Enhancement of Wear Resistance of CoCrNiAlTi Plasma Sprayed Coatings Using Titanium Carbide

  • Large drill bits may face high hardness ore and high working pressure when working. To optimize the use effect of large drill bits and prolong the use time, it is necessary to add a layer of pressure-resistant, wear-resistant, and low-friction coating on the surface of the drill bit. In this study, CoCrNiAlTi high-entropy alloy coatings and CoCrNiAlTi (70 wt%)-TiC (30 wt%) composite coatings are successfully prepared on Q235 steel by plasma spraying. The CoCrNiAlTi (70 wt%)-TiC (30 wt%) coating consists of FCC solid solution and a small amount of TiC phase. The effect of TiC on the composition phase, microhardness, and elastic modulus of HEA coating is studied by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and microhardness tester. The effect of TiC on the friction and wear properties of HEA coatings is investigated using a wear tester. By improving the process parameters, the metallurgical bonding between the coating and the substrate is well combined, and a coating without pores and cracks is obtained. The experimental results confirm that the microhardness, elastic modulus, and wear resistance of CoCrNiAlTi-TiC composite coating are better, and the friction coefficient is lower.

  • Extensive work has been done on investigating the inner cell pressure characteristics of sealed type Ni-MH battery in which Zr-Ti-Mn-V-Ni alloy is used as anode. The inner cell pressure of this type Ni-MH battery much more increases with the charge/discharge cycling than that of the other type Ni-MH battery where commercialized $AB_5$ type alloy is used as anode. The increase of inner cell pressure in the sealed type Ni/MH battery using Zr-Ti-Mn-V-Ni alloy system is mainly due to the accumulation of oxygen gas during charge/discharge cycling. The accumulation of oxygen gas arises mainly due to the low rate of oxygen recombination on the MH electrode surface during charge/discharge cycling. The difference of oxygen recombination rate between $AB_5$ type electrode and Zr-Ti-Mn-V-Ni electrode is caused by the difference of electrode reaction surface area resulting from different particle size after their activation and the difference of surface catalytic activity for oxygen recombination reaction, respectively. After EIS analysis, it is identified that the surface catalytic activity affects much more dominantly on the oxygen recombination reaction than the reaction surface area does. In order to suppress the inner cell pressure of Ni-MH battery where Zr-Ti-Mn-V-Ni is used as anode, it is suggested that the surface catalytic activity for oxygen recombination should be improved.

비정질 $Ti_{50}-Ni_{30}-Cu_{20}$ 리본의 결정화 열처리와 형상기억특성 변화 (Shape Memory Characteristics and Crystallization Annealing of Amorphous $Ti_{50}-Ni_{30}-Cu_{20}$ Ribbons)

  • Ti-Ni-Cu alloys are very attractive shape memory alloys for applications as actuators because of a large transformation elongation and a small transformation hysteresis. Rapidly solidified Ti-Ni alloy ribbons have been known to have the shape memory effect and superelasticity superior to the alloy ingots fabricated by conventional casting. In this study, solidification structures and shape memory characteristics of $Ti-Ni_{30}-Cu_{20}$ alloy ribbons prepared by melt spinning were investigated by means of DSC and XRD. Operating parameters to fabricate the amorphous ribbons were the wheel velocity of 55 m/s and the melt spinning temperature of $1500^{\circ}C$. The crystallization temperature was measured to be $440^{\circ}C$. The crystallized ribbons exhibited very fine microstructure after annealing at $440^{\circ}C$ for 10 minutes and $460^{\circ}C$ for 5 minutes and was deformed up to about 6.8% and 6.23% in ductile manner, respectively. Stress-strain curve of the ribbon exhibited a flat stress-plateau at 64 MPa and this is associated with the stress-induced a B2-B19 martensitic transformation. During cycle deformation with the applied stress of 220 MPa, transformation hysteresis and elongation associated with the B2-B19 transformation were observed to be $4.3^{\circ}C$ and 3.6%.

  • 본 실험에서는 Ti를 기반으로 한 평판 수소 분리막을 설계하여 제조하였다. 새로운 조성의 Ti를 베이스로 한 수소 분리막을 찾기 위하여 여러 합금들의 물리화학적 특성과 수소투과도 사이의 상관관계에 대해 조사하였다. 이를 바탕으로 신조성의 합금막 2종(Ti14.2Zr66.4Ni12.6Cu6.8 (70 ㎛), Ti17.3Zr62.7Ni20 (80 ㎛))을 설계 및 제조하였다. 제조된 평판 수소 분리막은 300~500℃, 1~4 bar의 조건에서 혼합 가스(H2, N2), sweep 가스(Ar)를 이용하여 수소 투과 실험을 진행하였다. Ti14.2Zr66.4Ni12.6Cu6.8 합금막은 500℃, 4bar에서 최대 16.35 mL/cm2 min의 flux를 가지며, Ti17.3Zr62.7Ni20 합금막은 450℃, 4 bar에서 최대 10.28 mL/cm2 min의 flux를 가진다.

  • Ti-Ni-Cu alloy powders were fabricated by ball milling, and the properties of these powders were characterized. Mixed 50Ti-(50-x)Ni-xCu powders of 5 to 10at.%Cu composition were milled for 100 hours using SUS 1/4" balls in argon atmosphere. Ball to powder ratio was 20:1 and rotating speed was 100 rpm. Tensile strength, microstructure and phase transformation of ball milled Ti-(50-x)Ni-xCu powders were studied. After 100 hours milling, Ti, Ni and Cu elements were alloyed completely and an amorphous phase was formed. Amorphous phase was crystallized to martensite(B 19') and austenite(B2) after heat treatment for 1 hour at $850^{\circ}C$. As the Cu contents were increased, tensile strength of extruded 6061Al/TiNiCu was decreased, and B19'martensite phases In the TiNi particles were the causes of high tensile stress of extruded 6061Al/TiNiCu.NiCu.

  • A study of the shear bond strength between dental porcelain and alloy on Ti depostion effect was conducted by Instron universal testing machine. The obtained result was as follows ; The shear bond strengths of Ti-depostion group and acid-etched group were statistically significantly greater than that of untreated control group (p<0.01)

  • Transformation behavior and reversible shape memory effct of Ti-Ni-Cu alloys with various Cu content has been investigated by means of electrical resistivity measurement, differential scanning calorimetry. X-ray diffraction and strain gage sensor. The transformation sequence in Ti-Ni-Cu alloys substituted by Cu for Ni up to 5at.% occurs to $B2{\leftrightarrow}B19^{\prime}$ and it proceeds in two stages by addition of 10 at.%Cu. i.e. $B2{\leftrightarrow}B19{\leftrightarrow}B19^{\prime}$. But the content of Cu increases up to 20at.%, it has been transformed in one stage ; $B2{\leftrightarrow}B19$. The shape change of Ti-40Ni-10Cu alloy which was constrain aged in circular form bended in $B2{\leftrightarrow}B19$ transformation but it spreaded out in $B19{\leftrightarrow}B19^{\prime}$ transformation. The amount of reversible shape change (${\Delta}{\varepsilon}$) of Ti-47Ni-3Cu alloy constrain aged at $400^{\circ}C$ after solution treatment has a maximum value of about $5.6{\times}10^{-3}$, but that of cold rolled and constrain aged specimens exhibits a little value independent of Cu concentrations.

  • Amorphous $MgNi_{1-x}Ti_x$ alloys with the composition of x=0.02, 0.03, 0.05 and 0.07 were synthesized by mechanical alloying. The synthesized alloys were investigated by electrochemical test, XRD and SEM. As increasing Ti concentration, the initial discharge capacity was raised more than that of nanocrystalline Mg-Ni 289 mAh/g, but the electrodes were degraded faster. Comparing to other synthesized alloys, $MgNi_{0.95}Ti_{0.05}$ alloy showed the highest initial discharged capacity 474 mAh/g and maintained $54\%$ of the initial capacity after 10 cycles.
