안개제거 방법을 이용한 환경변화에 강인한 실시간 야간 가시성 향상 (Robust Real-time Night Visibility Enhancement for Environmental Change using Haze Removal Method)

  • In this paper, we propose improved night visibility enhancement algorithm based on haze removal method. The proposed method uses new haze removal method in place of the conventional methods. Our night visibility enhancement method is very good and faster than traditional methods. This method also uses additionally local histogram equalization for sharpening the enhanced image. Our method can be applied to any application that uses a visible light camera, and it is appropriate to apply a black box, vehicle camera, and cell phone camera, since it is possible that real-time processing.

시판 야간 안전복의 기능성 및 가시성 평가 (Evaluation of the Functionality and Visibility of Commercial High-Visibility Clothing for Nighttime Usage)

  • To assist the further development of hight-visibility clothing this study compared the visibility and subjective wear sensation of commercial protective vests with retro-reflecting materials or LEDs. Nine subjects compared high-visibility vests to evaluate how easy they were to see when exposed to the headlight of a car at night, and the subjects assessed the wear sensation of the vests also. The intensity and visibility of five different colored LEDs assembled on the five substrates separately were also evaluated to select the suitable LED color for night protective clothing. The intensity of illumination was measured by an illuminometer, and the visibility was evaluated by 11 participants both in a dark room and in front of a car outdoors at night. Results showed, the most effective LEDs were high intensity LEDs which shift blinking red and white were most effective. However, excessively high intensity of illumination could decrease the working efficiency. In subjective wear evaluation, the most favorable vest had a front opening, were adjustable at the sides, and had an electric power switch on the front of the vest.

농기계의 등화장치가 운전자의 야간시인성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Agricultural Machine Lighting systems on Drivers Night Visibility)

  • 본 연구는 야간 시간대의 농기계 주행시 등화장치 장착여부에 따른 운전자의 야간시인성분석을 목표로 하였다. 야간시인성 분석을 위해 등화장치에 대한 휘도측정실험과 안구운동측정기기를 활용한 주시시간측정실험을 수행하였다. 휘도측정실험결과, 농기계와의 상대거리가 가까워지며 등화장치의 상태가 양호해질수록 휘도 값이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 주시시간측정실험에서는 주행속도에 상관없이 등화장치의 상태가 양호해질수록 농기계에 대한 총 주시시간이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 연구결과, 농기계에 등화장치를 장착할 경우 농기계에 대한 운전자의 야간 시인성이 향상되어 농기계사고의 예방에 큰 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

FOLED를 이용한 마이크로 모빌리티 사용자용 의류의 거리에 따른 시그널 가시성 연구 (A Study of Signal Visibility according to the Distance of Clothing for Micro-mobility Users using FOLED)

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the degree of visibility of FOLED (fiber optic light-emitting diode) materials applied to safety-enhancing clothes of micro-mobility users during the day and night by conducting an empirical test targeting 50 people in their teens, 20's, 30's, 40's, and 50's or older. First, the results of the visibility test at 10 m-intervals from 10 to 70 m based on the clothes sample showed that the light detection of FOLED material was very good without daytime or night-time distinction. Second, the results of directional sign detection of FOLED were confirmed to be very high without any daytime or night. Third, the results of identifying a pictogram design showed that the distance was shorter than that of light detection or directional indication. However, the FOLED pictogram design could be confirmed at a distance of 50 m or less. Therefore, if a clothes product using FOLED material is worn and micro-mobility is used, the experimental results indicate that safety will be sufficiently secured due to the excellent visibility.

  • According to the analysis of crosswalk pedestrian accidents, accidents that occur at night represent 70% of all deaths among crosswalk pedestrians when compared to accidents occurring in the daytime. This is due to the poor visibility that hinders drivers to recognize pedestrians at night. Illuminance on the horizontal plane of the road and the current state of crosswalk lighting are not sufficient enough to comply with standards. Thus, we analyzed factors derived from lighting environment studies on improving crosswalk visibility, domestic and foreign crosswalk lighting standards, and subsequently proposed solutions which are needed to raise domestic crosswalk lighting standards, and a means to uphold those standards through proper verification.

  • 야간도로 노면 밝기는 운전자가 도로 상 장애물을 인지하고 안전하게 운행하는데 있어 매우 중요한 요소이다. 본 연구에서는 정량적인 야간도로 시인성을 평가에 필요한 야간 도로 노면 영상정보 수집 및 처리용 모바일 체계를 제시하였다. 야간 도로 노면에서 수집되는 영상정보를 효율적으로 변환하고 야간도로 시인성에 대한 공간적인 분포를 파악할 수 있는 선형자료를 구축하였다. 이를 위해 저전력 컴퓨팅기술, 개방형 영상처리 기술, GPU 기반 가속 기술 및 도큐멘트데이터베이스 기술 등을 적용하였고 RGB영상으로부터 YUV색상체계로 변환하고 밝기에 해당하는 요소만 추출하여 공간정보와 통합하였다. 그 결과 고성능 안드로이드 단말기를 이용하여 도로밝기 자료를 취득하고 제안한 프로토타입으로 야간도로 시인성에 대한 공간적인 평가를 위한 자료 구축의 공간적 분포를 파악할 수 있었다.

  • The night visibility of pavement is being considered as a global issue in the field of traffic safety. Although the spreading glass beads on the lane paints has been mainly used to secure night-visibility by utilizing the effect of retroreflection, obvious shortcoming of this method is that retroflection does not occur in the range where the headlights do not reach the glass beads. The use of functional paints including phosphorescent constituents could be a solution for overcoming fore-mentioned problem. SrAl2O4 based chemicals have not only good phosphorescent property, but also are chemically stable compared to existing ZnS based materials. However, this chemicals also need the improvement due to slightly reduced luminous effect in time. Herein, we developed novel paints showing enhanced phosphorescent properties by putting rare earth elements such as Eu, Dy and Y into SrAl2O4. These prepared phosphorescent pigments have displayed improved properties in terms of durability and long afterglow. For instance, the property of afterglow has been persisted after 5 hours with luminace of 20.6 mcd/m2.

일반도로 중앙분리대 측 백색 실선 도입 타당성 분석 연구 (Feasibility Analysis for White Pavement Markings in the Roadways with Median Barrier)

  • PURPOSES: This study analyzes feasibility for application white pavement markings in the roadways with median barrier. METHODS : By reviewing numerous relevant laws, standards, and operational cases, the white pavement markings' excellence was demonstrated. Driver's behavior was analyzed through a virtual driving experiment using driving simulator and field tests. RESULTS:First, white pavement markings are superior to yellow pavement markings in terms of visibility, economics, and safety. Second, as a result of virtual driving experiment, the color of line in the roadway with median barrier didn't affect the driver's behavior such as the average vehicle speed, the distance bias in the lane and the separation distance from the centerline. Third, field test demonstrated that the driver tended to recognize the median barrier as an obstacle. In addition, the central driving ratio in the lane was increased due to improving the visibility of line at night in case of the white pavement markings. CONCLUSIONS : The application of white pavement markings in the roadways with median barrier can enhance traffic safety by improving the visibility of line at night.

겨울 야간 하늘에 노출된 평판에 의한 복사냉각 실험 (Nocturnal Radiant Cooling during the Winter by the Plate Viewing the Sky)

  • The radiant cooling(RC) effects are studied during the winter night. The plate was viewing the nighttime sky. The data were collected at the rooftop of the Engineering building at the Dongguk University in Seoul, Korea. As observed during the summer night, the plate temperature was lower than ambient temperature under the RC favorable conditions. The parameters under study are the wind velocity, cloud index, and visibility for given system size and surface condition. The results follow the same tendency with these parameters as observed from the previous study for the summer night. As long as the wind velocity is less than around 2 m/s, the radiant cooling was observed with the system under study. In some cases, the radiant cooling temperature differences (RCTD) are higher than those for the summer night. The larger the RCTD as the wind velocity decreases and as the sky becomes clear.
