Transformation behavior and reversible shape memory effct of Ti-Ni-Cu alloys with various Cu content has been investigated by means of electrical resistivity measurement, differential scanning calorimetry. X-ray diffraction and strain gage sensor. The transformation sequence in Ti-Ni-Cu alloys substituted by Cu for Ni up to 5at.% occurs to $B2{\leftrightarrow}B19^{\prime}$ and it proceeds in two stages by addition of 10 at.%Cu. i.e. $B2{\leftrightarrow}B19{\leftrightarrow}B19^{\prime}$. But the content of Cu increases up to 20at.%, it has been transformed in one stage ; $B2{\leftrightarrow}B19$. The shape change of Ti-40Ni-10Cu alloy which was constrain aged in circular form bended in $B2{\leftrightarrow}B19$ transformation but it spreaded out in $B19{\leftrightarrow}B19^{\prime}$ transformation. The amount of reversible shape change (${\Delta}{\varepsilon}$) of Ti-47Ni-3Cu alloy constrain aged at $400^{\circ}C$ after solution treatment has a maximum value of about $5.6{\times}10^{-3}$, but that of cold rolled and constrain aged specimens exhibits a little value independent of Cu concentrations.
Since amorphous alloys have been known to have better mechanical and chemical properties than crystalline alloys of the same composition, a great number of studies on the formation of Al-based amorphous alloys have been carried out actively. However, little has been obtained about the effect of Rare-Earth metal and Transition metal addition on amorphous phase formed by melt spinning method. This study included fabrication of amorphous alloy $Al_{85}Ce_5Ni_{10}$ by melt spinning methods and DTA, XRD, TEM analysis to determine crystalization behavoir. Annealing treatments were carried out in Ar atmosphere under isothermal and nonisothermal conditions. The diffraction pattern of non-heated ribbons showed broad form characteristic of glass metallic alloy. The crystallization of amorphous $Al_{85}Ce_5Ni_{10}$ takes place eutedtoidly by homogeneous formation of Al and MS-1, followed by precipitation of the $Al_{11}Ce_3$ and later $MS-1{\rightarrow}Al_3Ni$ transformation.

Corrosion behaviors of Incoloy 800H, KSA(Kaeri Superalloy)-6, Inconel 600 and Hastelloy C-276 in molten salts were investigated in the temperature range of 650 ~ $850^{\circ}C$. Due to $\textrm{Li}_{2}\textrm{O}$-induced basic fluxing mechanism, the corrosion rates of the alloys in mixed molten salt of LiC1-$\textrm{Li}_{2}\textrm{O}$ were significantly higher than those in molten salt of LiCl. In the mixed molten salt, Fe-base alloys showed higher corrosion resistance than the Ni-base alloys. and Hastelloy C-276 with high Mo and W contents exhibited the highest corrosion rate among the examined alloys. The single layer of $\textrm{LiCrO}_{2}$ was formed in molten salt of LiCl and two phase structure of a scale consisted of oxides and Ni was formed in the mixed molten salt.

Super austenitic stainless steels shows the high PRE (Pitting Resistance Equivalent) number and the good corrosion resistance. This work controlled the Co contents in Fe-31Cr-1.7Mo-27Ni-0.25N alloys to elucidate the effect of cobalt contents on the biocompatibility and corrosion resistance. Increasing Co contents, the hardness of the annealed alloys tends to be reduced. In aged alloys, cobalt decreased the increments of hardness by aging treatment. Cobalt decreased the critical pitting temperature (CPT) in 6% $FeCl_3$ + 1% HCl solution, but improved the anodic polarization behavior in Hanks' balanced salt solution and artificial saliva solution. Repassivation rate in artificial body solutions was improved by increasing cobalt contents, but didn't show the linear relationship to PRE number of the alloys. The experimental alloys showed the non-cytotoxicity because of its high corrosion resistance.

We fabricated cube-textured Ni and Ni-W alloy substrates for coated conductors and characterized the effects of W addition on microstructure, mechanical strength, and magnetic properties of the substrate. Pure Ni and Ni-(2, 3, 5at.%)W alloys were prepared by plasma arc melting, heavily cold rolled and then annealed at various temperatures of $600-1300^{\circ}C$. The texture was evaluated by pole-figure and orientation distribution function (ODF) analysis. Mechanical properties were investigated by micro Vickers hardness and tension test. Ferromagnetism of the substrate was measured by physical property measurement system (PPMS). It was observed that Ni-W substrates had sharp cube texture, and the full-width at half-maximums (FWHMs) of in-plane texture was $^{\circ}$-5.57$4.42^{\circ}$, which is better than that of pure Ni substrate. In addition cube texture of Ni-W substrates was retained at higher temperature up to $1300^{\circ}C$. Microstructural observation showed that the Ni-W substrates had fine grain size and higher mechanical properties than the pure Ni substrate. These improvements are probably due to strengthening mechanisms such as solid solution hardening and/or grain size strengthening. PPMS analysis showed that addition of W effectively reduced saturation magnetization in applied magnetic field and Curie temperature.

There are two types of metal hydride electrodes as a negative electrode in a Ni-MH battery, $AB_2$ Zr-based Laves phases and $AB_5$ LM(La-rich mischmetal)-based alloys. The $AB_5$ alloy electrodes have characteristic properties such as a large discharge capacity per volume, easiness in activation, long cycle life and a low cost of alloy. However they have a relatively small discharge capacity per weight. The $AB_2$alloy electrodes have a much higher discharge capacity per weight than $AB_5$ alloy electrodes, however they have some disadvantages of poor activation behavior and cycle life. Therefore, in order to improve the discharge capacity of the $AB_5$ alloy electrode the Zr, Ti and V which are the alloying elements of the $AB_2$ alloys were added to the $LaNi_{3.6}Ai_{0.4}Co_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}$ alloy which was chosen as a $AB_5$ alloy with a high capacity. The addition of Zr, Ti and V to $LaNi_{3.6}Ai_{0.4}Co_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}$ alloy improved the activation to be completed in two cycles. The discharge capacities of Zr 0.02, Ti 0.02 and V 0.1 alloys in $LaNi_{3.6}Ai_{0.4}Co_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}M_y$ (M = Zr, Ti, V) were respectively 346, 348 and 366 mAh/g alloy. The alloy electrodes, Zr 0.02, Ti 0.05 and V 0.1 in $LaNi_{3.6}Ai_{0.4}Co_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}M_y$ (M = Zr, Ti, V), have shown good cycle property after 200 cycles. The rate capability of the $LaNi_{3.6}Ai_{0.4}Co_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}M_y$ (M = Zr, Ti, V) alloy electrodes were very good until 0.6 C rate and the alloys, Zr 0.02, Ti 0.05 and V 0.1, have shown the best result as 92 % at 2.4 C rate. The charge retention property of the $LaNi_{3.6}Ai_{0.4}Co_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}M_y$ (M = Zr, Ti, V) alloys was not good and the alloys with M content from 0.02 to 0.05 showed better charge retention properties.
In this investigation corrosion behavior of newly developed high-pressure die cast Al-Ni (N15) and Al-Ni-Ca (NX1503) alloys was studied in 3.5% NaCl solution. The electrochemical corrosion behavior was evaluated using open circuit potential (OCP) measurement, potentiodynamic polarization, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. Potentiodynamic polarization results validated that NX1503 alloy exhibited lower corrosion current density ($i_{corr}$) value ($5.969{\mu}A/cm^2$) compared to N15 ($7.387{\mu}A/cm^2$). EIS-Bode plots revealed a higher impedance (${\mid}Z{\mid}$) value and maximum phase angle value for NX1503 than N15 alloy. Equivalent circuit curve fitting analysis revealed that surface layer ($R_1$) and charge transfer resistance ($R_{ct}$) values of NX1503 alloy was higher compared to N15 alloy. Immersion corrosion studies were also conducted for alloys using fishing line specimen arrangement to simultaneously measure corrosion rates from weight loss ($P_W$) and hydrogen volume ($P_H$) after 72 hours and NX1503 alloy had lower corrosion rate compared to N15 alloy. The addition of Ca to N15 alloy significantly reduced the Al3Ni intermetallic phase and further grain refinement may be attributed for reduction in the corrosion rate.

The surface segragation of NiZr, CuZr alloy has been studied wi th X-ray Imotoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), Auger electron spectroscopy(AES) and low energy ion scattering(LEIS). The composition of outmost atomic layer has been determinded by the use of LEIS at several incident energies using Ar+ ion. In the LEIS analysis, the effect of charge exchange has been estimated by a novel measurment of the charge exchange parameters while simul taneous determining the relative concentrations of Ni and Zr and the complementary information obtained will be described. The composition of the clean annealed surface, measured with AES only, will be contrasted wi th the surface concentration of the preferentially sputtered surface. The experimental results has been clearly demonstrated that when the NiZr ruld CuZr alloys are exposed to continuous Ar+ ion bombardment the outermost atomic layer is Zr rich due to preferential sputtering of Ni atoms. where Ni is preferentially sputtered, but the difference in sputtering yields is not sufficient to explain the observed composition. Therefore, it is necessary to consider other processes such as Radiation Induced Segregation(RIS). The surface composition of the heated sample surface predicts that Zr should surface segregate which futher supports the view that part of the Zr enrichment is due to RIS.to RIS.

The present study demonstrates the effect of raw powder on the pore structure of porous W-Ni prepared by freeze drying of camphene-based slurries and sintering process. The reduction behavior of $WO_3$ and $WO_3-NiO$ powders is analyzed by a temperature programmed reduction method in Ar-10% H2 atmosphere. After heat treatment in hydrogen atmosphere, $WO_3-NiO$ powder mixture is completely converted to metallic W without any reaction phases. Camphene slurries with oxide powders are frozen at $-30^{\circ}C$, and pores in the frozen specimens are generated by sublimation of the camphene during drying in air. The green bodies are hydrogen-reduced at $800^{\circ}C$ and sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The sintered samples show large and aligned parallel pores to the camphene growth direction, and small pores in the internal wall of large pores. The strut between large pores, prepared from pure $WO_3$ powder, consists of very fine particles with partially necking between the particles. In contrast, the strut densification is clearly observed in the Ni-added W sample due to the enhanced mass transport in activation sintering.

The magnetic properties of a series of both annealed (biaxially textured) and as-rolled (non-textured) Ni-xW alloy tapes with compositions x = 0,1,3, and 5 at.$\%$, were studied. Characterization methods included XRD analyses to investigate the biaxial cube texturing of the annealed Ni-W alloy tapes and studies of the magnetization M for both annealed and as-rolled Ni-W alloy tapes. Both the isothermal mass magnetizations M(H) of a series of samples at different fixed temperatures and M(T) in fixed field, employing a PPMS-9 (Quantum Design), were measured. The Ni-W alloys have shown much reduced ferromagnetism as W-content x increases. Both the saturation magnetization Msat and Curie temperature Tc decrease linearly with W-content x, and both Msat and Tc go to zero at critical concentration of Xc - 9.50 at. $\%$ W.
