  • As a p-type semiconductor NiO is potential material which can be used in many application including QD-LED. NiO films were deposited on glass substrates using rf-sputtering method. The properties of resistivity, surface roughness, etc in the NiO films were investigated at different sputtering parameters. The resistivity of $l.88{\times}10^{-2}{\sim}3.71{\times}10^{-2}{\Omega}cm$ with sputtering power(80~200 watts) and change was very low. The sputtering pressure at 3~60 mTorr resulted in rather broad change ofresistivity of $0.58{\times}10^{-2}{\sim}4.67{\Omega}cm$. The oxygen content in sputtering gas was found to be very effective to control the resistivity from $2.01{\times}10^{-2}$ to $1.22{\times}10^2{\Omega}cm$ with 100~2.5% $O_2$ in Ar gas. In addition, the surface roughness showed the RMS values of 0.6~1.1 nm and the dependence on sputtering parameters was weak.

  • The purpose of this work is to investigate the effect of dissolved hydrogen concentration on crud deposition onto the fuel cladding surface in the simulated primary environments of a pressurized water reactor. Crud deposition tests were conducted in the dissolved hydrogen concentration range of 5~70 cc/kg at $325^{\circ}C$ for 14 days. Needle-shaped NiO deposits were formed in the hydrogen range of 5~25 cc/kg, while polygonal nickel ferrite deposits were observed at a hydrogen concentration above 35 cc/kg. However, the dissolved hydrogen content seems to have little effect on the amount of crud deposits.

  • The effects of $B_4C$ on the mechanical properties of WC/Ni-Si hardmetal were analyzed using sintered bodies comprising WC(70-x wt.%), Ni (28.5 wt.%), Si (1.5 wt.%), and $B_4C$ (x wt.%), where $$0{\leq_-}x{\leq_-}1.2$$ wt.%. Samples were prepared by a combination of mechanical milling and liquid-phase sintering. Phase and microstructure characterizations were conducted using X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy, and electron probe X-ray micro analysis. The mechanical properties of the sintered bodies were evaluated by measuring their hardness and transverse rupture strength. The addition of $B_4C$ improved the sinterability of the hardmetals. With increasing $B_4C$ content, their hardness increased, but their transverse rupture strength decreased. The changes of sinterability and mechanical properties were attributed to the alloying reaction between $B_4C$ and the binder metal (Ni, Si).

  • 440A martensitic stainless steels which were modified with reduced carbon content(~0.5%) and addition of small amount of nickel, vanadium, tungsten and molybdenum were manufactured. Effects of alloying elements and tempering temperatures on the uniform corrosion in the solution of lN H2S04 were investigated through the electrochemical polarization test. When tempering temperature is constant, corrosion current density in active-passive transition point, Icorr, decreased a little with an increase of austenitizing temperature. In addition to this, when austenitizing temperature is constant, longer holding time showed a little lower Icorr and Ipass, passive current density. And when austenitized at $1050^{\circ}C$ and tempered in a range of $350{\sim}750^{\circ}C$, best anti-corrosion properties were obtained at $350^{\circ}C$ tempering temperature while worst at $450^{\circ}C$ or $550^{\circ}C$. The specimens tempered at below $450^{\circ}C$ and above $550^{\circ}C$, similar and good anti-corrosion characteristics were obtained regardless of alloying elements added, showing anti-corrosion characteristics are influenced more by tempering temperature than by alloying elements.

  • Production of titanium powder directly from tantalum oxides ($TiO_2$) pellet through an electronically mediated reaction (EMR) by calciothermic reduction has been investigated. Feed material ($TiO_2\;pellet$) and reductant (Ca-Ni alloy) were charged into electronically isolated locations in a molten calcium chloride ($CaCl_2$) bath at $950^{\circ}C$. The current flow through an external circuit between the feed (cathode) and reductant (anode) locations was monitored during the reduction of $TiO_2$. The current approximately 3.2A was measured during the reaction in the external circuit connecting cathode and anode location. After the reduction experiment, pure titanium powder with low nickel content was obtained even though Ca-Ni alloy was used as a reductant. These results demonstrate that titanium powder can be produced without direct physical contact between the feed and reductant. In certain experimental conditions, pure titanium powder with approximately $99.5\;mass\%$ purity was successfully obtained.

  • The electrodeposition of Ni-Co alloy from a sulfamate bath was investigated. The cobalt content in the Ni-Co deposits is more influenced by the temperature or stirring effect than the current density in the process parameters. As cobalt contents in the Ni-Co deposited layer increased from 0 wt.% up to 43 wt.%, hardness value of the layer rised from 400 Hv up to 700 Hv and crystal orientation (111) increased. However, (200) and crystal size significantly reduced. The tensile and yield strength also increased, while the modulus of elasticity showed the maximum value of $10.4N/mm^2$ at 29 wt.%.

  • This study investigated the reaction and variation of fatty acid composition of soybean oil when it is partially hydrogenated until its iodine value(IV) shifts from 134 to 110. Experment was conducted under he outlined reactiion conditions of temperatures(170, 190 and $210^{\circ}C$), pressure(1.3, 2.8 and 4.2atm) and nickel(Ni) catalyst concentraons(0.005, 0.01, 0.05, and 0.1%) with a fixed agitation(350rpm). Further investigation was also made to see the effect of added lecithin on hydrogenation. When reaction temperature was gradually raised and catalyst concentration increased, the content of linolenic acid progressively decreased while the increase amount of stearic acid reduced(P<0.05). On he other hand when pressure gradually increased, the contents of stearic acid and linolenic acid increased(P<0.05). Meanwhile when lecithin was added, reaction time increased by two to six times more than when no addition was made.

  • The microstructure and hardness of (W,Ti)C cemented carbides with a different metallic binder composition of Ni and Co fabricated by powder technology were investigated. The densifications of the prepared materials were accomplished by using vacuum sintering at $1450^{\circ}C$. Nearly full dense (W,Ti)C cemented carbides were obtained with a relative density of up to 99.7% with 30 wt.% Co and 99.9% with 30 wt.% Ni as a metallic binder. The average grain size of the (W,Ti)C-Co and the (W,Ti)C-Ni was decreased by increasing the metallic binder content. The hardness of the dense (W,Ti)C-15 wt%Co and (W,Ti)C-15 wt%Ni, was greater than that of the other related cemented carbides; in addition, the cobalt-based cemented carbides had greater hardness values than the nickel-based cemented carbides.

  • The castability of base metal alloys for dental casting in influenced by burn-out temperature and recent percentage. Burn-out temperatures for casting are set at 200$^{\circ}F$ interval from 1000$^{\circ}F$ to 1800$^{\circ}F$. According to recast metal percent in new cast alloy metal alloys are tested. The results are as followings: 1. In the new alloy(100%), the castability is the most. 2. The burn-out temperature in 1600$\sim$1800$^{\circ}F$, castability of 100% new alloy was more four times than of 50% new alloy plus 50% recast alloy. The using of 50% new alloy and 50% recast alloy, therefore, was unlike in castability. 3. The burn-out temperature in 1600$^{\circ}F$, castability of 100% new alloy was more than four times in soaking 20 minutes, but there was no any difference at 18700$^{\circ}F$. 4. It is investigated that the optimal burn-out temperature is 1600$^{\circ}F$ for the C & B alloy.

  • In the present study, we have studied the bioremediating capability of bacterial strain against six heavy metals. The strain was isolated from river Yamuna, New Delhi which is a very rich repository of bioremediating flora and fauna. The strain was found to be Gram positive as indicated by Gram staining. The strain was characterized using 16s rRNA gene sequencing and the BlastN result showed its close resemblance with the Cellulosimicrobium sp. As each treatment has its own toxicity eliciting expression of different factors, we observed varied growth characteristics of the bacterial isolate and its protein content in response to different heavy metals. The assessment of its bioremediation capability showed that the strain Cellulosimicrobium sp. has potential to consume or sequester the six heavy metals in this study in the following order iron > lead > zinc > cooper > nickel > cadmium. Thus, the strain Cellulosimicrobium sp. isolated in the present study can be a good model system to understand the molecular mechanism behind its bioremediating capabilities under multiple stress conditions.
