertilizer and HWS could be applied, the problems associated with leaching of nitrate nitrogen could be reduced with beneficial effects on crop cultivation. Thus, future studies are required on the treatment effect of HWS with repeated cultivation, impact assessment on the surrounding environment, and appropriate fertilization methods using nitrogen (urea) fertilizer and HWS. These studies would facilitate the sustainable recycling of HWS.
