  • Recently intensive studies have been focussed on ferrites which have high magnetic loss because of the increasing need for the prevention of EMI (Electromagnetic Interference). We investigated effects of microstructures of Ni-Zn ferrites on magnetic losses, magnetic properties, and behaviors of electromagnetic wave absorbers. The characteristics of the absorber were influenced by the sintering conditions. A Ni-Zn ferrite with the thickness of 7$^{\circ}C$/min and the cooling rate of 7$^{\circ}C$/min. It satisfied the absorbing properties in the wide frequency ranges including VHF (90∼220 MHz), UHF (470∼770 MHz)

  • An integrated inductor using the low temperature cofiring ceramics(LTCC) NiZnAg was fabricated. The inductor has a sandwitch structure, which consists of 18 turns-and-thin Ag rectangular spiral coils in 2-layers(10-turn & 8-turn in each layer). The two layers of Ag coils are among three thick Ni-Zn ferrite so the inductor has a dimension of 12.70mm$\times$12.70mm and 0.32mm thick. For the fabricated inductor, calculation method of inductance was given and it is confirmed that the calculated value is very close to the measured one. Finally as an application of the LTCC integrated inductor for low power electronic circuits, a LTCC boost DC/DC converter with 1W output power and 500KHz switching frequency using the inductor fabricated was developed. For the converter the maximum efficiency of about 87% was obtained.

  • In this paper, the composite damping sheet with electromagnetic wave absorption was developed and studied. The damping sheets with Ni-Zn ferrite, Mn-Zn ferrite and PZT were prepared by mixing, molding and drying. From the characterizing results, the optimal portion of the composite is 1:1:0.1 of Mn-Zn ferrite:Rubber:PZT. The maximum absorption was -30 dB at 860 MHz in the single structure and over -15 dB at 180 MHz and 860 MHz in the two or three layers.

  • $Ni_{0.6}Zn_{0.4}Fe_2O_4$ prepared using solid state reaction and sol-gel methods were compared for their structural and magnetic properties. Due to the much higher annealing temperature used in solid state reaction, the crystalline size was much larger than that of the nanoparticles prepared by sol-gel. The saturation magnetization of sol-gel nanoparticles was higher, and the coercivity was about 2 times larger, compared to the solid state reaction sample. By analyzing the integration intensity of x-ray diffraction peaks (220) and (222), we proposed that the difference in the saturation magnetization might be due to the inversion of cation distribution caused by the different preparation techniques used.

  • The Physical and magnetic properties such as microstructure, permeability and power loss of Ni-Zn ferrite with composition of $Ni_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$, were investigated as the function of $Bi_2O_3$ and CaO contents. The power loss increased in proportion to the amount of $Bi_2O_3$ up to 0.3 wt% but it decreased over than 0.3 wt% addition. The highest permeability of 134 was obtained to the specimen added 1.0 wt% $Bi_2O_3$ since $Bi_2O_3$ contents were strongly dominant to grain growth and size than that of CaO. $Bi_2O_3$ liquid phase created during sintering process promoted sintering and grain growth so that grain size and permeability increased compared to that of the specimens which were sintered with free-additive and CaO. Also, lots of pores existed in the specimen which was added $Bi_2O_3$ wt% with the biggest grain size.

Effects of Solution Concentration on the Structural and Magnetic Properties of Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 Ferrite Nanoparticles Prepared by Sol-gel

  • The $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}Fe_2O_4$ nanoparticles about 30 nm were prepared using sol-gel method with metal nitrates dissolved in 2-methoxyathanol. The concentrations of the metal nitrates are adjusted from 0.1 to 0.75 M in order to study the influence on the structural and magnetic properties. The structure and morphology characterization revealed that the crystallinity was improved and the nanoparticle size was increased with the nutrition solution concentrations up to 0.5 M. Degraded crystallinity together with decreased nanoparticle size were observed for concentration of 0.75 M. The saturation magnetization at room temperature reached maximum at 0.5 M, which can be explained by considering the crystallinity and size effect.

  • In the present study, nano-size powders of ternary ferrites, $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}Fe_2O_4$, as the potential catalysts of $CO_2$decomposition, were prepared by the wet processing of hydrothermal synthesis and coprecipitation method, and the catalyzing effects of impregnation of the noble metals, Pt and Pd, onto $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}Fe_2O_4$for the $CO_2$decomposition were investigated. XRD results of the synthesized ferrites showed a typical spinel structure of ferrite and the particle size was very small as about 6~10 nm. BET surface area of the ternary ferrites was not affected by the impregnation of Pt and Pd. The reactivity of the $CO_2$decomposition to carbon was improved by the impregnation of the noble metals of Pd and Pt. The effect of Pd-impregnation on the $CO_2$decomposition rate was higher than Pt-impregnation.

  • 비화학양론 조성의 니켈-아연 페라이트 소결체 시편에서 투자율과 유전율을 체계적으로 변화 시킴에 따라 전파흡수특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. ${(Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}O)}_{1-x}(Fe_{2}O_{3})_{1+x}$ 시편은 일반적인 세라믹 제조공정에 의해 제조 하였다. 본 연구에서는 니켈-아연 페 라이트에서 ${\alpha}-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ 함량을 변화시킴에 따라 복수투자율과 복소유전율의 조절 방안 을 조사하였다. 철과잉량의 효과는 유전상수 증가였으며 철결핍량의 효과는 ${\mu}_{r}"$ 감소이었다. 니켈-아연 페라이트에서 ${\alpha}-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ 함량 변화에 따라 정합주파수와 정합두께 조절이 가능함을 제시하였다.
