야시조명계통 요구도 분석 (Analysis of Requirements for Night Vision Imaging System)

  • This paper concerns about the requirement analysis for night vision imaging system(NVIS), whose purpose is to intensify the available nighttime near infrared(IR) radiation sufficiently to be caught by the human eyes on a miniature green phosphor screen. The requirements for NVIS are NVIS radiance(NR), chromaticity, daylight legibility/readability, etc. The NR is a quantitative measure of night vision goggle (NVG) compatibility of a light source as viewed through goggles. The chromaticity is the quality of a color as determined by its purity and dominant wavelength. The daylight legibility/readability is the degree at which words are readable based on appearance and a measure of an instrument's ability to display incremental changes in its output value. In this paper, the requirements of NR, chromaticity, and daylight legibility/readability for Type I and Class B/C NVIS are analyzed. Also the rationale is shown with respect to those requirements.

  • 본 논문은 저속통제기 야시조명계통 개발에 관한 논문이다. 현대전에서는 야간특수작전수행과 조종사 임무 극대화를 위하여 야시조명계통을 항공기에 적용하는 추세이다. 국내 최초로 야시조명계통이 적용된 저속통제기는 적지에서 저고도로 비행하며 주/야간 적 지형 및 적군들의 이동 등에 관한 정보를 획득하는 전술통제기이다. 저속통제기 야시조명계통 개발을 통하여 국내 최초로 적용된 이 분야의 개발 요구도 설정, 개발규격 정립, 시스템 개발 및 시험평가체계 구축을 성공적으로 완수하여 적기에 군 사용가 판정을 획득하였다.

  • A Decal Panel is developed for the Night Vision Imaging System of XKO-1 aircraft. The Decal Panel is a kind of lighting system kits and is installed on each system switch box in crewstation. The Decal Panel consists of upper panel made of polycarbonate and lower panel which is a printed circuit board. This paper includes the design, manufacture, test and evaluation of Decal Panel in addition to items and conditions of environmental test. Besides it is confirmed the Key for manufacturing a decal panel, is depth of paint, dry time period and frequency, and diffusion material for spreading of light.

  • By adapting black body leadflame and thin film type Green A filter, we successfully demonstrated night vision imaging system (NVIS) Green A compatible LED. Fabricated NVIS compatible LEDs show small form factor compared to that of commercialized NVIS compatible LED. Especially, NVIS radiance and chromaticity of MIL-STD-3009 specification can be satisfied simultaneously and easily by controlling the color temperature of the white LED as well as the concentration of the Green A dye and the thickness of the Green A filter. The optimal dye concentration of the NVIS Green A filter is expected to be about 1 wt%. The results of this study are expected to contribute to miniaturization, weight reduction and localization of avionic display and lighting devices.

항공기 야간투시경 운용 (Operation of Night Vision Goggle for Aircraft)

  • This paper describes the general considerations and operational applications of aircraft night vision goggle(NVG). The operators should recognize the NVG characteristics, natural night light sources and interoperability between them. And they have to keep attention to the method to take steps to avoid misperceptions, illusions during flight, and the negative impact on the effectiveness and safety of the mission. The considerations based on the interoperability between NVG and night operation suggest the evaluation items of NVG field test and flight test.

디테일 향상 기법을 적용한 자동차용 열상카메라 개발 (Thermal Imaging Camera Development for Automobiles using Detail Enhancement Technique)

  • 본 논문은 첨단운전자지원시스템(Advanced Driver Assist System, ADAS) 및 자율주행자동차 등에 영상 정보를 제공하는 자동차용 열상카메라를 개발하고 그 영상의 디테일을 향상하기 위한 개선된 기법을 제안한다. 열상카메라는 온도 측정과 야간 영상 확보 등을 목적으로 의료, 산업, 군수 등 다양한 분야에서 활용되고 있다. 스마트자동차에서는 야간 영상 확보를 위하여 적용되고 있다. 첨단운전자지원시스템 및 자율주행자동차 등의 영상 센서로 활용되기 위해서는 객체인식이 가능한 수준의 영상 해상도 및 디테일이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 자동차에 적용 가능한 $640{\times}480$ 해상도의 열상카메라를 개발하고 영상의 디테일을 향상하기 위한 BDE(Block-Range Detail Enhancement) 기법을 적용한다. 다양한 주행 환경에서 얻어지는 영상 디테일을 향상하기 위하여 대상 픽셀과 주변 8개의 픽셀 간의 Block-Range 값을 계산하여 5단계로 구분하고 각기 다른 Factor를 가감하도록 함으로써 활용도가 높은 영상을 얻을 수 있도록 한다. 개선된 기법은 130mK의 온도 차이까지 구분함으로써 영상의 어두운 부분도 상대적으로 세밀하게 구분하며, 영상의 밝은 부분과 어두운 부분 모두에서 고른 디테일 향상을 보여준다. 개발된 열상카메라와 디테일 향상 기법을 실차에 적용하고 시험하여 제안된 기법의 개선된 결과를 제시한다.

주성분 분석과 Blob 군집화를 이용한 열화상 사람 검출 시스템의 성능 향상 (Performance Improvement of Human Detection in Thermal Images using Principal Component Analysis and Blob Clustering)

  • 본 논문에서는 조명이 없는 야간 및 악천후 등 가시영상 카메라를 이용하여 사람 영역을 추정하기 힘든 환경에서의 대안으로 열화상 카메라를 이용한 사람검출 방법을 제안한다. 일반적인 열화상에서 사람은 주변 배경에 비해 밝게 표현되는 특징을 이용하여, 밝기 히스토그램 상의 사람의 열화상의 신뢰 구간을 계산해 1차적으로 사람 영역을 추정한 뒤, 가우시안 필터링 및 레이블링을 통해 불필요한 잡음을 제거한다. 그 이후에 Self-occlusion 등에 의해 분리된 사람 영역을 각 blob별 무게중심 및 분포정보를 이용하여 하나의 객체 영역을 추정한다. 최종적으로 추정 영역에 대한 가로와 세로의 비율 및 크기 정보와 주성분분석(PCA; principal component analysis)를 이용하여 추정된 영역에 대하여 사람인지 여부를 결정한다. 실험결과를 통하여, 제안된 방법은 가시영상에서 검출하기 힘든 환경들에 대하여 좋은 성능을 나타내는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Structural and temperature coefficient of resistance characteristics of colossal magnetoresistance Mn oxides prepared by RF sputtering

  • A lot of efforts have been paid to develop infrared imaging systems in last decades. Bolometer has a wide range of applications from military to commercial, such as military night vision, medical imaging system and so on. Bolometer is a resistive sensor that detects temperature changes through resistance change. To improve detecting ability, bolometer should have a good resistive film which has high temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) value. Colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) $L_{1-x}A_xMnO_3$ (where L and A are trivalent rare-earth ions and divalent alkaline earth ions, respectively.) are received attention to apply bolometer resistive film because it has a high TCR property which was discovered in the metal to semiconductor phase transition temperature region. In this work, CMR films were deposited on various substrates in relative low substrate temperature by RF magnetron sputtering. The influence of deposition parameters such as substrate temperature, gas partial pressure, and so on have been studied. The structural and TCR properties of the films were also investigated for applying to microbolometer.

Computer vision-based remote displacement monitoring system for in-situ bridge bearings robust to large displacement induced by temperature change

  • Efficient management of deteriorating civil infrastructure is one of the most important research topics in many developed countries. In particular, the remote displacement measurement of bridges using linear variable differential transformers, global positioning systems, laser Doppler vibrometers, and computer vision technologies has been attempted extensively. This paper proposes a remote displacement measurement system using closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs) and a computer-vision-based method for in-situ bridge bearings having relatively large displacement due to temperature change in long term. The hardware of the system is composed of a reference target for displacement measurement, a CCTV to capture target images, a gateway to transmit images via a mobile network, and a central server to store and process transmitted images. The usage of CCTV capable of night vision capture and wireless data communication enable long-term 24-hour monitoring on wide range of bridge area. The computer vision algorithm to estimate displacement from the images involves image preprocessing for enhancing the circular features of the target, circular Hough transformation for detecting circles on the target in the whole field-of-view (FOV), and homography transformation for converting the movement of the target in the images into an actual expansion displacement. The simple target design and robust circle detection algorithm help to measure displacement using target images where the targets are far apart from each other. The proposed system is installed at the Tancheon Overpass located in Seoul, and field experiments are performed to evaluate the accuracy of circle detection and displacement measurements. The circle detection accuracy is evaluated using 28,542 images captured from 71 CCTVs installed at the testbed, and only 48 images (0.168%) fail to detect the circles on the target because of subpar imaging conditions. The accuracy of displacement measurement is evaluated using images captured for 17 days from three CCTVs; the average and root-mean-square errors are 0.10 and 0.131 mm, respectively, compared with a similar displacement measurement. The long-term operation of the system, as evaluated using 8-month data, shows high accuracy and stability of the proposed system.

야간 투시 영상시스템의 Green A에 적합한 작은 형태인자를 가진 LED에 관한 연구 (A Study on LED with Small Form Factor Suitable for Green A of Night Vision Imaging System)

  • In this study, we have successfully developed an unique NVIS Green A compatible LED by combining two technologies. One is white LED made with a black EMC (epoxy molding compound) lead frame. The other is NVIS Green A filter that shields the near infrared region made in the film method. The form factor of the developed NVIS Green A compatible LED was 2.0 × 2.0 × 0.95 mm. And it is possible to satisfy NVIS radiance and color limit specified in MIL-STD-3009 by controlling the concentration of Green A dye and the thickness of the NVIS filter as well as adjusting of color temperature of the white LED. From these results, we are expected that the developed NVIS Green A suitable LED is a promising solution for the weight reduction and the cost reduction of avionic applications.
