  • In this work we study the effects of different factors of dislocation loop on its obstacle strength when interacting with an edge dislocation. At first, the interaction model for dislocation and dislocation loop is established and the full and partial absorption mechanism is obtained. Then, the effect of temperature, size and burgers vector of dislocation loop are investigated. The relation between the obstacle strength and irradiation dose has been established, which bridges the irradiation source and microscale properties. Except that, the obstacle strength of C, Cr, Ni, Mn, Mo and P decorated dislocation loop is studied. Results show that the obstacle strength for dislocation loop decorated by alloy element decreases in the sequence of Cr, Ni, Mn, C, P and Mo, which could be used to help parameterize and validate crystal plasticity finite element model and therein integrated constitutive laws to enable accounting for irradiation-induced chemical segregation effects.

  • Outer diameter stress corrosion cracking (ODSCC) has occurred for Alloy 600 (Ni 75 wt%, Cr 15 wt%, Fe 10 wt%) as a heat exchanger tube of the steam generator (SG) in nuclear power plants (NPP) during long term operation. Among many causes for SCC, lead (Pb) is known to be one of the most deleterious species in the secondary system. In the present work, the oxide formed on Alloy 600 was characterized as a function of the PbO content in 0.1 M NaOH at $315^{\circ}C$ by using an electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), a transmission electron microscopy (TEM), equipped with an energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The oxide property was analyzed in view of SCC susceptibility.

  • 7XXX aluminum alloy powders produced by the self-manufactured rotating disc atomizer were investigated to determine the influence of the atomization parameters on the particle size distributions in air atmosphere. The particle size distributions are almost always bimodal with the dominant mode on the large particle size. Average powder size of 7XXX aluminum alloy is $74/{\mu}m~125/{\mu}m$ when melt is poured with the rate of 9g /sec at 730$^{\circ}C$ on a rotating disc of 30㎜ diameter at 6300rad/sec. The mass of finer particle increased when disc diameter, angular velocity, pouring temperature increased and pouring rate decreased. The powder shapes of bimodal change from acicular to tear-drop and from tear-drop to ligament with increasing powder size. Powder shape was determined by the atomization mechanism and oxidation in liquid state. Microstructure of powders appeared to be cell and cellular dendrite. The SDAS of Al-7.9wt%Zn-2.4wt%Mg-1.5wt%Cu-0.9wt%Ni Powders is $0.8{\mu}m~1.0{\mu}m$ for the powders of $size+44{\mu}m~53{\mu}m$ and $1.6{\mu}m∼1.8{\mu}m$ for the powders of $size+105{\mu}m~125{\mu}m$, repectively.

  • The films with ferromagnetic fine particles dispersed in nonmagnetic matrix, such as $Fe-Al_2O_3$ and Fe-Cu have been studied for use of magnetic recording medium, optically device and sensor. Their magnetic properties depend strongly on structural parameter such as size and volume fraction of ferromagnetic particles. Fe-Cr-Ni alloy sputtered films also have microstructure with ferromagnetic -- b.c.c phase and nonmagnetic f.c.c phase grains. Magnetic properties of these films depend strongly on such a unique structure. These are depend on the ratio in volume of ferromagnetic particles to nonmagnetic ones $V_F/V_N$, the saturation magnetization Ms increased with increase of $V_F/V_N$. The coercivity Hc of the as-deposited films took maximum value of about 200 Oe at adequate $V_F/V_N$ and then Ms and Squareness S were 500 emu/cc and 0.5, respectively.(omitted)

  • Lattice structure, hydrogen absorption characteristics, discharge capacity and cycle life of $V_{22}Ti_{16}Zr_{16}Ni_{39}X_7$(X= Cr, Co, Fe, Mn, Al) alloys were investigated. The matrix phases of these alloys were the C14 Laves phase. Chromium-containing alloy had a vanadium-rich phase in addition to the Laves phase. The chromium, maganese, or aluminum-containing alloys had lower hydrogen equilibrium pressure and larger hydrogen absorption content than the cobalt or iron-containing alloys. The discharge capacities of these alloys were 270~330mAh/g. The discharge capacity according to the alloying element X decreased in the order of Mn>Cr>Co, Al)Fe. The charge/discharge cycle lives of the chromium, cobalt or iron-containing alloys were longer than those of maganese or aluminum-containing alloys due to the lower vanadium dissolution rate.

  • Pure copper is widely used for base material for electrical and electronic parts because of its good electrical conductivity. However, it has such a low strength that various alloying elements are added to copper to increase its strength. Nevertheless, alloying elements which exist as solid solution elements in copper matrix severely reduce the electrical conductivity. The reduction of electrical conductivity can be minimized and the strengthening can be maximized by TMT(Thermo-Mechanical Treatment) in copper alloys. In this research, the effects of TMT on mechanical and electrical properties of Cu-Ni-Al-Si-P, Cu-Ni-Al-Si-P-Zr and Cu-Ni-Si-P-Ti alloys aged at various temperatures were investigated. The Cu alloy with Ti showed the hardness of Hv 225, electrical conductivity of 59.8%IACS, tensile strength of 572MPa and elongation of 6.4%.

  • The effect of cold rolling on the microstructural evolution in 22Cr-0.2N micro-duplex stainless steel was investigated. The 22Cr-xNi-yMn-0.2N duplex stainless steel plates with various Ni and Mn contents were fabricated. The steels were vacuum induction melted and hot rolled, followed by annealing treatment at the temperature range of $1000-1100^{\circ}C$, in which both the austenite and ferrite phases were stable. The volume fraction of the ferrite phase depending on the alloy compositions of Ni and Mn increased with an increase in the annealing temperature. Grain growth in the ferrite phase occurred markedly after cold rolling followed by annealing, while fine recrystallised grains were still found in the austenite phase. A large number of martensite laths was found in the microstructure of cold rolled steels, which should be formed by strain-induced martensite from the austenite phase. The intersections of stacking faults were revealed by TEM observation. The volume fraction of the martensite phase increased with an increase of the reduction ratio by cold rolling.

  • The amorphization process and the thermal properties of amorphous Ti$_{40}$Cu$_{40}$Ni$_{10}$Al$_{10}$ powder during milling by mechanical alloying were examined by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The chemical composition of the samples was examined by an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX) facility attached to the scanning electron microscope (SEM). The as-milled powders showed a broad peak (2$\theta$ = 42.4$^{\circ}$) with crystalline size of about 5.0 nm in the XRD patterns. The entire milling process could be divided into three different stages: agglomeration (0 < t$_m$ $\leq$ 3 h), disintegration (3 h < t$_m$ $\leq$ 20 h), and homogenization (20 h < t$_m$ $\leq$ 40 h) (t$_m$: milling time). In the DSC experiment, the peak temperature T$_p$ and crystallization temperature T$_x$ were 466.9$^{\circ}C$ and 444.3$^{\circ}C$, respectively, and the values of T$_p$, and T$_x$ increased with a heating rate (HR). The activation energies of crystallization for the as-milled powder was 291.5 kJ/mol for T$_p$.

  • For the development of superconducting fault current limiters (SFCLs), fault current limiting elements were fabricated out of Bi-2212 bulk tubes and tested. The SFCL elements consisted of tube shaped Bi-2212 bulks and metal shunts for the stabilizers. Firstly, the Bi-2212 bulk tubes were processed based on a design of monofilar coils in order to acquire large resistance and high voltage rating. 300 mm-long Bi-2212 tubes were designed to have the current path of 410 cm in length with 24 turns and 41 mm in diameter. The processed monofilar coil, as designed, had 300 A $I_c$ at 77 K. The fabricated superconducting monofilar coils were affixed to Cu-Ni alloy as that of stabilizers. The Cu-Ni alloys were processed to have the same shape of the superconducting monofilar coils. The Cu-Ni coil had resistivity of 32 ${\mu}{\Omega}$-cm at 77 K and 37 ${\mu}{\Omega}$-cm at 300 K. The metal shunts were attached to the outside of the Bi-2212 monofilar coil by a soldering technique. After the terminals made of copper were attached to both ends of the superconductor-metal shunt composite, the gap between the turns and the surface of the elements was filled with an epoxy and a dense mesh made of FRP in order to enhance the mechanical strength. The completed SFCL elements went through fault tests, and we confirmed that the voltage rating of 143 $V_{rms}$ (E =0.35 $V_{rms}$/cm) could be accomplished.

  • $Zn(BH_4)_2$ was prepared by milling $ZnCl_2$ and $NaBH_4$ in a planetary ball mill in an Ar atmosphere, and XRD analysis, SEM observation, FT-IR analysis, DTA, and TGA were performed for synthesized $Zn(BH_4)_2$ samples. 90 wt% $MgH_2$+1.67 wt% $Zn(BH_4)_2(+NaCl)$+5 wt% Ni+1.67 wt% Ti+1.67 wt% Fe (named $90MgH_2+1.67Zn(BH_4)_2(+NaCl)$+5Ni+1.67Ti+1.67Fe) samples were also prepared by milling in a planetary ball mill in an $H_2$ atmosphere. The gas absorption and release properties of the $Zn(BH_4)_2(+NaCl)$ and $90MgH_2+1.67Zn(BH_4)_2(+NaCl)_2(+NaCl)$+5Ni+1.67Ti+1.67Fe samples were investigated. An FT-IR analysis showed that $Zn(BH_4)_2$ formed in the $Zn(BH_4)_2(+NaCl)$ samples prepared by milling $ZnCl_2$ and $NaBH_4$. At the first cycle at $320^{\circ}C$, $90MgH_2+1.67Zn(BH_4)_2(+NaCl)$+5Ni+1.67Ti+1.67Fe absorbed 2.95 wt% H for 2.5 min and 4.93 wt% H for 60 min under 12 bar $H_2$, and released 1.46 wt% H for 10 min and 4.57 wt% H for 60 min under 1.0 bar $H_2$.
